Chapter 49: Uncertainty
Ava's POV
The darkness receded, revealing the artifacts still glowing with pent-up energy. The ritual, interrupted by the Order's attack, remained incomplete.
"Ava, your magic surged, but the ritual's outcome is unclear," Aethera said, examining the artifacts.
Kael's eyes narrowed. "What does this mean?"
Aethera's expression turned thoughtful. "The artifacts' power remains dormant, awaiting Ava's next move."
Lyrien's grip on his sword tightened. "We can't let the Order reclaim these artifacts."
Elara approached, concern etched on her face. "Ava, your baby's heartbeat is steady, but we must monitor you closely."
I nodded, still reeling from the interrupted ritual.
Days passed, with tension simmering beneath the surface. The Order's absence only heightened our unease.
"Aethera, what's happening with the ancient magic?" I asked during our next training session.
Aethera guided me through exercises to navigate the shifting magical landscape. "The ancient magic responds to your emotions, Ava. Balance is crucial."
As I practiced, Lyrien and Kael strategized.
"We need to secure alliances with neighboring kingdoms," Lyrien said.
Kael nodded. "I'll reach out to old contacts. We can't face the Order alone."
Suddenly, a messenger arrived, bearing an invitation from the mysterious Council of Elders.
"Ava, you're summoned to the Council's chambers," the messenger announced.
Aethera's eyes sparkled. "This could be an opportunity to uncover the Council's true intentions."
I stood before the Council of Elders, their enigmatic faces regarding me with interest.
"Ava, we've summoned you to discuss the prophecy's progression," one of the Council members said.
Aethera's presence beside me provided comfort.
"What do you know of the prophecy?" I asked, curiosity piqued.
The Council member smiled. "We know the prophecy's threads are complex, involving multiple players. We also know the Order of the White Oak seeks to exploit the prophecy for their own gain."
