Chapter 20 - Cottage House IV

Was my behavior towards Walma inappropriate? When I saw her, I should apologize for my behavior. I dried myself thoroughly with a towel. I put on the clean clothes given to me. I was left alone in the room. Since I didn't know which room Arwa was in, I had to look for it myself. Although it was a country house, the house was big, but since it was made of adobe, it needed to be renovated. In the winter, an adobe country house would cause a lot of problems. Anyway, while walking in the corridor, I entered the room that I thought was the sick girl's room because of the heat coming from the room. I finally found Arwa. The room was tidy, there weren't many things. My eyes searched the room for Walma, but she wasn't there. Arwa, Ruseppa (Walma's stepmother) and a little girl who was obviously sick were lying on the bed.

"Alek, are you okay, my child. Are you feeling well?" He said as he sat on the stool next to the little girl.

"Arwa, thank you, I feel very well," I said.

Ruseppa, who was worried next to the little girl, looked at me suggestively. It was obvious that she was not happy with me.

"The clothes you are wearing belong to my husband. Don't think that they belong to you. I lent them to you out of goodwill. When you are done with the clothes, give them to Walma. By the way, where is Walma? Her sister, our sick princess, is not around. This girl's mind is in a cloud. I will die of heart." The woman said grumpily.

"I don't know where Walma is. Also, madam, thank you for lending me your husband's clothes. I will not forget your generosity," I said. The woman was surprised for a moment, then her lips pursed.

"Those who know my generosity know that I am sure you will not forget it," the woman said.

Arwa looked at the woman as if she could not believe what she was saying, and coughed in a way that was obviously fake.

"I am glad you are well my child, come here and let's check the sick girl's illness," Arwa said. I went to Arwa, she was checking the girl's temperature with her hands. The little girl was sleeping innocently, or at least I hoped she was.

"My child, as you can see, the girl's condition is grave; she has a high fever. I put a wet cloth on her hands, wrists, and forehead. The reason I did this is to bring her fever down. Now we need to prepare a special medicine to reduce fever. Do you know what herbs we should use for the medicine?" Arwa said, pointing to the basket next to the stool she was sitting on.

"I know which herbs can be useful. With your permission, can I take out the basket and prepare the medicine?" I said. Hearing what I said, the woman looked at me and frowned.

"Mother Arwa, I called you to cure my only daughter, I did not call your apprentice who cannot walk on a flat road. How can I trust my daughter and let her drink your medicine."I want my daughter to have a future," the woman said in a condescending tone, looking at the bed where her daughter was lying.

I started rummaging through the basket of healing materials without paying much attention to the woman's words.

"Ruseppa, my apprentice may not have left a good impression on you, but I have full confidence in his knowledge and I will help him prepare the medicine if necessary. I will check where he made a mistake." Arwa said.

Although the woman was not very satisfied with what he said, she could not do anything. She was actually lucky to have found a healer to look after her patient. In this day and age, people did not live very long because they did not have adequate health services.

I took out thyme, turmeric and dried Jida leaves from the basket. When Arwa saw the materials I took out, she had a pleased expression.

"Well done, son, you did it just as I showed you," Arwa said.

While I was showing the materials to Arwa, with the help of Siri, I discovered an effective ingredient when the ingredients I took out of the basket were combined. This ingredient is a plant called rosehip, which is similar to the red wild rose seed and is rich in vitamin C.

"What are you going to do with rosehip, my child, or are you going to do what I think you're thinking?" said the woman.

"Yes, Arwa, I'm thinking of adding it to the medicine and even using it as the main ingredient. I'm sure it'll be very effective in reducing fever," I said.

"My child, even though I don't understand why you're so sure, you need to get her mother's consent to try it. Even if the ingredients you showed aren't poisonous, we don't know if they'll be poisonous when you put them together." She put her hand on her chin and said.

I had made combinations of the herbs one by one, together with Siri and the knowledge of my old world. Rosehip was a plant that dissolved easily in water. As a result of my experiments, I realized that it was rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C was also effective in reducing fever. I didn't know how to explain these to Arwa; even if I did, she wouldn't understand.

"I assure you that I cannot allow my daughter to consume unknown drugs. If anything happened to my daughter, my husband would beat me to death," the woman said. The woman felt uneasy whenever she mentioned her husband's name.

"Ruseppa, Alek has never let me down. I trust him completely. I believe his new medicine will be effective. I promise you before the gods, especially the god Tarhun-Tata, that we will not let anything bad happen to your daughter," Arwa said.

Ruseppa tried to ignore what Arwa said, but he could not let her fade away in front of his daughter. It made me understand how difficult it is to make a decision when you are helpless.

The woman did not speak much anymore, she just nodded in agreement.

The woman could not hold back her tears and crouched down, holding on to her daughter's bed.

Q"Oh, the great gods, hear my voice, do not deprive me of my first daughter, Essa. My Gods who are the Almighty and who remove all troubles! Heal my daughter, you are the Almighty ones who heal. There is no one who heals except you" she said and buried her head in the bed and began to cry silently.

"Since Alek has received his approval, you should start preparing the medicine as soon as possible, do not worry, I will help you where you need it" Arwa said with a sigh
