Chapter 32: Kaida
Third person POV
Ava's instincts screamed warning as she followed Kaida into the darkness. The assassin's words echoed in her mind: "I'll only share it with Ava. Alone." Sabine's concerned expression lingered, a reminder of the doubts Ava couldn't shake.
As they walked, the camp's warmth and light gave way to the chill of the night. Kaida led Ava to a secluded clearing, the only sound the rustling of leaves beneath their feet.
"What is it, Kaida?" Ava asked, her voice firm but wary.
Kaida's eyes gleamed in the moonlight, her gaze piercing. "The Shadow Brotherhood... they're not what they seem. Their true goal is not Cassius' victory, but something far more sinister."
Ava's skepticism grew. "What makes you think I'll believe you? You're an assassin, Kaida. Your loyalty is to the highest bidder."
Kaida's expression remained unreadable. "Perhaps. But I've seen things, Ava. Things that make me question everything. The Shadow Brotherhood's power reaches far beyond this realm. They'll stop at nothing to achieve their goals."
Ava's mind reeled, doubts swirling like a maelstrom. Could she trust Kaida, or was this a clever ploy to manipulate her?
Suddenly, a twig snapped behind them. Ava spun around, her heart racing.
"Who's there?" Kaida called out, her hand on the hilt of her dagger.
The darkness remained silent, but Ava's senses screamed warning. They were being watched.
