Chapter 31: Shadows
Ava's newfound connection to the ancient magic pulsed through her veins like liquid fire. She felt invincible, yet vulnerable. The weight of her destiny pressed upon her.
As she walked through the camp, whispers followed her. Some praised her bravery, while others questioned her loyalty.
"Ava, we need to discuss the Shadow Brotherhood," Sabine said, her voice low and urgent.
Ava's heart skipped a beat. "What about them?"
Sabine's eyes narrowed. "They're backing Cassius. We don't know their true intentions, but it can't be good."
Ava's thoughts swirled. The Shadow Brotherhood? She'd never heard of them.
Just then, a figure emerged from the shadows. Kaida, the assassin.
"Ava," Kaida said, her voice husky. "We need to talk."
Ava's instincts screamed warning, but Sabine's calm demeanor reassured her.
"What do you want, Kaida?" Ava asked.
Kaida's gaze flickered between Ava and Sabine. "I have information about the Shadow Brotherhood. Information that could change everything."
Sabine's eyes locked onto Kaida. "What kind of information?"
Kaida hesitated, her eyes darting around the camp. "I'll only share it with Ava. Alone."
Ava exchanged a wary glance with Sabine. What secrets did Kaida hide?
The air grew thick with tension as Ava weighed her options.
Will Ava trust Kaida?
