"If Lin Shiyun wanted to help me find another wife, I honestly wouldn't be surprised," Ye Feng thought to himself, shaking his head in amusement.
"The top 20 in the class sounds tough to crack, but I really want to go on this trip. What should I do?" Hao Jian sighed, his face etched with worry.
Fan Tong, sitting nearby, nodded in agreement, sharing the same concern.
"Don't worry. We'll all be going. Just rely on your big brother here," Ye Feng said confidently, waving off the difficulty of the upcoming exam with ease.
"Cheating? That's unacceptable!" Lin Shiyun, ever the model student, looked at Ye Feng in shock, clearly disapproving of his suggestion to help the two cheat.
"Have you ever heard of a couplet?" Ye Feng asked, a sly smile playing on his lips as he looked at her surprised expression. He recalled a humorous quote he'd come across about exam cheating.
"What couplet?" The three of them perked up in unison, curiosity evident in their eyes.
"'If you don't cheat in exams, you'll repeat a grade next year. Better to lose your integrity than fail entirely,'" Ye Feng declared with mock seriousness, delivering the punchline with flair.
Lin Shiyun: "…"
She was rendered speechless by the way Ye Feng justified cheating with such shameless logic.
Hao Jian and Fan Tong, on the other hand, burst out laughing. "Ye Feng, you're too funny!"
"What's so funny? Tell me, am I wrong?" Ye Feng asked, feigning indignation before laughing along with them.
"Alright, enough joking around. Go and review your notes—the exam is starting soon," Lin Shiyun said with a sigh, exasperated by their antics. She gestured at Hao Jian and Fan Tong, who immediately scrambled back to their seats.
When the exam began, Ye Feng glanced at the test paper in front of him and muttered to himself, "Wow, these questions are way too easy."
But instead of answering them, he leaned back, stretched, and said, "Forget it, I'll take a nap first." He cast a glance at Hao Jian and Fan Tong, who both looked like they were trying to solve the mysteries of the universe, and shook his head in mock pity.
"Is he seriously sleeping?" Fan Tong whispered to Hao Jian, his face a mixture of frustration and disbelief. "We're counting on him to help us cheat!"
"Fatty, wake him up!" Fan Tong hissed urgently.
"How am I supposed to do that? He's already out cold," Hao Jian replied, utterly exasperated.
"Kick him, you idiot. I'll distract the teacher," Fan Tong instructed, rolling his eyes.
Raising his hand, Fan Tong called out to the invigilator, "Teacher, teacher!"
"What's the matter?" The invigilator looked up from the podium, adjusting his glasses as he walked over.
"I need to use the restroom," Fan Tong said, winking at Hao Jian as the invigilator turned his attention away.
"Fine, go ahead, but make it quick. You're such trouble during exams," the teacher muttered as he waved Fan Tong off before returning to his seat.
With the teacher distracted, Hao Jian swiftly delivered a sharp kick under the table to Ye Feng's leg.
"Ow! Who kicked me?" Ye Feng groaned, jolting awake from his half-asleep state, his dream of a romantic rendezvous rudely interrupted.
"Ye Feng, the answers!" Hao Jian whispered urgently, his face full of desperation.
"Oh, right, the answers," Ye Feng muttered, his grogginess fading as he remembered his promise. He rubbed his eyes, looked at the test paper, and immediately started writing at lightning speed, solving the problems without breaking a sweat.
"Piece of cake," Ye Feng muttered as he breezed through the paper, finishing the math exam in less than ten minutes.
"Here, take this," he said, jotting down the answers on a slip of paper and passing it discreetly to Hao Jian.
After the exam, back in the classroom, Fan Tong clapped Ye Feng on the shoulder. "Ye Feng, are you sure these answers are right? Hao Jian and I are counting on you. Whether or not we get to go on that trip is all riding on this."
"Unless you two are complete morons who can't even copy answers properly, you'll be fine. Relax," Ye Feng replied nonchalantly. He leaned back in his chair with a carefree smirk.
After all, if he didn't score well enough himself, Lin Shiyun might refuse to let him into her room—an outcome he wasn't willing to accept. Women, Ye Feng thought, were meant to be cherished, and Lin Shiyun deserved nothing less.
"Alright, tonight's my treat. Barbecue on me!" Hao Jian declared, slapping Ye Feng's back in gratitude.
"You said it! Don't back out," Ye Feng laughed, his grin widening. He hadn't had a casual night out with friends in a long time and was looking forward to it.
"Are plus-ones allowed?" Ye Feng asked, flashing a mysterious smile.
"Sure, sure, bring whoever you want. I can handle one extra person," Hao Jian replied cheerfully.
"What are you three talking about? Plus-ones? What's going on?" Lin Shiyun's voice interrupted them as she walked into the classroom, her presence immediately drawing their attention.
"Hao Jian's treating us to barbecue tonight. Want to join us?" Ye Feng asked with a smile, handing her the bag she had just set down.
"Sure, let's go," Lin Shiyun said with a smile. She had never tried street barbecue before, and the idea of eating with Ye Feng intrigued her.
"By the way, you seem so happy. Did you do really well on the exam?" Ye Feng asked, placing her bag on the desk.
"Of course," Lin Shiyun replied with pride. With her academic skills, the difficulty of the monthly exam was barely a challenge.
"And you? How did you do?" she asked, glancing at him curiously.
"Don't worry. I'll definitely earn my way into your room," Ye Feng replied with a cheeky grin, leaning close to whisper in her ear. His warm breath sent a shiver down her spine, and her cheeks flushed bright red.
"Rogue," she muttered, swatting him away before taking her seat and pulling out her test paper to review her answers.
Later that evening, as plans were finalized, Ye Feng leaned toward Lin Shiyun and said, "Let's not go home after dinner. We can head back to my place afterward."
"Alright. We'll go home after we eat," Lin Shiyun replied sweetly, her eyes twinkling with anticipation. She was genuinely looking forward to the night out.
"You two are living together?" Hao Jian suddenly exclaimed, his voice loud enough to echo through the classroom.
The words were like a bombshell, and Lin Shiyun's face turned as red as a tomato.
"Are you trying to announce it to the whole world?" Ye Feng shot Hao Jian a glare, noticing the curious glances from their classmates. Among them was Zuo Fei's lackey, who immediately grabbed his phone.
"Hello, Young Master Zuo? It's Yang Kai. I've got some explosive news for you…"
