Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The night air felt heavy as a lone student bolted through the dense forest, his breathing ragged as he struggled to stay one step ahead of his pursuers. Heart pounding, he pushed forward, his mind racing with thoughts of escape-anything to put distance between him and the shadows that pursued him.

But his foot caught on an exposed root, sending him sprawling to the ground. A sharp pain shot through his ankle, and he scrambled backward, terror filling his eyes as he saw Yuri approach. A sick, twisted smile played on Yuri's face as he crouched, extending his hand. Dark fluid glistened on Yuri's fingertips, the poison deadly and waiting to strike.

"Please... don't do this..." the fallen student stammered, pushing himself back, fear evident in every movement. But Yuri only chuckled, tilting his head.

"You should have realized by now," Yuri whispered, his tone chilling, "there's no place for mercy here."

Just as the student tried to scramble to his feet and run, he stumbled straight into Axel, who stood silent and ominous in the shadows. Before he could react, a surge of electricity jolted through him, Axel's hand gripping his arm like iron, sending volts tearing through his body. His muscles seized, his limbs paralyzed.

Yuri stepped closer, wiping his hand across his own cheek as he savored the moment. "Consider this your gift for the evening," he sneered, pressing his hand to the student's mouth, forcing him to ingest the deadly secretion.

The light in the student's eyes dimmed, his strength slipping away as Yuri and Axel released him, leaving him motionless on the ground. They exchanged a knowing look, satisfied.

Yuri knelt, sliding the bracelet off the fallen student's wrist, and handed it to Axel. "Another one down, 9 more to go" he muttered with a dark smirk.

Axel took it, looking down at the lifeless body with wide, excited eyes. "It's so cool, don't you think, Yuri?" he giggled softly. "I mean, my hands can zap people now. Last week, I'd never have guessed I could make someone twitch like a bug in a jar."

Yuri smirked, wiping his palms. "Not bad for a couple of 'ordinary' students, huh?"

"Yeah!" Axel grinned, bouncing on his heels. "You squeeze the life out, and I just-bzzz! Easy." He glanced up at Yuri, eyes shining with something unhinged. "We're kind of unstoppable."

"Stick with me, then," Yuri said, clapping a hand on Axel's shoulder. "We've got more 'souvenirs' to collect."

Yuki jolted awake, his heart pounding. In the distance, he heard the faint hum of an aircraft breaking the silence of the island. He scrambled to his feet, trying to gauge its location as he spotted a parachute drifting downward, close by. Supplies.

Adrenaline kicked in. He crouched down, shaking Asahi and Rainne awake, his voice hushed but urgent. "Guys, there's a supply drop, and it's close. We need to move before someone else gets to it."

Asahi blinked, rubbing his eyes. "Where?"

"Just over that ridge," Yuki pointed, the excitement tempered by caution. Rainne was already lacing up her shoes, nodding in agreement.

They quickly gathered their few belongings, and with one last look at their surroundings, they took off toward the drop, weaving carefully through the trees. The soft thudding of their footsteps and the rustling leaves were the only sounds as they sprinted toward the supplies, each of them silently hoping they'd reach it first.

The trio dashed through the forest, the sound of the aircraft fading but leaving an ominous calm behind. Yuki's heart raced with both excitement and fear, knowing the supplies were their best chance at surviving longer but also aware that others would be on the same mission. The terrain was rugged, thick with tangled roots and hidden dips, forcing them to leap and dodge to maintain their speed.

Asahi fell in line beside him, eyes focused and breathing steady, while Rainne trailed close, her footsteps light and cautious. Yuki glanced over his shoulder, relieved to see them both keeping pace, but he could sense the tension between them. They were no longer simply classmates-now, they were partners in a life-and-death game.

Just as they reached the ridge, they halted, crouching low to observe the clearing below. There it was: the supply crate, wrapped in dull green with a bright red marker blinking on top. They approached the supply crate in silence, their eyes wide with anticipation. Yuki carefully opened the lid, revealing an array of life-saving essentials: bags, food packets, water bottles, first aid kits, rope, a flashlight, a knife, and other basic tools. Yuki quickly sorted through the items, his hands moving with urgency, aware that every second could bring them closer to danger.

"Grab what you can," he whispered, his voice barely audible as he handed each item to Asahi and Rainne. They stuffed everything into the bags, working fast but quietly, aware that any noise could attract attention. Just as Rainne tightened the last strap, they heard the faint rustle of leaves nearby. Yuki tensed, his eyes darting to the trees as the sound grew louder.

"Go, now," Yuki urged, leading the way as they sprinted into the forest. They moved swiftly, ducking low and keeping close together, the weight of their bags a constant reminder of what they'd just secured-and what others might be willing to do to take it from them.

As they ran deeper into the forest, Yuki's mind raced, each step taking them further from the drop zone but closer to an unknown future.

As they ate in relief, the three began to unwind, the eerie stillness of their surroundings a sharp contrast to the chaos they had faced only moments before. With each bite, the reality of their bizarre situation faded just slightly, replaced by a sense of temporary calm.

After a while, Yuki broke the silence. "It's strange, isn't it?" he murmured, his gaze distant. "Feels like ages ago we were just... sitting in class."

Rainne nodded slowly, her eyes clouded with memories. "I was going over my notes. We had a quiz coming up." She gave a faint smile, one that quickly faded. "It was so ordinary. I barely remember the teacher's voice... everything just went blank after a while." She hugged her knees, staring at the food before her, lost in thought.

Asahi, usually quick with a joke, had gone quiet. He glanced at his friends, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "I was probably just being stupid, joking around as always," he muttered, though his tone was softer than usual. "I remember leaning my chair back just to see if I could get Yuki to laugh." His smile faded, and he shook his head. "And then... here we are."

Yuki sighed, feeling the weight of what they had lost. "I wish I could remember what happened. How we got from there to here. Feels like it just... vanished."

The silence grew heavier as each of them recalled the comfort of their old lives, each memory tinged with nostalgia and longing. The cheerful, chaotic classroom, the carefree laughter, even the endless assignments-they all felt like another lifetime. Now, everything was replaced by a cruel game, the dread of survival twisting each moment, stripping away the innocence of those once-simple days.

Ryu and Marielle moved quickly through the dense forest, their breaths coming in short gasps as they dodged low-hanging branches and uneven ground. Ryu held his backpack tightly, glancing over his shoulder to ensure Marielle kept pace. He could see the fear in her eyes, but she managed to keep up, her small frame darting through the trees with surprising agility.

Ryu moved through the forest with ease, leading Marielle at a brisk pace. He was tall and athletic, with a calm confidence that put her at ease, even in this terrifying situation. His tan skin and defined jawline gave him a strong, dependable look, though he was anything but boastful about it. Most of their classmates admired Ryu, not only for his looks but for his genuine kindness-a quality that seemed rare in these dire circumstances.

"Are you okay?" he asked, slowing down just enough for her to catch her breath.

Marielle nodded, but her voice trembled as she replied, "I'm fine... I just-still can't believe any of this is happening."

Ryu's face softened, and he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Hey, we're going to get through this. Together." He tried to keep his voice steady, though inside, a similar fear gnawed at him. As athletic and prepared as he was, this situation was unlike anything he had ever imagined.

As they paused to catch their breath, Marielle noticed the way his dark hair fell just slightly over his forehead, framing intense yet gentle eyes. His steady gaze offered her a sense of comfort she desperately needed. Even as exhaustion settled into his expression, he was composed and alert, determined to keep them both safe.

They had managed to find a supply drop earlier, taking food, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight. But they knew the supplies wouldn't last forever. Other students were out there, some desperate enough to attack for even a meager share of resources. He couldn't shake the dread that each moment of rest meant someone else closing in on them.

Marielle looked up at him, her timid gaze softening. "Thank you, Ryu. I don't think I could do this without you."

He gave her a quick smile, but his expression turned serious as he looked around. "We need to find somewhere safe to camp out, at least for tonight. We don't know who-or what-could be out here."

Marielle swallowed, her fear evident, but she nodded in agreement. Holding his hand, she let him lead them further into the woods, their shadows stretching across the dimming forest as the daylight faded around them.

"Let's move up this slope," he said, gesturing to a small rise where they'd have a better vantage point. "We can keep watch and plan our next steps." His voice was calm, a grounding force for Marielle, who nodded, trusting him completely.

With Ryu leading, the two continued, finding a secluded spot among the trees where they could finally rest. Despite the haunting quiet, she felt reassured by his presence.
