Marina POV
I dailed the number again and it fell straight to voicemail. This was the fourth time in three days I had tried reaching out to Emma Lyle
" Marina!" I heard at the door.
I looked up to see him at the doorway. I was already tensed enough seeing him and trying to hide from him at the club.
" Yes sir" I said suprised to see him in my office, something he had never done.
" Why hasn't the gala night guest list not still updated by now." I furrowed my eyebrows as I tried to remember if I had done it. I widening my eyes, I had not done it.
" I'm so sorry sir." I said quickly trying to log into the computer.
" Incompetent." He said face palming himself, a habit I have noticed he does when he is angry.
" Just get it done already and send it to me via email." He said before he walked out.
" Yes sir." I was so embarrassed. I'm pretty sure that was the second strike.
My mind kept racing, a lot of things going through it all at once. I was getting fed up. I still have not figured out if I am truly a Lyle or just a nobody. I was running out of options on where to get money for my mum's surgery.
The doctor's words kept ringing in my head on how she had just a month to live, if I can't pay the surgery fee.
After work I decided to call Oscar. The agreement I had with Oscar was for him to pay after every two months. And It was not yet up to two months since I started working for him but I needed money.
I picked up my phone and dialed Oscar.
" Miss Marina. I didn't know you were this fast, I believe this means you have information for me, isn't it?."
" Not really Mr Langston. My mum need to undergo a surgery and if I can't provide half of the bill they won't carry on with the surgery."
" So what you're saying is that, you want an upfront payment?"
" Yes sir."
" No that can't work, we had an agreement. You can't break it"
" Sir please I need the ...."
"First, do not just call me whenever you want to without clear reason that has to go with our agreement and secondly Find some information and I'll give you a part of the money." Immediately he hang up. I started racking my brain for any information I can lay my hands. If there was any vital information I could use would definitely be in Adrian's office which is rarely open for me.
Few minutes later, a lady knocked on my door.
I couldn't believe the co- heir was standing right here, in front of me.
Vivian DeMarco was right Infront of me with a smile.
" Is Adrian in?" She asked in a soft voice. I nodded my head replying her as my eye focused on her beauty.
" Ok" she replied walking towards the door.
" Well, you ....can't go in now. I have to let him know you are here. I said standing up from my chair so quickly and approaching his door.
" Miss Vivan DeMarco is here to see her to see you."
" I'm busy."
" She has an appointment with you fixed already." He groans before muttering a ' let her in'.
I ushered her into his office and returned back to my office. The worry settled in again but I succeeded in finishing up the guest list.
As I walked to the hospital after work I felt my phone vibrate. It could be Emma Lyle. Immediately I pulled the phone from my handbag, but was disappointed when I saw the name.
It wasn't Emma Lyle rather an unknown number. I swiped the answer button and placed it over my ear.
" Hello?"
" My name is Leo, am I speaking with Marina."
" Yes this is Marina." I replied, hoping this had nothing to do with my mum's condition.
" I would like to see you for a cup of coffee, if you don't mind."
" How do I know you again?" I asked confused.
" I'm just a friend, you would love to meet." I rolled my eyes at his cokiness. It's probably one of those numerous spam calls. I hanged up immediately.
I observed my environment keenly. The park had a way of keeping my mind at peace. In the park everything felt so normal, I was just a normal girl in the park. It is also where my best ideas are formed too.
I could go to Emma Lyle's house and see her. I browsed about her and only few things popped up thankfully her office address was one of them.
I stood in front of the small bungalow building as I double checked the address. I didn't want to be in the wrong place. I walked into the building and walked to the receptionist desk.
" Hello, I'm looking for Emma Lyle."
" Do you have an appointment?" She asked typing away on her computer.
" No"
" Then you'll have to wait till it's your turn." I nodded my head and walked back to the sit that was in the reception. After so much wait it was finally my turn.
" Miss Marina you can go in now." I picked up my bag and went in.
" How can I help you ?" She said taking a sip from her cup of coffee.
" Um ....I want to find out about somethings."
" You are Emma Lyle, right.?"
" Yes, who's asking?"
" David Lyle?" Her reaction made me know that she knows something.
