"Damn, getting free food and drinks only to run into their actual father."
Back home, Chen Hansheng couldn't help but complain a bit. Chen Zhaojun and Liang Meijuan had already gone to work, and the kitchen was so clean there wasn't a hint of grease or smoke.
His mom was ruthless; when she said she wouldn't cater to him, she meant it.
Chen Hansheng planned to take a shower first and then sleep soundly for the entire morning. He used to be busy from dawn till dusk, but now, thanks to being reborn, he finally had some hard-earned leisure time and intended to make the most of it.
He slept until 10:30 in the morning when an urgent phone ring woke him from his dreams.
In his dreams, Chen Hansheng was still in 2019, but when he opened his eyes, it was once again the scorching summer of 2002.
"Who is it?"
Chen Hansheng walked over and picked up the phone.
"It's your mom!"
Liang Meijuan said unceremoniously, "We're all going to your grandma's for lunch today. You won't see them much after you go to college, so you should visit them more before you leave."
"Got it."
Chen Hansheng hung up the phone and sat on the edge of the bed, both to clear his drowsiness and to recall the family situation of his grandparents.
As he thought, Chen Hansheng couldn't help but laugh to himself: "This feels like something out of a web novel, merging memories bit by bit. But considering that both timelines are me, how do you even calculate that?"
…
Chen Hansheng's grandma lived in the countryside. His grandpa was an elementary school teacher, and his grandma was a housewife who also managed a few acres of farmland. Chen Hansheng's paternal grandparents passed away early, so he had a close relationship with his maternal grandparents.
After a half-hour bus ride, Chen Hansheng arrived at his grandparents' house. This place would become a development zone in the future, but now it was shaded by lush green trees, and golden wheat fields stretched as far as the eye could see, swaying with a "rustling" sound under the hot summer breeze.
"Grandpa, Grandma, I need some water!"
Chen Hansheng shouted as he entered the courtyard like usual. The main room was full of people: his uncle's family, his second uncle's family, and his second aunt's family were all there, eating watermelon.
"Look, the college student is here,"
his second aunt said with a smile.
Chen Hansheng grinned. His two uncles and the cousins from his second aunt's family hadn't gotten into college, so while others could mention the term "college student," Chen Hansheng would intentionally avoid showing any excitement or expectations for college life.
He picked up a watermelon slice and ate it in big bites, not caring about the red juice dripping onto him, making his second aunt chuckle, "You're a college student now, but you still eat like Pigsy."
