4 days left and so much to do. Now that everyone was invited, we needed to secure enough food for them all, and set up the tent city. Again, the Agency helped with all of this.
We wouldn't magic food for all the citizens of the kingdom, there wasn't enough of us for that. It would be much simpler to cook the normal way. For that, we needed to get all the cooks we could find together, and set them all to work in the kitchens of the castle.
We made sure the food would be bought at appropriate prices from the few farmers we had, and made deals with them for the wedding.
I was appointed to find a band to play music during the festivities. That was a very bad idea. I found my favorite band's manager's phone number and called them.
"Yes hi hello, this is Tina, fairy godmother for the future queen of Adora. I'm calling because we have a very small little problem here. The future king and queen are getting engaged in 4 days and we have no band to play for the festivities. Any chance you have someone available in such a short time?"
It was a hit or miss, and it missed. A few times. Sadly, neither Lamb of God nor Avatar were available, but after a few more calls I had a nice surprise.
For a hefty amount of money, we could have our band. Hell Yeah was touring nearby and could make a detour for us.
I needed to find someone else for the wedding, but had a feeling they might not ask me again anyway.
3 days left and the real fun part began. We winged ones, fairies in majority but not only, were to decorate the city. It was a magnificent, glorious, mess.
Imagine a small army of winged creatures with me at their head. They fly around with white and cream coloured ribbons, get entangled in them, right themselves, get tangled again, and finally manage to hang them from trees and buildings. Now add flowers and bouquets to the mix. Thank fuck we weren't in charge of the ice sculptures…
The city itself joined in. When they saw us flying with our ribbons, they brought out their own to decorate the shops. The coffee shops added flowers to their décor, the bakers made heart shaped breads, the bars didn't do much but were full for the next few days.
It was a once in a lifetime thing. Well, hopefully twice in a lifetime, if the wedding happened.
The camaraderie that filled our streets was beautiful to behold. Everyone smiled, looking forward to the grand spectacle of the decade. There would be vendors, there would be mead, there would be games and dances and much rejoicing. It felt like a fantasy novel, it also looked like it, and my nerdy heart was full.
