Chapter 44: Order of the moon (part 1)
Ava's POV
The hooded figure stepped forward, revealing a woman with piercing silver eyes.
"I am Eirlys, a member of the Order of the Moon," she said. "We've been watching you, Ava. You're the only one that can prevent a catastrophic event about to happen."
"I was honestly getting tired of everything, why is it like I'm the one that supposed to end everything." I thought
Kael's grip on his sword tightened. "What event?"
Eirlys' gaze locked onto mine. "The Great Convergence. The alignment of the celestial bodies will unlock the ancient magic, but also unleash a terrible darkness."
Lyrien's face paled. "The Darkness of Eldrid. I thought it was just a myth."
Eirlys nodded. "Your family's downfall, Lyrien, was not just assassination. It was a sacrifice to appease the darkness."
Lyrien's eyes widened in horror. "My family's death... it was a ritual?"
Eirlys' expression turned somber. "Yes. The Order of the White Oak seeks to repeat the ritual, using Ava and her child as sacrifices."
Aethera's voice cut through the tension. "The Order of the Moon's involvement is complex. Tell Ava the truth, Eirlys."
Eirlys hesitated before speaking. "The Order of the Moon was founded by your ancestors, Ava. We've protected the ancient magic and awaited the prophecy's fulfillment. But we've also made mistakes... and alliances."
Suddenly, Lyrien's past came flooding back. Memories of his family's assassination, his escape, and his vow for revenge.
"No," Lyrien whispered, his eyes locked onto Eirlys. "You're the one who helped me escape. You're my sister's friend."
Eirlys nodded, tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry, Lyrien. I couldn't save your family, but I vowed to protect you."
As the truth sank in, I felt a surge of emotions. The web of alliances and rivalries between the Order of the Moon, the Order of the White Oak, and the Council of Elders was complex.
