The warm glow of late afternoon sunlight slipped through the white silk curtains as Yin Zhi open her eyes, Dazed for a few seconds before sitting up from her bed, raising her hand as she reached for the intercom beside her bed, pressing the button for the Main Palace kitchen line. Hearing the familiar click of connection, she spoke briefly before ending the call. "Send my meal to my room."
Yin Zhi stretched slightly as she stood up and walk towards her bathroom and the splash of cool water on her face woke her up completely as she watched her reflection in the mirror. Her skin was an almost ethereal shade of pale, smooth, and porcelain like.
Seeing her look, Yin Zhi couldn't help but sigh. Her current appearance clearly states that she really didn't suffer from anything, not unlike in her past life where she was almost skin and bone and even her once smooth and scar-less skin is tainted with scars.
Thinking about it, Yin Zhi chuckled as she dried her face and made her way to the small dining room connected to her room as she settled on the single sofa in front of the dining table and she relaxed.
A few minutes later, a light chime sounded from the door so Yin Zhi reached the remote beside her and pressing a button as the door of the dining room slid open as pair of maids entered, carefully pushing in a tray cart filled with dishes as they arranged everything on the dining table before bowing slightly as they exited her room.
Yin Zhi's gaze swept across the elegant array of dishes laid out in front of her. In front of her, an egg white congee, delicately garnished with scallions with a touch of white pepper, and beside it, there is a fragrant bowl of steaming white rice.
A glass pitcher of cold water sat nearby, condensation beading on its surface, alongside a tall glass of freshly pineapple juice as its brght yellow hue vibrant against the mahogany table.
To one side, a small bamboo steamer was opened to reveal xiaolongbao, as each dumpling glistened with a hint of broat inside its delicate skin. Next to it was a platter of golden, crispy Peking duck slices served with a paper thin pancake, julienne cucumbers and hoisin sauce.
A jade green dish presented a braised sea cucumber in a rich abalone sauce, its deep umami aroma filling the air, while a porcelain bowl held stir fried lobster with a ginger and scallions, the lobster shell bright against the golden glaze.
Next to it, a plate of stir-fried pea shoots with garlic, and at the center of it was a beaudiful steamed whole sea bass, garnished with ginger, scallions, and thin slices of red chili, with soy sesame sauce pooled around it. Next to it, a plate of steamed tilapia topped with Shiitake Mushrooms, scallions, and ginger with a mixture of light soy sauce was poured over the fish.
Looking at the plate of food in front of her which was clearly more than enough for one person, Yin Zhi couldn't help but sigh. In the past, before she experience the zombie apocalypse, she didn't really mind about how many dishes is served at the table and whether she could eat it all or not. But now that she knows how precious the food is, she couldn't just waste the food in front of her.
"Qiji." - Yin Zhi called out and after a minute. A small palm size black kitten entered the dining room from her room.
"What's wrong?" - The black kitten asked as she jumped in the armchair of Yin Zhi sofa. She was sleeping next to Yin Zhi earlier and when Yin Zhi stood up, she just continued sleeping in the bed, and she only woke up after Yin Zhi called her.
"Since your not an ordinary kitten, You can eat human food right?" - Yin Zhi ask as she stroke the small head of the black kitten.
"Yeah." - Yin Qiji agreed
"Then let's eat." Hearing Yin Zhi words, Yin Qiji tilted her head before jumping slighty to the dining table, her nose twitching as she eyed the dishes.
Seeing her like that, Yin Zhi nudges the plate of steamed tilapia with shiitake mushroom in her direction, "For you."
Yin Qiji sat at the table and raised her eyebrow as she look at her, "I'm not really a cat, you know." her small voice tinged with sarcasm.
A soft chuckle escape from Yin Zhi's mouth as she picked the spoon of the congee. "Well, I really didn't know what you like to eat so I thought you might like fish since you're stuck in this cat form."
Yin Qiji gave an exagerated eye roll, "Well, I am not gonna be picky since i haven't eaten human food for, hmm… about ten thousand years."
