Chapter 37 - Strategies

The wolf sprinted swiftly towards them, baring its teeth and its eyes shining with the familiar rage of battle. Angela acted without any delays. She swiftly pulled the knife from her jacket and confronted the creature head-on. Her body shook from the impact as they collided, but she remained steady, driving the blade deep into its side.

Kael stood beside her, skillfully fending off another wolf with lethal precision. Alec and Lia were both immersed in their own internal battles, showcasing their expertise honed over many years. The noises of growls and clashes filled the air as the fight descended into chaos.

Angela twisted the knife, making the wolf scream in pain before falling to the ground. Quickly, she spun around, searching for the rest of the group. A large amount of wolves were emerging from the trees. The number of individuals on their side exceeded that of the adversary. It was clear that the traitors had carefully planned for this surprise attack.

Withdraw! Kael shouted with great intensity, his voice cutting through the disorder of the fight.

Angela paid little attention to his words before another wolf suddenly pounced at her, its teeth dangerously close to her throat. Avoiding the attack, she promptly jabbed her elbow into its torso, making it stumble backwards. Swiftly she threw her knife, watching it puncture the creature's neck instantly.

An ear-splitting howl echoed through the vast area, signaling more wolves were on their way. Angela gazed into Kael's eyes. He nodded towards the trees, signaling for her to go ahead. There was no need for a second reminder from her.

She swiftly ran to the edge of the forest, skillfully dodging a wolf that was leaping towards her.

While dashing through the woods, her heart pounded in her chest as the sounds of the battle carried on in the distance. At that moment, she could not think about anyone else. The only thing that mattered was surviving.

As she was running, she caught a quick look of something in her peripheral vision. A tall, hooded figure moving quicker than the wolves that encircled it. Creature that is not alive and is active during the night.

Angela abruptly halted, panting in quick, shallow breaths. The vampire came out of the shadows, locking its red gaze on her while a grin spread across its lips.

"Are you leaving already?" it asked, its voice just as smooth as silk.

She chose not to respond. She, on the other hand, stepped back as her muscles tensed up. The vampire moved smoothly and quickly, closing the distance between them in a flash.

"Are you also participating in this?" Angela asked, keeping her voice steady despite her heart beating rapidly.

A sign of amusement flashed in the vampire's eyes as its head tilted slightly. "I am simply here to watch."

Angela had a powerful desire to grab her sword, but realized it wouldn't work against a vampire at a distance. She had to think quickly. If the wolves were working together with the vampire in the attack. It confirmed everything Kael said.

She inquired, while buying time, "What is the reason for helping them?"

The vampire's smile expanded, revealing sharp fangs. "Due to chaos being entertaining."

Before she could react, the vampire darted again, too fast for her to track, grabbing her by the neck and firmly pressing her against a nearby tree. The impact left her gasping for air, pushing back against its strength, as she tried to loosen the firm hold around her neck with her hands."Is there any way to stop what's about to happen?" the vampire gently inquired, drawing closer. The Alpha King will obtain his desires despite any opposition you may present.

Angela had difficulty breathing, her vision blurring at the edges. She needed to act quickly or it would be too late. She searched for the small dagger hidden in her boot, with a silver tip meant to hurt vampires.

Quickly, she plunged the dagger into the vampire's side. Feeling pain, it made a hissing sound and loosened its grip a bit, letting her get away. She gasped for air and staggered back, only to realize the vampire had recovered faster than she expected.

"It snarled, its eyes filled with rage," it warned, "You'll regret this."

Angela didn't waste any time in waiting for it to strike again. Glancing over her shoulder, she sprinted off, her lungs burning as she raced through the trees, aware of the vampire's presence trailing closely behind her. She was unaware of their present location, but she couldn't focus on it. She had to survive.

The vampire could sense her getting closer. She could hear the sound of its footsteps getting closer, feel the chilling presence lurking behind her. She couldn't run as fast as it. She needed a new plan.

The vampire's smile broadened, revealing sharp fangs. "Amusement is provided by chaos."

Before she could react, the vampire swiftly moved again, too fast for her to track, grabbing her by the neck and forcefully pushing her against a nearby tree. The impact took her breath away, struggling against its strength, her hands holding onto the firm grasp around her neck.

"Are you able to stop what's approaching?" the vampire whispered, getting closer. The Alpha King will achieve his desires despite any opposition you may have.

Angela had difficulty breathing as her vision blurred around the edges. She needed to act right away or it would soon be too late. She searched for the small dagger hidden in her boot - with a silver tip meant to harm a vampire.

Quickly, she plunged the dagger into the vampire's side. Feeling pain, it emitted a hiss and loosened its grip a little, enabling her to break free. She gasped for air and stepped back, realizing the vampire had recovered faster than she expected.

"It snarled, its eyes filled with anger," it warned, "You will regret this."

Angela didn't pause before allowing it to strike once again. She looked over her shoulder and ran quickly, her chest burning as she dashed among the trees, the vampire's aura trailing close behind. Not knowing their current location, she couldn't linger on the thought. She had to survive.

The vampire was approaching her, and she could sense it. She could hear the footsteps getting closer, feel the chilling presence right behind her. She could not outrun it. She needed a separate strategy.
