The streets were unusually still, with only the soft hum of Evander's car cutting through the chilly night. City lights streaked across the windshield as Evander tightened his grip on the wheel, frustration etched on his face.

Two nights. It had been two excruciatingly long nights since Delphinia had last been home, and it was driving him to the edge of his sanity.

His phone rested on the seat beside him, Hugo's detailed report glowing on the screen. He'd had to push this confrontation to the evening thanks to an important meeting that Hugo insisted he attend. Something about losing a billion-dollar deal if he didn't show up. But none of that mattered now. Not the deal, not the endless calls he'd made to Delphinia that went unanswered. What mattered was finding her and bringing her home.
