Chereads / VINZO A Vampire’s Wrath / Chapter 18 - Life Lately

Chapter 18 - Life Lately

Eliana wandered through the castle's grand halls, her footsteps echoing off the stone walls. She had been living among vampires for weeks, but the surrealness still lingered.

Eliana enters the castle's dining hall, where Vinzo, Kael, Lorenzo, and Marcus are seated.

Vinzo standing up. "Eliana, join us."

Eliana nervously. "Thanks".

Lorenzo smiling "We've prepared your favorite dish, chicken parmesan."

Eliana laughing. "You're too kind."

Marcus teasingly. "We're trying to fatten you up for... [glances at Vinzo] ...protection purposes."

Vinzo [dryly] "Marcus."

Eliana blushing. "I think I'll manage".

Kael leaning back. "So, Eliana, how's life in the castle?"

Eliana hesitates. "It's...different. I never thought I'd be living among vampires".

Vinzo softly "We mean you no harm."

Eliana meets Vinzo's gaze. "I know. It's just...adjusting to the nocturnal schedule, and... [whispers] not being able to go outside during the day."

Lorenzo reassuringly. "We'll find ways to make your stay comfortable."

"We can arrange nighttime outings! The gardens are lovely under the moon". Marcus said excitedly

Eliana smiling "That sounds wonderful".

Vinzo watching Eliana. "We'll make this work, together".

Eliana's eyes lock onto Vinzo's, a warm connection sparking between them.

The Moonlit Gardens

Eliana strolled alongside Vinzo through the castle's moonlit gardens, the soft glow casting eerie shadows on the stone walls. The night air carried the sweet scent of blooming flowers, but her frustration overshadowed the tranquility.

"I understand the need for secrecy, Vinzo, but can't I at least take a walk during the day?" Eliana asked, her voice tinged with exasperation.

Vinzo's expression remained resolute. "It's not safe, Eliana. Tiberius's allies still seek your blood."

Eliana's footsteps slowed, her gaze drifting toward the dark forest beyond the castle walls. "I feel trapped. I miss the sunlight."

Vinzo's eyes softened, his voice low and soothing. "I know. But our world has different rules."

"Rules that suffocate me," Eliana countered, bitterness creeping into her tone.

Vinzo halted, his hand brushing against hers. "I'll find ways to make your life here more...tolerable."

Eliana's lips curled into a wry smile. "Tolerable? That's a far cry from 'enjoyable'."

Vinzo's gaze lingered on hers, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "I'll work on that."

Just as the tension between them began to dissipate, Kael emerged from the shadows.

"Vinzo, we've received reports of suspicious activity near the castle borders," Kael announced, his voice laced with urgency.

Vinzo's expression turned grave. "How many?"

"At least five," Kael replied, his eyes scanning the surrounding area.

Eliana's unease grew. "What does it mean?"

Vinzo's protectiveness kicked in. "It means we'll increase security. You'll stay close to me."

Eliana's instincts rebelled against the confinement. "Vinzo, I—"

His firm tone brooked no argument. "No discussions, Eliana."

Eliana wondered if she'd ever find freedom in this world of eternal night.

"I don't need a babysitter, Vinzo," Eliana protested, her voice rising.

Vinzo's jaw clenched. "This isn't about babysitting, Eliana. It's about keeping you alive."

"Alive, but imprisoned," Eliana countered, her eyes flashing.

Kael intervened, his tone measured. "Eliana, understand—"

"No, Kael, I understand perfectly," Eliana cut in, her words dripping with sarcasm. "I'm a prized possession, a valuable asset to be locked away and protected."

Vinzo's eyes narrowed. "That's not fair, Eliana."

"Isn't it?" Eliana challenged. "You're dictating my every move, controlling my life."

Vinzo's voice dropped to a low growl. "I'm trying to keep you safe."

"From what? The big bad vampires?" Eliana's laugh was brittle. "I can take care of myself."

Kael stepped forward, his hands raised calmingly. "Eliana, please—"

"No, Kael," Vinzo said, his gaze locked on Eliana's. "Let her speak."

Eliana's chest heaved with emotion. "I want to know what's going on, Vinzo. What's the real reason behind these threats?"

Vinzo's expression turned inscrutable. "You know enough, Eliana."

"I know nothing," Eliana shot back. "Except that my life is no longer mine."

The air was thick with tension as Vinzo's eyes clashed with Eliana's.

Vinzo's gaze held Eliana's, his voice low and intense. "You want to know the truth?"

Eliana nodded, her heart racing.

"The threats aren't just about your bloodline," Vinzo began. "They're about what you represent."

"Which is?" Eliana pressed.

Vinzo's pause was palpable. "Hope. You're the last living heir of the Ancients, Eliana. Your blood carries the key to breaking the curse that's plagued our kind for centuries."

Eliana's eyes widened. "Curse?"

Vinzo's expression turned grim. "The one that forces us to walk in darkness, to feed on the living. You have the power to free us from that existence."

Kael stepped forward, his voice urgent. "Vinzo, we shouldn't—"

Vinzo raised a hand, silencing him. "She deserves to know."

Eliana's mind reeled. "And Tiberius's allies? What do they want?"

Vinzo's jaw clenched. "They want to exploit your blood to gain power, to control the supernatural world."

Eliana's breath caught. "And you, Vinzo? What do you want?"

Vinzo's eyes burned with intensity. "I want to protect you, to keep you safe from those who would harm you."

Eliana's heart skipped a beat. "And what about your own desires?"

Vinzo's gaze faltered, his voice barely above a whisper. "My desires are irrelevant."

Eliana's eyes locked onto Vinzo's, searching for the truth.

Eliana's eyes narrowed. "Irrelevant? Don't lie to me, Vinzo. I've seen the way you look at me."

Vinzo's gaze drifted, his voice low. "Eliana, don't."

"Don't what?" Eliana pressed, her voice rising. "Don't acknowledge the tension between us? Don't admit that you feel something?"

Vinzo's eyes snapped back to hers, his expression fierce. "You don't understand what you're asking."

"I'm asking for the truth," Eliana said, her voice steady.

Vinzo's jaw clenched. "Fine. You want truth? I desire you, Eliana. More than I've ever desired anyone."

The air was electric with tension.

Kael cleared his throat, interrupting the moment. "Vinzo, perhaps—"

"No, Kael," Vinzo growled. "This concerns Eliana and me alone."

Eliana's heart pounded. "Desire isn't love, Vinzo. It's not enough."

Vinzo's gaze burned. "You're right i guess."

Suddenly, footsteps echoed outside the room.

Marcus entered, his expression urgent. "Vinzo, we've received a message from an unknown sender."

Vinzo's focus shifted. "What does it say?"

Marcus hesitated. "It's a warning".
