Soon, an instructor walked out from behind the door, looking at them with some surprise.
"New recruit?"
"Yes."
"What's your name?"
"Lin QiYe."
The instructor's muscles tensed, and he stared at Lin QiYe for a moment, as though inspecting some rare treasure.
"You... are Lin QiYe?"
Lin QiYe felt a little uncomfortable under his intense gaze. "Yes, that's me. What's the problem?"
"No problem." The instructor shook his head, opened the gates of the training camp, and said, "You're the first one to arrive this year. Come in."
"By the way, I'm Hong Hao, your instructor."
"Hello, Instructor Hong," Lin QiYe greeted politely as he entered the camp.
Instructor Hong nodded. "You're early, so you've got lucky. This time, I'll personally show you around the training camp."
Instructor Hong led Lin QiYe through the vast training camp.
The interior of the camp was much larger than Lin QiYe had imagined. The buildings were not temporary tents or prefab houses; they were made of some unknown material that had solidified into sturdy structures. The buildings were perfectly aligned with the ground, as if they had grown out of the earth.
The ground was divided into neat lines, designating where people and vehicles could go. There were even clear markings for the locations of the cafeteria, dormitories, and other facilities. The precision of the lines and their colors were quite pleasing—almost like a dream for someone with obsessive-compulsive tendencies.
If Lin QiYe didn't know this place had once been a barren wasteland, he would have thought it was a newly completed base built over several years.
Military trucks raced down the roads, loaded with boxes of supplies and equipment—food, water, weapons, bedding... Lin QiYe even noticed one truck was packed with explosives!
His lips twitched slightly. He suddenly had some concerns about the safety of this base.
Up until now, Lin QiYe had never received formal collective training. Since he had been blind since elementary school, he hadn't participated in any military drills in middle or high school. He barely even took part in gym class. If not for his regular personal workouts, his body would likely be in poor condition by now.
"Over there is the training field. Most of the physical training takes place there," Instructor Hong pointed to a large, empty space in the distance, resembling an airport. "Physical fitness is our focus, and judging by your physique, you'll probably have a hard time."
"That's the cafeteria, the place you'll both love and hate over the next year."
"That's the classroom, used for theoretical lessons."
"Those abandoned buildings over there are the mobility training area, used for close-quarters combat, rope descents, and zip lining..."
"Over there is the shooting range..."
"..."
Lin QiYe kept track of the various training areas, feeling both curious and excited.
"What's this? A convenience store?" Lin QiYe asked, pointing to a small shop nearby.
The shop looked like the usual school convenience store, a small building with shelves full of daily necessities. At that moment, several instructors were standing outside, pointing at some cigarettes on the wall, chatting among themselves.
"That's the supply station," Instructor Hong glanced over.
"The camp is fully enclosed. There's no need for money here. If your personal items are damaged, you can come here to get replacements. Bread, water, cigarettes—each person gets a monthly ration. It should be more than enough."
As they passed by, the instructors inside seemed to notice something. They all turned to look at Lin QiYe, whispering among themselves.
Lin QiYe frowned. "Why are they all staring at me?"
"You're the agent of the Seraphim. It's normal for them to be curious," Instructor Hong replied.
"Hasn't there been any agents in previous recruit trainings?"
"Of course," Instructor Hong nodded. "The last agent to leave here became the leader of the 'Mask' team."
"'Mask'?" Lin QiYe blinked, remembering that Wen QiMo had mentioned this special squad's achievements. "Who was their god's agent?"
"This... You'll find out in a few days," Instructor Hong smiled slightly but didn't answer directly.
Instructor Hong led Lin QiYe to a dense cluster of buildings. "This is the dormitory area, all the rooms are doubles. You're the first one to arrive, so feel free to pick any room."
Lin QiYe nodded, taking a brief walk around the dorm building before selecting a room that faced south, had the best natural light, and was the most comfortable.
"Good choice. I'll register it for you," Instructor Hong noted Lin QiYe's room number. "The training officially starts in three days. You can rest for now, but after that... for the next year, you won't get much rest."
After a brief instruction, Instructor Hong turned and left, leaving Lin QiYe alone in the dorm.
The environment of the dorm was cleaner than Lin QiYe expected, but the facilities were extremely basic. The low, hard bed felt uncomfortable just to sit on, and there was no air conditioning, not even a fan.
Fortunately, Lin QiYe was used to tough living conditions. This environment didn't bother him. He quickly set up his things, made the bed, and lay down.
There was no signal, no phone, and nothing to do. If he had to stay in this room for three days with nothing to pass the time, it would drive him crazy.
But thankfully, his mind had a psychiatric hospital, so when bored, he could go chat with Nikes, have tea, or play chess with Li Yi in the activity room—he didn't find it boring at all.
The next morning, Lin QiYe went to the supply station to get some supplies, as the cafeteria hadn't opened yet, and there was nowhere else to get breakfast.
When he returned to the dorm, he found several people already standing in front of his door.
"Young master, I've shown you so many places, and this one has the best environment—warm in winter and cool in summer, with the best sunlight!" A man with a flattering smile spoke to a little chubby boy.
"Ah, speaking of it, Cangnan really isn't as good as Guangzhou or Shenzhen. The economy is poor, and the environment is worse. Tsk... Young master, look at this house, how badly built is it? The walls are peeling! Look at the facilities in these dorms, how simple are they? Can anyone sleep on this bed? Young master, why don't we just go back? We don't need to suffer here!"
The little chubby boy puffed out his chest and glared at him. "Nonsense! I came here to suffer! I'm not going back! Stop talking, open the door. I'm staying here today!"
The man sighed and unlocked the door. He froze when he saw the interior.
"Oh no! Who is so rude to take my room?" he yelled. "Quick! You guys—get their things out! It's filthy!"
The bodyguards behind the chubby boy rushed forward, intending to remove the belongings.
Lin QiYe's eyes flashed coldly.
Hah.
The typical rich young master bullying a commoner routine.
This was one of his favorite scenarios—showing off and slapping faces, pretending to be weak, and then showing true strength!
Just as Lin QiYe was about to take action, the little chubby boy suddenly kicked the man in the backside and began cursing loudly.
"Damn it! This is a double room! My roommate is staying here! How dare you touch my stuff?"
The man fell to the ground, panic-stricken, slapped himself a few times, and scrambled out the door.
"You guys—bring my gifts for my roommate! Today, my roommate will see... what it means to become good friends and have a bond stronger than steel!"
