Chereads / The Rise of the Son of the God of Darkness / Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Tavern

Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Tavern

Once inside, they saw a pretty nice interior. Under the staircase to the second floor sat an employee or owner of the tavern. He would be the one to ask for drinks and other food, as well as for rooms in the tavern.

At the tables sat the adventurers who were drinking. It was very noisy, which pissed Quintus off:

- Hey! Guys, shut up. - said Quintus.

Hearing the demand of "some guy over there" a very muscular man stood up and shouted:

- Who are you telling to shut up?! Your mom? - The man shouted.

Quintus was pissed off by his tone, he didn't care what they said about his mother, she was a bitch.

- To all of you, and especially to you. Speak to me as "you" if you don't want to lose your head, asshole! - Quintus shouted, stopping.

Realizing that a fight was about to break out, Rupert tried to calm his master:

- Mr. Quint, maybe don't? - Rupert said.

- That boy needs to be taught a lesson. - replied Quintus.

Rupert moved farther away so that he wouldn't get hit during their fight.

- Who's a boy? You're obviously younger than me!" the man shouted.

- Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! - Quintus laughed.

The adventurer was pissed off by Quintus' attitude towards him, so he slowly strode to his sides, kneading his fists.

- Beg for mercy. - said the adventurer.

Quintus remained silent, but smiled fearfully.

- So that's it then...? - The adventurer asked.

- Well at least something, yes you understand. Amazing. - Quintus said, mocking the adventurer.

- If you don't want to do it the right way, you'll do it the wrong way. I don't like beating people to death, but you pissed me off too much! - shouted the adventurer and ran at Quintus.

Quintus continued to stand still.

The adventurer swung when he was very close, but at the last moment Quintus raised his arm and was able to stop the adventurer's onslaught.

He tried to get out of Quintus' grasp, but when he looked up he saw his fist flying right into his face.

Bydyshch!

Quintus successfully hit the adventurer, it was so hard that he fell to the floor and lost consciousness.

Seeing this, the other adventurers looked at Quintus and turned away to avoid crossing their gazes with him.

- You weakling. - Quintus said and spat on the lying adventurer. - Even some assassin out there is stronger than you. - Quintus didn't say, just thought about it.

Turning back to Rupert, he walked towards him. When he reached, he heard the man say something in a whisper:

- Wow... There's a reason I decided to serve him... He's so... so... so amazing!

Quintus took that as praise and when he reached over he fidgeted in Rupert's hair.

It was a rarity for him, it wasn't often he didn't feel arrogance towards people.

The man realized he was the coolest and decided to serve him. Before that, to get at least some kind of obedience from other people, you had to threaten them.

At that moment, a brilliant idea popped into Quintus' head:

- What if you develop your empire and bind everyone to it, with the help of faith in the great me...? Sounds like genius. Yes, that's what I'll do. - Quintus decided.

- Mr. Quintus stroked me. Aah! - he shouted to himself like a little girl.

The expression on Rupert's face changed in a rather strange way. His pupils lifted, his mouth opened. It looked very scary, so scary that it frightened even Quintus.

- Anyway, let's move on. - Quintus said.

- Oh, oh, right. - muttered Rupert. - Follow me, Mr. Quintus.

Rupert went to the man who was under the stairs.

There was a counter, signs with prices for different food, beer, and the price for 1 room for 1 night.

1 night cost 15 bronze coins.

- We need 2 rooms. That's 30 bronze coins. Is that a lot or a little? - Quintus thought.

At that moment Rupert came up to the man and said, 1 room for 7 nights.

Hearing this, Quintus walked up to him:

- What 1 room?! Take 2! - Quint said in Rupert's ear so loudly that even the man behind the counter heard it.

- Mr. Quintus, 210 bronze coins is not a pleasant sum. It's about half the salary of a common cook. And as I think you know, cooks are a very lucrative job in the Empire, especially in the capital. - Rupert said, trying to reassure his master.

- It's like I give a shit. I'm not going to live in 1 room with you! Take 2 rooms! - replied Quintus.

- Okay, Mr. Quintus. - Rupert replied, resignedly.

Quint turned away while Rupert negotiated:

- 2 rooms for 7 nights.

- 210 bronze coins.

- Can we pay in gold?

When they heard that Rupert had "gold coins" they all looked at him. The adventurers looked at him with a smirk, after all:

- If it wasn't for that guy being strong, you could rob that guy.

- Mind your own business. - said Quintus, looking at the adventurers. After that, everyone stopped looking in their direction.

- Yes, in gold coins. Then you owe me two gold coins. - said the man.

- Okay. - Rupert answered, taking the money out of his wallet.

When the payment was taking place, Quintus was bored. It seemed like only a couple of seconds, but to him it was an eternity.

After paying, Rupert took the keys to the rooms and handed one key to Quint.

- 2nd floor, rooms 4 and 5. - Rupert said.

They went to the stairs and went up to the 2nd floor of the tavern.

Quint got room 4 and Rupert got room 5. Quintus walked in and saw a small room with only a bed, a nightstand, a small window, and an old rug on the floor.

Quintus didn't want to sleep, but Rupert's words pissed him off.

- "We'll spend about half of some cook's salary here in a week." Pissed off... Wait... What if, if we don't have money, we don't have food. Then... I'll starve and eat only those canned foods! - Rupert thought. - Something must be done...
