As we chatted, the ring was fully restored. And Midnight finally summoned the next opponents. Namely Katsuki and his opponent Kinoko Komori.
- One... Two... Begin!
The girl just had time to wave her hand and start creating mushrooms in the way of our explosive guy, and Katsuki, Katsuki had already put one hand behind his back and let out a blast wave from his hand to disperse himself.
- Die!
A short flight and the second hand crashes precisely into the girl's solar plexus, making her bend double and no longer able to continue the fight.
- The fight is over! The winner is Katsuki Bakugo! Boy, you could be a little more gentle! You're fighting a girl after all!
- Hmph!
- What's that supposed to mean?
But Katsuki didn't bother to answer anything and just threw himself into the stands with another blast.
- Rude...
Midnight shook her head. I, on the other hand, listened to the stands and grinned. Since the main discussion now was about the battle cry of our explosive guy. Namely, is it honourable for a hero to shout 'Die' during an attack?
- Katsuki...
I cast a glance at him.
- Yeah?
- You should think about your shouting during an attack....
- You don't like it?!
- I don't give a fuck at all...
I shrugged my shoulders.
- But the audience... After the festival, go to the academy's website and read what the audience will write about your performance. I'm sure many will express doubt that such a cry is suitable for a hero.
- Tz...
I just nodded at that reaction.
- Now, we're down to the last fight of the first round of bouts! And first, I'd like to challenge a beautiful maiden to the ring! Momo Yaoyorozu! Representative of Class 1-A! And the class leader!
Momo stepped into the ring and Midnight gave her a curt nod.
- And now her opponent! No less beautiful! A student from Class 1-B! Yui Kodai!
The girl entered the ring.
- Let the final battle of the first round begin! On your marks! Attention! Fight!
Yui rushed towards Momo, but Momo stayed in place and two seconds later she had a metal pole in her hands, with which she sharply hit her opponent.
- What?!
It was Momo who didn't hold back when her pole simply shrank to the size of a toy pole when it touched Yui's body. However, the confusion didn't stop Momo from bouncing off her opponent while taking a sliding block with her fist.
Bouncing back she created another pole, and tried to strike again, but the result would be the same.
- Hmm... So a reduction quirk?
Momo's voice was clearly heard by everyone in the stadium, a new hero? Now instead of the barrier that was abandoned, it's instead amplifying sounds?
- So we'll proceed as follows...
Momo quickly approached the opponent and the two girls began to confront each other.
- Yeah...
I shook my head.
- Is there something you don't like?
I cast a glance at Tsuyu and grinned.
- Well, how can I tell you...
- Tell it like it is.
- I wish this fight was less traumatic and took place in the dirt....
- Pervert.
Except that she herself, after my words, cast a thoughtful glance at the girls who were demonstrating quite good hand-to-hand combat skills.
- Tz... and why did you say that? Now I'm imagining how it would look like in other circumstances....
- Well...
I shrugged.
- You know what they say... Husband and wife are the same Satan.
- Ahem...
A suspicious look was thrown at me.
- No, it's not a proposal, just a demonstration that you and I are very much alike in personality.
- ...
- Don't look at me like that. I told you, I'm proposing at the prom.
- Hmph.
Meanwhile, the parity in the duel gradually disappeared, the initiative went to Momo, who was a little more experienced. Slowly but surely, the Head Girl began to squeeze her opponent, who with each passing minute was giving up more and more ground.
And then... the finale. Momo knocked out her opponent with another punch.
- The winner! Momo Yaoyorozu! Now I ask all winners to come down to the ring for the draw!
And we're down...
- Now, you'll take one balloon out of this box with a number written on it in paint. The two people with the same number will face each other in the second round. Come on up.
Well, we got our balloons out.
- So not in the finals?
I looked at Tsuyu who was holding a balloon with the number three on it.
- Yes. Let's show what we can do.
- Naturally.
- So, the first ones to fight in the ring will be the ones who pulled out the number one balloons. And that's--
Midnight looked at everyone carefully and nodded after seeing the correct balls.
- Shadow Iida and Katsuki Bakugo. Please all but the named ones to leave the ring.
We all went back to our seats, while Katsuki and Iida stayed there and waited for Midnight to decide to start the fight.
She went to the other heroes in charge of this stage and talked to them about something.
This pause lasted for about ten minutes, after which Midnight returned to the ring.
- So, the administration of Yuei Academy has decided not to renew the barrier, so I would like to address all the students who made it to the second round. If your attack threatens the spectators, the heroes will of course prevent any unwanted consequences, but you will be disqualified. Is that clear?
There was a scattered chorus of agreement from the podium.
- Good, and now I am pleased to announce the start of the second round of bouts! Katsuki Bakugo, our explosive hero rushing at the enemy with the cry: 'Die!', against the restrained and emphatically polite Iida Tenyi! I'm expecting a beautiful fight! A fair fight! Fight!
Midnight lowered her hand sharply, urging her opponents to fight.
- Die!
Katsuki immediately directed himself with a blast towards Iida, and he abruptly ducked to the side before attempting to reach his opponent from the side.
However, he had to move aside again as Katsuki had his other arm pointed at Iida and the blast that came off of it could easily throw him out of the arena.
- Come on! Die! Die! Fuck you! Die!
With each shout, the explosive guy sent blast waves towards his opponent, or rather where he was before.
- What's he doing?
Momo watched this deadly dance in surprise. Although nobody would let Iida die, and the explosions were not so dangerous for him. A couple of burns, fractures... all of which would be easily repaired by the Healing Girl.
- He's on his way to victory.
- Bakugo?
Mina was greatly surprised by my words, and the others with the exception of Tsuyu and Shoto looked at me with incomprehension.
- He's the one...
- He's wasting his strength for nothing!
- I don't agree...
I shook my head as I watched Katsuki send out explosive waves over and over again. But I did not have time to say anything, Momo sharply covered her mouth with her hands.
- Momo?
- Mina, look at Katsuki... don't you think he's not as emotional as he wants to show? Remember the intonation he usually shouts with and compare it to how it is now.
I smiled encouragingly at our headman.
- Especially since he's never had such a bad habit of shouting at EVERY attack he makes. Clearly a distraction.
Now everyone was watching Katsuki closely, trying to figure out what Momo was talking about.
- It's also worth noting that all of his blasts are much weaker than they could be. Just think back to his training...
- Well, is he just tired?
That question was asked by Mina with extreme uncertainty.
- Tired?
Momo grinned sadly.
- I should be so tired... Each explosion is roughly equal in strength to the previous one. Each one is aimed at a specific place and only slightly 'misses' Iida.
- I'm telling you, tired...
Mina's voice sounded more confident this time.
- Yes?
Momo grinned wryly.
- And Iida doesn't have time to attack or force the engines for nothing, right? Because Katsuki is tired....
Momo's voice was unusually sarcastic. And everyone present finally wondered what was going on in the ring.
- And you know what he's doing?
- He's using your method, Mina....
- А?
- Iida's not that good at running yet, and it's hard for him to manoeuvre all the time. And Katsuki, Katsuki destroys the top layer of the ring while doing so, causing him more problems. Already there weren't many traffic routes left for Iida to accelerate on, and what would happen in a few more minutes?
Now everyone was completely dumbfounded.
- But after all... it's Katsuki...''
Mina said in an extremely helpless voice.
- Aha and it seems he's quite capable of tactical thinking....
Meanwhile, Katsuki had already finished destroying the covering of the ring and was now looking at Iida who was frozen in the corner on the only piece of cement left intact.
- You...
Iida looked at Katsuki with bewilderment.
- You're trapped...
There was a victorious grin on Katsuki's face.
- That's not all...
The engines on Iida's legs began to heat up.
- Like I'm going to let you! DROP!!!
This blast wave was much more powerful than the previous ones, but Katsuki directed it not at Iida at all, but into the ring's covering.
Boom!
The splinters and dust were really bad.
- Fuck!
Iida's voice sounded just as loud, but none of the heroes even thought to blow the dust away.
A couple of minutes, and all the dust has settled.
Katsuki standing in all the same place, part of the ring just destroyed, and Iida, lying on the rubble and his leg clearly broken...
- Ahem... Midnight, I think we should disqualify Katsuki Bakugo. He seems to have overdone it a lot...
- Ahem... I was closest to the fight and I see no reason to disqualify him.
- How so?!
Iida was indignant to the core and was even able to voice a question, though he could only grit his teeth before.
- It's simple...
Midnight licked her lips after looking at Katsuki. I'm sure at that moment his trousers became extremely tight.
- The last attack, although extremely powerful, was directed into the ring. Bakugo had minimised the impact on his opponent and if Tenya hadn't twitched, he would have just stayed on a piece of the ring unconnected to the main ring space. This would have completely robbed him of his manoeuvre and forced him to move to the main field without the aid of a quirk and at that point he would have been caught by his opponent. And Bakugo would have had enough of even the weakest blast to just toss him out of the ring.
- Okay, Sotrigolova?
- Hmm... while you were arguing, I've watched the tape, or rather that section of it with the last attack, and I have to agree with Midnight.
- Well...
Mick was forced to agree.
- The winner is Katsuki Bakugo!
