Sophie Cooper, the family nutritionist, had prepared breakfast early but was waiting for Christine to come downstairs. As it got close to 10 AM with no sign of Christine, Sophie decided to check upstairs, worried that Christine might be unwell.
When she reached the second floor, she found Christine's bedroom door closed. After knocking with no response, she noticed that Adrian's adjacent room door was slightly ajar, with cool air from the conditioner seeping through the gap.
Though Sophie had never entered her boss's room before, and knew she should only attend to Christine, an odd feeling made her hesitate briefly before pushing open Adrian's door.
The room was pitch dark, with the lights off and curtains drawn tight. Christine lay in bed, unclothed and asleep, with only a thin blanket covering her body.
