Chapter 19 - Training with Nyx

The sun had barely begun to rise as Deon met Nyx at the training grounds, the morning air crisp and cool. Nyx was already there, standing tall and poised, as if he had been waiting for hours. His eyes glinted with determination, the early morning light catching the sharp edge of his gaze. It was clear—he was ready for the day's training, and he expected Deon to match that intensity.

Deon arrived, his boots crunching on the gravel as he approached Nyx. His pets—Ingius, Zephyros, and Vira—were all already at their stations, ready to begin their rigorous exercises. Deon had spent weeks training with them, but today was different. Today, he would be training with Nyx himself. The thought of working alongside the legendary Beast Tamer stirred something deep within Deon—a mix of excitement and nervousness. This was a new level of training, and Deon had no intention of letting Nyx down.

"Ready?" Nyx asked, his voice calm but commanding.

Deon nodded, determination setting in. "I'm ready."

Nyx's lips curled into a small smile, and he gestured toward the training arena. "We'll start with something simple. I want to see how well you work with your team. You've got strong pets, Deon, but your bond with them is just as important as their power. Today, you'll test that bond. Let's see if you can truly communicate with them as a team."

Deon's mind raced. He knew the importance of teamwork, but it was one thing to know it intellectually and another to put it into practice. He looked to his pets, each of them standing tall and waiting for his command. Ingius, with his wings flickering in the early light, Zephyros, always light on his feet, and Vira, her expression calm and focused.

Nyx continued, his voice cutting through the silence. "I'll be running interference. You need to work with your pets to counter my attacks. You have to stay in sync. Don't hesitate."

Deon took a deep breath, then called out, "Ingius, Zephyros, Vira, let's go!"

The dragon, air-type, and healer instantly reacted. Ingius flapped his massive wings, causing the ground to rumble beneath him. Zephyros, quick as a flash, soared into the air, his wings slicing through the morning breeze. Vira raised her hands, her calm demeanor belying the power that was building within her.

From the other side of the arena, Nyx stood motionless, his eyes scanning the battlefield. Without warning, he raised his hand, and suddenly, a barrage of fiery projectiles erupted from the ground, headed straight toward Deon's team.

"Vira!" Deon shouted.

Vira immediately responded, her hands glowing with healing magic. She extended her arms toward the incoming flames, and a shimmering barrier of energy appeared in front of the team. The fireballs collided with the barrier, sending shockwaves through the air. The barrier flickered but held firm.

"Good," Nyx called, observing the teamwork. "Now, Zephyros, can you take care of the next step?"

Deon turned to Zephyros, who was already darting through the air, weaving in and out of Nyx's attacks. The wind-type pet's speed was unmatched, and he was able to dodge the incoming fireballs with ease. Zephyros shot through the air like a blur, his wings creating gusts of wind that threw off Nyx's aim.

"Perfect, Zephyros! Keep it up!" Deon cheered.

But Nyx wasn't done. He summoned a vortex of wind, lifting a few rocks from the ground and hurling them at the team. The force was enough to send the objects speeding through the air with incredible force, aimed directly at Ingius.

"Ingius!" Deon yelled.

Ingius, his body glowing with fiery intensity, immediately reacted. He flared his wings and flew up into the air, releasing a wave of flame that charred the rocks before they could reach him. The intense heat melted the projectiles into harmless slag, but Nyx wasn't backing down.

"Good, Ingius. But can you handle this?" Nyx challenged.

Suddenly, Nyx raised both hands, summoning a massive thunderstorm in the sky. Lightning crackled across the clouds, and before Deon could even react, bolts of lightning shot down toward Ingius.

"Zephyros, cover Ingius!" Deon shouted.

Zephyros darted forward, his wings creating a gust of wind that deflected the incoming lightning strikes. Each bolt of lightning was redirected by the wind, but the effort took a toll on Zephyros' energy. The air-type pet began to slow, and Deon could see that the strain was starting to wear on him.

"Zephyros, fall back!" Deon commanded.

Zephyros obeyed immediately, retreating to a safe distance. Deon turned to Vira, who was standing by, ready to help.

"Vira, heal Zephyros!" Deon ordered.

Vira's hands glowed with healing magic, and a wave of soothing energy washed over Zephyros, restoring his strength. Deon knew that this was the critical moment—they had to finish this training strong.

"Ingius, one last push! Firestorm!" Deon commanded.

Ingius let out a fierce roar as he summoned all the fire within him. The dragon unleashed a massive stream of fire, combining it with the remaining lightning energy that Zephyros had redirected. The result was an enormous storm of fire and electricity, a devastating combination that raced toward Nyx.

Nyx smirked, impressed. He raised his hand, and suddenly, the storm seemed to reverse. With a snap of his fingers, he dissipated the flames and redirected the lightning, but not without exerting effort.

"Not bad, Deon," Nyx said, lowering his hands as the battle ended. "You've come a long way in a short time. Your team is in sync, and you've got the right instincts. But there's always room to improve."

Deon, panting from the intense battle, smiled and wiped the sweat from his brow. "Thanks, Nyx. That was intense. But we're not done yet. We're going to be ready for the Blaze Guardians, no matter what they throw at us."

Nyx nodded, his eyes gleaming with approval. "I believe it. But remember, Deon—strength is not just about the power of your pets. It's about understanding each other. That's what makes you a true Beast Tamer."

Deon looked over at his pets—Ingius, Zephyros, and Vira—who were all resting and recovering from the intense training. He knew Nyx was right. The bond between a Beast Tamer and their pets was the foundation of all strength.

"We'll keep training," Deon said with a determined smile. "We won't let up. We'll win this tournament together."

And with that, Deon and Nyx continued their training, knowing that they were one step closer to defeating the Blaze Guardians and proving their strength as the best team in the tournament. The journey wasn't over—it was just beginning.
