Delphinia's gaze darted between Evander and the little boy, Ashton, who was seated directly across from her. The soft sound of silverware tapping against plates echoed through the big dining room, but Evander's cool, relaxed attitude seemed to hush everything else around her. He ate slowly and carefully. He didn't even acknowledge for a second that he'd just dropped a huge bombshell on her.
Meanwhile, Delphinia sat tense in her chair, totally uninterested in the food, even though it was presented so well. Her fork hovered above the delicate slices of grilled fish, but instead of focusing on the meal, her mind buzzed like an alarm.
