Chapter 24 - ch24

Where there are people, there is a martial arts world. The martial arts world is not just about fighting and killing, but about human relationships and social skills. The same holds true for the ninja world.

What do people strive for all their lives?

Of course, it's money!

Even ninjas end up fighting for wealth and the promise of a prosperous life.

The current dilemma for Konoha, beyond personnel issues, boils down to one word: money.

But where there is money, there will be people. With sufficient funds, one ninja village fighting against four others is feasible. It's all about who can endure the longest.

If resources were ample, one could wield dozens or hundreds of explosive tags, casually tossing them in battle. How comfortable life would be.

Unfortunately, such extravagant ideas are unrealistic.

Uchiha Nan leaned back in his chair, the table before him laden with a variety of delectable dishes. This was the most luxurious hotel in Konoha, reserved for hosting important Uchiha guests.

The meal, along with the venue, cost a hefty 30,000 ryo, causing Nan to smirk.

For an ordinary A-level mission, Nan could earn hundreds of thousands of ryo, but spending this on a single meal was painful.

Dining like this daily would bankrupt him. Thankfully, this was a family expense, not his personal burden. After all, it was Uchiha business.

"The guest arriving soon is named Fujii Hiroki. His family, the Fujii Family, has contracted the large iron mine in the Land of Fire and has been a long-time partner with Uchiha."

"They have family members in high-ranking positions in the Land of Fire."

"He's got a good temperament. I've maintained a positive relationship with him," Uchiha Tomita explained, detailing Fujii Hiroki's background and preferences, offering Nan guidance on handling such influential figures.

Dealing with powerful families in the Land of Fire isn't as straightforward as being a ninja.

For a ninja, it's about combat. For a clan leader, it's about numerous considerations.

With Nan having awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, he's seen as Uchiha's future. Tomita was committed to imparting his leadership experience to Nan without reservation.

Tomita accompanied Nan this time due to the significant debt owed to the Fujii family. He anticipated a challenging discussion at the dinner table.

Tomita feared Nan, in his youth and strength, might impulsively resort to violence against Hiroki. The memory of Nan using dissolution jutsu in a crowd lingered.

Clearly, Nan had a temper, and his past behavior was not always predictable.

If he killed someone in anger, it would be disastrous. Failing to settle a debt and killing the creditor would incite the nobles of the Land of Fire to unite against the Uchiha family business.

Such behavior couldn't be tolerated. The Fire Country's dignitaries feared setting a dangerous precedent.

To finance the war, ninja families across the five great villages had accrued significant debts. If Uchiha set an example of killing creditors, other countries' nobles would be in peril.

If Uchiha acted recklessly, the daimyos might unite to demonstrate money's power, issuing bounties like raindrops, making Uchiha fugitives.

No matter how strong Uchiha is, it's still just a ninja family.

Nan listened attentively to Tomita's teachings. It was clear Tomita was genuinely instructing him on being a competent clan leader, sharing insights into the Land of Fire's aristocracy.

It's knowledge beyond the reach of lower-level ninjas focused solely on combat.

Suddenly, the door creaked open, and a middle-aged man of rounded, slightly corpulent figure entered. His attire was bright and elegant, indicative of wealth or nobility.

"Tomita, long time no see!"

"Long time no see!" Tomita responded, greeting him briefly before introducing Uchiha Nan, the new Uchiha clan leader, to Fujii Hiroki.

Fujii Hiroki's expression changed slightly before he smiled and introduced himself to Nan.

Nan eagerly engaged in conversation. In his previous life, Nan had been a salesperson, making this scenario familiar.

In his past life, he honed combat skills and studied efficient methods of fighting.

But now, his professional qualities emerged naturally. Wasn't this just about pleasing a client?

Uchiha Nan was well-versed!

Once at the table, Nan could skillfully ensure you felt at ease.

Tomita, drinking alongside him, watched Nan with wide eyes, impressed by his adeptness.

Flattery flowed, with persuasive words that Fujii Hiroki had never heard, leading to one cup after another. It seemed Tomita's presence was almost redundant.

In the midst, Fujii Hiroki brought up the debt. Nan immediately began lamenting the family's hardships, spinning tales that even Tomita found far-fetched.

Regarding the debt, Nan promised repayment as soon as funds arrived, principal and interest included.

Fujii Hiroki had little choice but to accept.

Then, the drinking resumed, two against one, with Nan's client-pleasing skills, interspersed with light banter and topics men enjoy, leading Hiroki to drunkenly call them brothers.

My brother is in trouble, can you help me?

"What are you talking about? Don't worry. Forget the debt. I've made the decision—hiccup, hiccup."

"Brother, I have influence in the family. I'll continue supplying Uchiha for another month."

"."

"What a great brother!"

"Brother, another drink for you!"

"."

Establish written evidence!

Quickly draft a document!

Tomita promptly requested paper and pen from a waiter, securing the agreement before Hiroki sobered up and denied it.

While Uchiha Nan enjoyed a meal with a major client, Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzo wandered Konoha's streets.

Having narrowly escaped the battlefield and been unnerved by Uzumaki Mito, Hiruzen and Danzo decided to gather, share a meal, and discuss Konoha's future.

When Danzo heard Mito would support Hiruzen as Hokage, his anxiety diminished, replaced by joy tinged with sadness.

He couldn't help but recall past events. If he'd been the first to stand and risk his life, would he be the Third Hokage?

Joy and regret filled his heart.

Fearing both his brother's suffering and his success, Danzo embodied this duality. Initially worried for Hiruzen, now his friend's rise made him uneasy.

A companion, once his equal, was set to lead the village, a notion more unsettling than anything for Danzo Shimura.

Yet, Danzo remained overly optimistic, ignoring the villagers' disdainful glances as they passed.
