A loud crash outside the office shattered the moment.
All three of them turned toward the door as the sound of running footsteps echoed through the hall.
Elias was the first to move. He pulled the door open just in time to see a figure disappearing around the corner.
"Stay here!" he barked over his shoulder before taking off after them.
Lena wasn't listening.
She was already right behind him.
Lena's POV
Her heart pounded as she sprinted through the hall, Elias just ahead of her.
Whoever it was, they knew.
They knew she and Elias were getting too close.
And they weren't sticking around to be caught.
Elias turned the corner sharply, and Lena followed, her breath coming fast.
They reached the stairwell just in time to hear the echo of footsteps rushing downward.
Elias didn't hesitate, he bolted down the stairs, skipping two at a time.
Lena pushed herself to keep up, her pulse racing.
