Chereads / Beastsworn: The Awakening Pact / Chapter 48 - XLVIII. The First Accord

Chapter 48 - XLVIII. The First Accord

The gathering was unlike anything the Wilds had ever seen. In a clearing beneath the ancient boughs of the Eldertree, representatives of humans and beasts assembled. The air buzzed with nervous energy as the leaders of tribes, villages, and beast enclaves took their places.

Kael stood at the center, flanked by his companions. Kaela was at his side, her ethereal presence drawing the attention of all. The silver stag stood to her left, its antlers glinting with light, while Thane, Seris, and Eryndra formed a semi-circle behind him.

Kael took a deep breath and stepped forward.

"We are here because we all want the same thing—peace," he began, his voice firm but calm. "The gods divided us for centuries, pitting humans against the Wilds. But they are gone now, and we have the chance to forge something new. Together."

A low murmur rippled through the crowd.

One of the human chieftains, a grizzled man with a scar across his cheek, raised his voice. "And what guarantee do we have that the beasts won't turn on us the moment we lower our guard?"

Before Kael could respond, Kaela stepped forward, her presence commanding. Her voice resonated in the minds of all present. The Wilds have no desire for war, but mistrust runs deep. This will take time—and effort from both sides.

The silver stag nodded. We are bound by balance. When one side suffers, so does the other. Let us start with small steps. A shared pact to protect the Wilds and its inhabitants, regardless of their form.

The chieftain frowned but nodded reluctantly. "It's a start."

Symbol of Unity

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the first accord was forged. Representatives from both sides signed a simple agreement: no harm would come to those who respected the Wilds and its creatures.

To commemorate the moment, Kael and Kaela planted a seed at the base of the Eldertree. Kaela's paw rested on the soil, and a vibrant sapling sprang forth, its leaves shimmering with an otherworldly light.

"This will be our symbol," Kael said, looking at the gathered crowd. "A reminder that peace is something we nurture, day by day."

The crowd dispersed with cautious optimism. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it was a beginning.

A Personal Journey

As the others prepared to leave, Kael lingered beneath the Eldertree. Kaela sat beside him, her gaze fixed on the sapling.

You've done well, Kael, she said. But your journey is far from over.

Kael sighed, leaning back against the tree. "I know. There's so much left to fix. So many scars to heal."

Kaela turned to him, her eyes glowing faintly. You are not alone in this. The Wilds will guide you, as will those who stand by your side.

Kael smiled faintly. "I just hope I'm strong enough."

Kaela's voice was gentle. Strength isn't about never falling. It's about rising every time you do.

Echoes of the Future

That night, Kael dreamed of a future where the Wilds and humanity thrived together—a world where children like Lior grew up without fear, where beasts and humans worked side by side to protect their shared home.

He woke with a renewed sense of purpose. The road ahead would be long and difficult, but for the first time, he felt certain that they were heading in the right direction.

Kaela's voice echoed in his mind as he rose to face the dawn. The Wilds chose you for a reason, Kael. Now, it's time to show the world why.
