Evander woke up to an empty space beside him, just as it had been when he'd gone to bed the night before. He stared at the neatly made side of the bed, the sheets smooth and untouched. A frown tugged at the corners of his mouth.
What time had Delphinia come home last night? Did she even come home? The idea that she might have stayed with Ashton—or worse, with somewhere else—crossed his mind. He let out a low chuckle, shaking his head.
"Ran off to Ashton again, did you?" he muttered under his breath, his voice laced with sarcasm.
But the thought didn't sit well with him. For some reason, it made his chest tighten uncomfortably. Pushing the feeling aside, Evander swung his legs over the edge of the bed and stood up. Every move he made was measured, his mind already ticking through the day ahead as he prepared for the morning.
