"Ahhhh!!!"
"Quiet!"
"You... you killed Xiuxiu!"
"She's not her anymore. Haven't you noticed?"
Witnessing her sister, who had been hiding together in the cubicle just moments ago, transform into a monster and being cut in half, the two girls were completely stunned, their legs trembling with fear.
Lin QiYe helplessly helped them out of the restroom. At the entrance, a few men and women had gathered in scattered groups. When they saw Lin QiYe walking out with the two girls, their eyes filled with admiration.
"Was there really someone inside? Senior QiYe, you're amazing!"
"You could tell there was someone inside from ten meters away? Senior QiYe, are you a cultivator? Can you take me along?"
"What are you standing there for? This isn't the time to chat! Help them out!"
Only then did they react and quickly rushed forward to help the two girls who had been rescued.
They were all survivors whom Lin QiYe had saved during their first year of high school, many of whom were as frightened as the two girls. Thankfully, most of the boys were more resilient and didn't collapse from fear.
"Senior QiYe, what do we do next?"
"Both teaching buildings have been searched. Go hide in the auditorium you passed earlier. I've cleared it out already." Lin QiYe spoke casually.
"What about you?"
"The sophomore building is the real danger zone. I still need to rescue people."
"Can I go with you? I drove off a monster with a fire axe earlier. I can help!" A sturdy-looking boy spoke up.
"No need. I'll go alone." Lin QiYe shook his head and pointed at the girls who were still shaking. "Use that fire axe to protect them."
"Alright."
Lin QiYe didn't stay any longer, giving brief instructions before running downstairs alone, heading toward the sophomore building.
The monsters hidden in that area accounted for about sixty percent of the entire school, and it had already been nearly ten minutes since the chaos began. Who knew what had become of the sophomore building...
He hoped they were smart enough.
**...**
"Quick, quick! Boys, push the desks and chairs into the hallway and block it off!"
"Come on, push harder! We can't let them get up here!"
"What about the girls? Stop screaming and help bandage the injured!"
"What? There are survivors on the third floor? Damn it, Axe Team! Charge!"
"Mr. Wang, you're in charge of this floor!"
On the chaotic fifth-floor balcony, Li Yifei shouted at the top of his lungs. Most of the second-year students had gathered on this floor, and the desks and chairs tightly blocked the hallways on both sides. Ten or so monsters were trying to get through.
The scholarly-looking Mr. Wang, who wore glasses, nodded seriously. "Don't worry. I'll handle this floor. All those years of tower defense games weren't for nothing."
Li Yifei grabbed a fire axe and slung it over his shoulder. He shouted toward the opposite hallway, and a few sturdy boys holding fire axes, steel pipes, and even tennis rackets quickly ran over.
"There are still over twenty students trapped in 8th Class on the third floor. We're going to rescue them!" Li Yifei explained briefly, and several of the boys quickly tied their clothes together to form a rope, securing it to the hallway railing before it hung down.
Li Yifei tested it, finding it sturdy enough, and climbed onto the railing. He gripped the rope tightly and slowly descended, mimicking the scenes he'd seen on TV.
The other boys followed suit, feeling nervous but managing to stay organized.
"Mr. Wang, do you think Li Yifei and the others will be okay?" A girl asked, looking worriedly at the scene.
Mr. Wang gave them a deep look, sighed, and replied, "How could it not be dangerous? But I trust his abilities..."
"Li Yifei is so handsome, I never noticed before!" A girl whispered nearby.
"In every dark age, some previously unknown individuals step forward to lead others. Li Yifei and the others, who seemed hopeless before, possess potential that others cannot replace in this environment.
Never underestimate anyone, no matter how inconspicuous they may seem. They might shine brilliantly on a day you least expect it." Mr. Wang pushed up his glasses and then, as if realizing something, turned to remind the girl.
"By the way, no dating."
"..."
Li Yifei and the others successfully descended to the third-floor hallway. Most of the monsters had been drawn to the hallways between the fourth and fifth floors, and the third floor was mostly deserted except for two monsters, which were circling the door to 8th Class.
At this moment, the doors and windows of 8th Class had been blocked with desks and chairs, leaving the two monsters circling outside, unable to break through.
It wasn't just Li Yifei who was smart.
Li Yifei and his team moved stealthily, making very little noise. The two monsters didn't notice them at first. It wasn't until they were right behind them that the monsters sensed their presence.
The monsters quickly turned around, baring their teeth and preparing to strike.
"Hold them off!" Li Yifei shouted.
The boys quickly grabbed chairs from the classroom and charged at the two monsters. While the monsters were formidable in their ability to devour humans, their strength wasn't far beyond that of ordinary people. The boys, with the chairs in hand, managed to hold them off, but the monsters' sharp teeth quickly destroyed the chairs.
In the brief moment that followed, the remaining boys lunged forward, swinging fire axes and steel pipes at the monsters' mouths. After a flurry of strikes, the monsters convulsed before falling, their heads crushed beyond recognition.
The boys panted heavily, but there was a grin tugging at their lips, their eyes filled with excitement.
Together, they had defeated two terrifying monsters!
"Quick, let's rescue the others!" Li Yifei ran to the door of the classroom and knocked urgently.
Inside, the students had been watching the commotion through gaps in the desks and chairs. When they saw that Li Yifei's team had killed the monsters, they quickly opened a door, and a few boys rushed out.
"I'm Li Yifei from Class 2. Come with us, we need to evacuate!" Li Yifei called out.
"Evacuate? Where can we go?" The lead boy shook his head and pointed toward the first floor. "The first floor has been completely overrun. There are at least ten monsters down there, and we can't break through. If you can kill two, can you kill ten?"
"We'll head upstairs." Li Yifei responded seriously. "We've cleared the monsters on the fifth floor and piled desks and chairs to block the hallways. Most of the students are hiding there now."
"The fifth floor?" The boy laughed. "Let me ask you, what floor are we on right now?"
"Third floor."
"Where are the monsters gathered?"
"The first, second, and fourth floors..."
"So, even if what you're saying is true, if we break through to the fifth floor, how do we get past the monsters concentrated on the fourth floor?
And even if we do break through, you just said the hallways on the fifth floor are blocked... Do you think you'll be able to open the door for us, let everyone through, and then seal it again?" He pointed at the rope hanging down the hallway.
"Or do you think we can all climb that rope and get to the fifth floor?"
Li Yifei fell silent.
