The Unseen Truths
That evening, Li Mei sat alone in her courtyard, the evening sun casting long shadows on the ground. The decision weighed heavily on her mind, and she found herself staring at the garden where her herbs grew. She had always felt a deep connection to the earth, to the plants that nourished and healed. Could she really hand that connection over to someone else, someone who might not understand her vision? She didn't want to become just another merchant in a sea of similar vendors, selling mass-produced goods to the highest bidder.
As she sat in contemplation, Auntie Lu appeared at the gate, her weathered face lined with age and experience. The elderly woman had been a friend and mentor to Li Mei, and she could see that something was troubling her.
"Something weighs heavily on your heart, child," Auntie Lu said softly, sitting beside Li Mei. "I see it in your eyes. What has happened?"
Li Mei sighed, her thoughts spilling out. She explained the situation with Zhao Wei, Madame Lian's proposal, and the dilemma she faced. "I want to expand, Auntie Lu. I do. But I'm not sure if I can do so without losing who I am."
Auntie Lu listened patiently before speaking. "It's true that expansion comes with its own dangers. There are always those who will try to take advantage of someone who has something valuable. But you must remember, Li Mei, that the heart of your work lies in your hands, not in the hands of others. You must be careful who you trust, but never lose sight of what makes your remedies so special."
Li Mei nodded slowly, the weight of Auntie Lu's words sinking in. "But what if I could help more people? What if I could create something greater than I ever imagined?"
Auntie Lu smiled gently. "Helping more people doesn't always mean losing yourself in the process. You have the strength, the knowledge, and the heart to create something truly lasting. If you choose to expand, do it on your terms, with patience and care."
