Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Brotherhood

Outside the Classroom

Hao Jian placed his arm around Ye Feng's shoulder and said, "Boss, did that scoundrel Zuo Fei cause you any trouble after you got home last night?"

Hao Jian was somewhat worried; knowing Zuo Fei's history of using violence on any guy who got close to Lin Shiyun, he and Fan Tong had even skipped breakfast, eager to make sure Ye Feng was alright. They were already deeply invested in their new boss.

"He did, actually," Ye Feng replied indifferently.

Fan Tong immediately moved closer, scrutinizing Ye Feng from head to toe, puzzled. "Really? That doesn't seem right—there's not a scratch on you." His words made Ye Feng feel that something was off.

Understanding his intention, Ye Feng gave him a good smack and said, "You fool, were you hoping to see your boss beaten to a pulp and sent to the hospital, so you could come visit with a nice fruit basket?"

"No, no. Zuo Fei wouldn't just have a friendly chat with you. I know him too well," Hao Jian said, sounding confident.

"It was just a bunch of thugs. I took care of them in a few moves," Ye Feng replied dismissively.

"Boss, you really are a legend! You must be some kind of hidden martial arts master! Teach me how to fight someday," Hao Jian said, eyes gleaming with admiration.

"Fat chance, buddy. With your build, better give it a rest." Fan Tong smirked, then turned to Ye Feng, saying, "Boss, don't waste your skills on him. Look at me—tall and lean, I'm clearly a natural for martial arts." He even flexed his scrawny arm to show off his lackluster muscles.

Ye Feng, slightly embarrassed by their praise, replied, "What hidden master? I've just trained more than most and keep in decent shape."

"Oh, so that's it. Boss, tell me where you live, and I'll join you for training," Hao Jian said with a sly grin, rubbing his hands together. Something about his expression made Ye Feng shiver, and he thought of his morning jogs with Lin Shiyun—time he could spend alone with her. But, since Hao Jian was his follower, Ye Feng reluctantly agreed.

Seeing this, Fan Tong chimed in, "Boss, no favoritism! If Hao Jian's going, I'm coming too."

"Fine. Tomorrow morning, meet me outside Villa No. 9 in the neighborhood near the school, and be there early," Ye Feng instructed.

"Got it, boss!" the two chorused.

When they realized Ye Feng lived in a villa near the school, they were a bit shocked. The prices in that area were sky-high, and he had bought it as soon as he transferred here. Their own families weren't poor, but they couldn't help feeling impressed.

"Our boss is a big shot!" Hao Jian exclaimed excitedly.

Fan Tong looked puzzled. "So what if he's a big shot?"

With a smug look, Hao Jian said, "Clearly, you don't get it. Ever heard of 'robbing the rich to give to the poor'?"

"Boss may be rich, but good luck 'robbing' him. You don't stand a chance," Fan Tong said, half-jokingly itching to punch Hao Jian.

"Right! Instead of robbing him, we'll just stick close and enjoy the good life." Hao Jian laughed.

Watching these two, Ye Feng felt a tinge of regret. How did I end up with these guys as my brothers?

"Alright, alright. You don't need to keep calling me 'Boss.' It makes us sound like gangsters. From now on, we're brothers. Just call me by my name," Ye Feng said.

The two of them were taken aback. They hadn't expected Ye Feng to acknowledge them as his brothers after they had willingly become his followers.

Fan Tong reached out a hand and said, "Alright, from now on, we're brothers."

Hao Jian placed his hand on top and echoed, "Brothers it is."

Ye Feng smiled, placing his hand on theirs. "Yes, brothers it is—through good times and bad."

"Through good times and bad," Hao Jian and Fan Tong repeated.

Ye Feng, since we're now brothers, there's something we haven't told you," Fan Tong said seriously.

"Out with it, then. I'm listening," Ye Feng replied.

"Here's the thing, Ye Feng. You asked how we knew so much, and we didn't answer before because we worried that once you knew who we were, you might treat us differently," Fan Tong said.

Ye Feng sighed internally. "Differently? Look at you two—no charm, no figure, and worst of all, you're both guys. What could I possibly want?"

Fan Tong continued, "My father is the mayor of Beihai City, and Hao Jian's father is the party secretary here. That's why we know a few things about the inner workings."

"So, you two are both second-generation officials." Ye Feng nodded, understanding how they knew so much.

"Exactly. So Ye Feng, you don't need to worry about Zuo Fei. With us here, he won't be able to stir up much trouble." Hao Jian grinned.

"In that case, let me be open with you, too. I'm the direct heir of the Ye family from Tianjing. As for Zuo Fei, let him bring it on—I can handle anything he throws at me," Ye Feng replied confidently.

This bombshell left Hao Jian and Fan Tong stunned. They had thought their backgrounds were impressive in Beihai, but Tianjing's Ye family? It was one of the top four families in Tianjing, a true titan.

Even in Beihai, few would dare cross paths with the Ye family, as its power stretched far beyond.

Fan Tong finally smiled and said, "Looks like we worried for nothing."

"But, Ye Feng, I heard that the Ye family heir had a reputation as a serious playboy," Hao Jian added.

"Yes, the Ye Feng of the past was just that—an irresponsible scoundrel. But now, he's not." Ye Feng's words carried a newfound strength, leaving the two impressed.
