Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: Carrying the Project and Negotiating Cooperation

Jin Yangming never expected that his first date in university would be with the dormitory supervisor aunt. Yang Shichao and Guo Shaoqiang struggled to hold back their laughter, their faces turning red. Only Li Zhenan, unable to tolerate it, spoke up indignantly, "Chen Ge already said that everyone must participate in class activities. Shang Yanyan really has no sense of collectivity."

Chen Hanxing understood the situation. Shang Yanyan came from a well-off family, and certain restrictions that applied to Shen Youchu might not be as effective for her.

Before the class ended, Shang Yanyan had looked at Chen Hanxing's movie ticket number. She meant that if she was seated next to Chen Hanxing, she would go to the cinema, but if she had to sit next to any other boy in the class, it would feel like going to the cinema with the dormitory supervisor aunt. Unfortunately, tonight, it was Jin Yangming who had stumbled into that situation.

"This kind of person disregards the collective. Let's not include her in the future," Chen Hanxing said as he patted Jin Yangming's head to comfort him. "I've already advised that love isn't as good as games. Is the ocean of knowledge not broad enough, or are the games on your phone not stimulating enough? If that doesn't work, we can play cards. Why do we have to fall in love?"

Jin Yangming, still upset, looked up defiantly. "Chen Ge, you're too carefree, you don't understand what love really is."

"Alright, alright, I don't understand," Chen Hanxing said without continuing the argument. "How about we go to the internet café and play CS tomorrow? You can bring Lao Yang and Shaoqiang along."

In university, comforting a heartbroken guy usually involves cigarettes, alcohol, and games, though the effects don't last, and they'll still feel sad when the dust settles.

"I'm not going!" Jin Yangming said firmly, shaking his head. "Tomorrow I'll go to the library and finish this year's courses in two months. I'll also sign up for an English tutoring class and aim to get a 6 on the IELTS next year. I'm going to study abroad!"

This passionate speech even shocked Yang Shichao and Guo Shaoqiang. They hadn't expected a heartbroken guy to show such potential.

Chen Hanxing chuckled to himself. Youth is really something, they dare to talk big.

Apart from the unexpected drama with Jin Yangming, the class movie party had actually been quite effective. It broke down some barriers between the boys and girls in class, and the sense of distance was significantly reduced.

The next morning, Chen Hanxing was still sleeping in his bed when Jin Yangming came over to wake him up. "Chen Ge, it's already late, let's go to the internet café."

Chen Hanxing opened his eyes groggily and mumbled, "Aren't you supposed to be at the library?"

"It's Saturday. The library might be closed," Jin Yangming said, waking up Yang Shichao and Guo Shaoqiang.

Chen Hanxing nodded, but then realized something was off. How could a university library close on weekends? Jin Yangming was just looking for an excuse to go play games.

"You bastard, why don't you just say the school closed down too?" Chen Hanxing swore as he got up, ready to go out and take care of some business. The group packed up and headed to the Yiwu Goods Center.

...

The three internet café addicts, Yang Shichao, Guo Shaoqiang, and Jin Yangming, immediately headed for CS – Desert Dust. Chen Hanxing, on the other hand, went to meet Zhong Jiancheng, the manager of Shen Tong Express's Jiangling branch.

Recently, while working in the Youth League Committee, Chen Hanxing had discovered an important negotiating leverage.

The branch office was still busy. Chen Hanxing walked up to the second floor and knocked on the door. "Manager Zhong."

Zhong Jiancheng had a guest in his office, and when he looked up, he was surprised to see Chen Hanxing. The guest, a college student, also looked at Chen Hanxing with some curiosity.

Zhong Jiancheng said to the guest, "Meng Xuedong, this is the freshman who wants to replace you as the general agent for the College of Finance."

"What a coincidence?!" Chen Hanxing was also surprised to see Meng Xuedong. Zhong Jiancheng seemed to be enjoying the situation, likely wanting to watch the drama unfold.

"Chen Xuedi, I know you," Meng Xuedong said with a slight smile. He was tall and thin, wearing glasses and looking somewhat reserved. "I'm in the same dorm as Zhou Xiao."

Now it clicked for Chen Hanxing. He had figured out that Meng Xuedong must have seen him when Zhou Xiao was getting agitated. Meng Xuedong had likely witnessed the scene.

Chen Hanxing didn't want to waste time with unnecessary pleasantries. His development plan was clear: from the student council to becoming the express delivery agent, it was all a stepping stone, but one that was necessary.

"Oh, so you're Meng Xuedong. In that case, there's no need to be polite. We can skip the formalities. I came here to discuss cooperation with Manager Zhong. Do you want to step out for a moment?" Chen Hanxing said bluntly.

Meng Xuedong's face darkened. Chen Hanxing's boldness was exactly what he had heard about, and he wasn't pleased.

Zhong Jiancheng, who had been trying to watch the interaction, hadn't expected Chen Hanxing to confront Meng Xuedong so directly. In his years of working with university students, he had never encountered someone so straightforward. People always spoke politely, but this was different.

There's a tendency to sympathize with the weaker party, and seeing Meng Xuedong's flushed face, Zhong Jiancheng couldn't help but support Chen Hanxing. "This week, Xiao Meng managed to collect 70 packages per day, setting a new record. If you can't handle at least 100, then don't waste our time."

Chen Hanxing smiled. "Our school has nearly 6,000 students. Is 70 packages enough for the overall campus?"

Zhong Jiancheng was caught off guard. 70 packages were clearly insufficient for such a large student body, but Shen Tong's primary business wasn't on the university campus, so he hadn't really paid much attention.

At that moment, Meng Xuedong sneered, "Chen Xuedi, do you have any ideas on how to reach 100?"

Chen Hanxing didn't mind Meng Xuedong's tone. It was clear he had started the provocation, so it was only natural to respond. He calmly asked, "I'm the class president and the vice president of the external relations department. What positions do you hold, Meng Xuedong?"

Meng Xuedong scoffed, "Those don't matter."

Chen Hanxing smiled. "Who says they don't matter? At least I have the platform to promote the project within my class and department. That's an advantage."

"I've applied for a student entrepreneurship support project from the Youth League Committee. If it's successful, I'll be able to monopolize the express delivery business for the College of Finance. Do you have such resources, Meng Xuedong?"

Meng Xuedong sneered and said, "You're just boasting."

Chen Hanxing didn't try to explain. Instead, he looked at Zhong Jiancheng and said, "Since I've come this far, I wouldn't be wasting your time if it were a fake proposal. I'm just wondering if you're willing to spare five minutes to listen to my ideas."

Zhong Jiancheng was intrigued. The name "student entrepreneurship support project" sounded impressive, and he thought it wouldn't hurt to listen. He turned to Meng Xuedong and said, "Xiao Meng, why don't you leave for now? We'll contact you later."

Meng Xuedong didn't expect Zhong Jiancheng to actually believe it, but he had no way to argue back. He didn't have the connections at the Youth League Committee.

As he left, Chen Hanxing added, "Actually, Meng Xuedong's abilities aren't bad. If the College of Finance's business is handed to him, he can still manage it."

Zhong Jiancheng put down his lighter and asked, "And you?"

"Well, I'm not just here for one school. I'll be handling the business for at least four nearby colleges: Dongda, the College of Finance, the Medical College, and the Engineering College," Chen Hanxing said confidently.
