Chapter 9 - the cohort

Lunar and Aurora shot each other a smile, and had a silent conversation. In the stands, Scarlett was looking at them with so much excitement to see who is stronger, her mommy or her daddy. Lunar swore that yes, he would go all out, but some abilities he just cannot use, like his flames or the ability of his sword that he hadn't shown yet, his hidden trump card, the ability even stronger than his void. Lunar saw a plan, a pathway to victory. Aurora was, yes, kind of calm most of the time with some outbursts, but those calm, calculating eyes had a silent bloodlust behind them. Her eyes had a strange glint behind them; she wanted to win.

Lunar and Aurora waited for the other to make the starting move, but none of them went in first. Unlike the other fights, they both waited for the other, but behind the scenes, the light and the devouring void were in a fearsome battle. The winner would have the upper hand. Lunar went in for a slash, and Aurora went into a defensive stance. Lunar used void on her ear to temporarily put her in a haze, but she used the light to banish the void, but that gave Lunar an opening; he went in for a downslash, but it didn't connect. Aurora swiftly dodged to take the upper hand, but Lunar was going to beat her using his sword, not his void. Lunar used void control, but against Aurora's light, it wasn't as effective. Lunar used [void control], and Aurora used her trump card [light domain]. The light and its opposite, the void, clashed, but the light was too overpowering, but Lunar grinned and used his own trump card. The onyx sword had an ability, and that ability was purely made for destruction, so he had to limit it to only one percent.

[Destructive void] 1%

The battlefield went black, the void devouring everything in its path. Lunars grin got even darker, and when the void was broken, Aurora had a sword to her neck. Aurora sighed and smiled and then said:

"I forfeit. You won this time, but not the next. Mark my words, Lunar."

Lunar replied mockingly:

"Neither this time nor the next hundred times"

The narrator shouted:

"Lunar is the victor! and he gets to pick which Soulmates he will recruit for his cohort as well as getting access to tier 2 benefits!"

Lunar forgot that there were prizes, but the best prize for him right now would be his bed.

"Lunar, wake up! it's lunchtime."

Aurora said, shaking him. Lunar grumbled and yawned, then spoke with a groggy voice:

"OK, I'm awake."

Lunar basically dragged himself into the cafeteria seat as Aurora went to bring their food; the old man had taken Scarlett to the amusement park after the battle. There was a big flat screen with the rankings.

1) Lunar

2) Aurora

3) Noah

4) Elena

5) Mary

6) Xavier .....

Lunar already knew who he was going to pick: the top 6, of course, but he also had an idea, but this was going to be better later than now, and yes, he did test one of his trump cards, but how was it going to look at full power?

It might be strong enough to even devour the stars.

He was getting weird glances. He was the strongest, but no one knew what his timeline

Had in store for him. Aurora sat down next to him, and they both started eating their burgers when someone tapped on his shoulder. It was Noah standing with Elena. Noah asked:

"Can we sit down with you?"

Lunar nodded and continued eating. Then Mary the blond, blue eyed woman, with a slender body and her partner,Xavier the man with ginger hair a lean body and visible muscles.Came to sit with them, it was Lunar and Aurora on one side and the gang on the another. Lunar had to inform them of his choice to make them a cohort. Lunar began:

"I think you guys will be the members of my cohort. I know that because after studying all of your abilities, I came to that conclusion. If anyone decides to decline, you may show your hand."

No one did that, then Lunar continued:

"All of you know that a writer can't stay in this world for long, or they will fade away, so we have to go to the written world together. I will set it up; we might meet a horror or two, but I know we will survive by Aurora's name."

Aurora cut him off:

"Why me?"

Lunar replied simply:

"You won't die easily, so take it as a compliment."

Aurora gave him a look, but Lunar kept going: "We go tonight."
