Chapter 13 - Chapter 7 part 2

It seemed that only the official operators knew who had bought the [Nine-tailed Fox] card, since players could mark up prices by pressing a certain button in their seats, which was a way to protect players' privacy.

The commodity prices in the game seemed to be very high. A pet card could be sold for 800 gold coins? That was equivalent to a month's rent for him.

Xie Mingzhe was curious about why the [Nine-tailed Fox] card could be sold for 800 gold coins, while the [Flower Monster] card was priced at only 300 gold coins. Was there a significant difference between them? Thinking about this, Xie Mingzhe leaned over to senior brother Qi and whispered, "Why is the [Nine-tailed Fox] card priced so high? Its base attributes are ordinary, and it has no attack skills."

"Because it's an original card created by players. Such cards don't drop after killing mobs or clearing instances. The creator holds the copyright and has the right to retain or sell it. The [Nine-tailed Fox] card is expensive because it's made by a well-known pet card designer in the game, Sister Man. She produces dozens of these [Nine-tailed Fox] cards each month. Girls love to keep fluffy pets like this, so some are willing to buy it at a high price," senior brother Qi explained quietly.

It suddenly dawned on Xie Mingzhe that the [Flower Monster] card was sold at a low price because players could obtain it by killing bosses in the game. However, the [Nine-tailed Fox] card was special—it was created by players, and bosses wouldn't drop it. Sister Man had the copyright, so she decided when to sell it. Selling dozens of cards each month for 800 gold coins each, Sister Man must have made a fortune.

Xie Mingzhe couldn't help but admire her for running such a successful business.

After those cards were sold, the beautiful auctioneer smiled mysteriously and announced, "Now, for the highlight of today's auction: the extremely precious seven-star card will be auctioned next!"

As she spoke, an emcee stepped onto the stage with a delicate box and slowly opened it under the spotlight.

Inside, a black card lay quietly in the velvet box.

Its pure black back shone with a faint metallic gloss, and there was a green pattern on it.

Thinking about his two-star cards with plain blue backs, Xie Mingzhe realized how dull they seemed in comparison. The green pattern on the back of this seven-star black card was both gorgeous and exquisite. The design, made of green threads, spread and stretched across the black card in a way that looked almost sculpted—masterfully done with a strong three-dimensional effect.

Just from the delicate back of this card, even Xie Mingzhe, a layman, could tell that it was valuable.

He observed the card carefully and noticed that in the lower right-hand corner of its back was a small character—"Tang."

When the camera focused on the character "Tang," Xie Mingzhe heard a girl sitting behind him suddenly scream, "Oh my god, it's the work of the legendary Tang, isn't it?"

"Aha, it must be the work of my Prince Charming! Only he would use this logo, and no one else dares to copy it!"

An older man in the front chimed in, "Oh my gosh! The grapevine news was right—there really is a Tang Muzhou card in today's auction?"

"Why would Tang's card be auctioned?" someone else asked.

The whispers around Xie Mingzhe grew louder, spreading like ripples across a peaceful lake, soon becoming a sea of noise.

Who was Tang Muzhou? Was he really that influential?

The auctioneer took a microphone and called for order, "Everyone, please quiet down!"

After repeating this three times, the excited crowd settled. The auctioneer continued, "This seven-star card was created by the legendary Tang Muzhou!" She carefully flipped the black card over and said, "Please take a look at the data on the card."

On the electronic screen, Xie Mingzhe clearly saw the front of the card.

On the front, a cluster of blooming white flowers appeared, each one exquisitely detailed. Some even had crystal-like dewdrops. The flowers, white as jade, were layered on top of one another, so lifelike they seemed to emit a fragrance.

Tuberose (Wood)

The audience erupted into cheers when they saw the card's data.

Xie Mingzhe overheard an excited conversation behind him, "100,000 Health and 50,000 Attack—totals to 150,000 HP! This is almost a tank!"

"A card with 100 Agility can unleash AOE attacks at lightning speed. Plus, its two skills, illusions and blindness, are powerful controls. What a formidable card!"

"I remember that Tang used this card in the league!"

"Why is he selling such a great card?"

"Has he created an even better one?"

Seeing the crowd's excitement, the host smiled, "Seven-star [Tuberose], an AOE control card, is now up for bidding! Starting price: 100,000 gold!"

Xie Mingzhe was stunned. "What??"

Were the rich in this world all insane?

100,000 gold coins—equivalent to 10,000 crystal coins in the real world—was enough for his living expenses for an entire year!

And it was just a card! Who would be foolish enough to buy it?

However, it turned out to be a slap in the face—people were bidding for it with fervor!

As soon as the auction started, the price soared.

110,000… 115,000… 120,000… 125,000…

Xie Mingzhe watched in shock as the price kept climbing higher and higher, his eyes wide in disbelief.

So much money! He had never seen anything like this.
