Chapter 77 - Passageway outside the office building

"You!"

Brian raised his head and looked Wilfred in the eye, hearing the surprise in his tone. He gave her a reassuring look and then patted the other person's arm, motioning for her to use it quickly.

Pursing his lips, Wilfred understood that with people around him it was not the time to ask questions. He took a deep breath, put the empty bottle of medicine in his coat pocket, and firmly grasped the full syringe.

Then he lowered the glove slightly with his left hand. The slight pull appeared to involve the wound inside. Immediately another layer of cold sweat erupted from his forehead. Suddenly, the wound on his wrist was covered with fierce exposed red lines.

Wilfred stared at the wound on his wrist that was growing and beginning to rot. He relaxed his arm slightly, vaguely lifted the injection needle, inserted it into his wrist, and injected all the liquid from the syringe.

"Eh~~"

Feeling the pain gradually disappear from the wound, Wilfred immediately breathed a sigh of relief and felt relaxed throughout his body. Then he stuffed the injection needle into his pocket and shot a grateful look at Brian.

Brian saw that the other party had used the injection and his expression improved a lot. He felt a little relieved, thought about it, and quickened his pace a bit, walking to the front of the team.

After making his way through the crowd, Wilfred spotted Tracy in front. He quickened his pace and, when he reached his side, he asked him in a low voice:

"Do you know if the rest of the people have plans to go somewhere else, or will they all follow the same route as us?"

"Huh?" Tracy looked at Brian, who was suddenly close to her, and asked with some confusion, "Why are you asking so suddenly?"

"Uh... I only ask out of curiosity."

After hearing this answer, Tracy suddenly showed an expression of 'Do you think I'd believe it?', but since Brian didn't want to say it, he didn't delve into it anyway.

"Other teams certainly won't follow the same path as us. Otherwise, if someone here makes a noise and alerts the infected, the teams behind will fall into a trap!"

After receiving the answer, Brian nodded imperceptibly, feeling a little relieved. After thanking him, he turned around and returned to the team.

Tracy turned her head toward Brian, squinting for a moment before looking straight ahead. I knew Brian's curious inclinations, but I didn't treat him like a child. Although the question seemed casual, Tracy considered it carefully.

After pondering for a moment and realizing that there were few clues to a clear conclusion, he sighed lightly. It was not the time to be distracted. Aware of his mission, he turned his attention to guiding the group to the safe quarantine zone. As they advanced, he thought that he would have time later to resolve any doubts.

After the team walked down the street for more than ten minutes, Tracy suddenly raised her right hand, signaling everyone behind her to stop immediately, and then quickly crouched down.

The people behind her became nervous when they saw this. They immediately stopped and crouched down while looking down at the front of the street.

In front of them, an apartment building appeared to have been cut in half. The lower half was still standing, but the upper half, shattered, had collapsed into the street. Everyone watched as debris blocked the road, a large chunk of concrete and metal obstructing its path forward. The crack in the office building, formed at an odd angle, indicated that the structure had collapsed violently, making it difficult to pass through that area.

And in front of the ruins, there was a dense crowd of countless infected people, each of them with their heads down, emitting low roars with their mouths and remaining motionless in the street.

If Tracy hadn't been discerning and hadn't noticed the situation that was coming, even if they stopped, they would definitely be discovered by the infected people there when they approached.

Seeing that the road ahead was blocked by infected people and ruins, people began to look restless. Some people with children and even adults directly covered their children's mouths, for fear of making a noise and alerting infected people who were ahead.

Everyone turned their attention to Tracy, who was leading the way, hoping that the other party could point them to another path forward.

Sensing the unease of the crowd, a soldier approached Tracy and asked in a low voice, "Captain, what should we do next? Do we need to change the route?"

"No!"

After hearing the soldier's words, Tracy immediately shook her head and said, "If we want to get there safely, we need to follow the original plan the rest of the way, none of us know if there are more infected people in another location, so we have to get through this barrier in front of us."

"But..." The soldier looked at Tracy's determined gaze and hesitated for a moment, but still asked loudly, "Then where should we go now?"

Looking at the infected people and the ruins in front of her, Tracy didn't immediately respond to the other party's words, but instead looked for other possibilities to move forward, but after looking at him for a while, she also found that there was no chance. The number of infected people was too large.

So he decidedly abandoned the possibility of street traffic, turned his eyes to the buildings on both sides, and began to search quickly. When he saw an office building, his eyes suddenly lit up.

Because on the tenth floor of an office building and saw a construction tunnel hanging outside the building. It seemed to be to facilitate movement between the two buildings. The tunnel stretched all the way inside, just enough to reach the office unit on the other side of the ruins.

Without hesitation, Tracy raised her hand, pointed to the office building, and said to the crowd behind her, "Let's go to that office building. Let's go through the ruins from there!"

With a clear route, the team moved again. This time after seeing the infected in front, they all moved extremely slowly.

Although it took a relatively long time, they successfully made it to the door of the office building safely.

Looking at the empty corridor through the glass door, Tracy made an action gesture, took the rifle, reached out to push the revolving door, and several soldiers entered, then searched around to confirm that it was safe, After gesturing to the people outside, they all entered the lobby of the office building one by one.

Then the team began to climb the stairs, all following the same pace. However, they did not stop to clean the entire floor; they concentrated only in the area near them. If they found a closed door, they would open it quickly, and if there was a lone infected person, they would sneak up on it. They would use knives or daggers to stab the victim in the back, making sure to act quickly and accurately to avoid any unnecessary noise or attraction.

By the time they reached the tenth floor, it had already taken almost an hour. Although they waited for several minutes on each floor, no one complained, after all, this was also related to the safety of their lives.

Tracy opened the door through the building's outer hallway. The outer glass appeared to have been broken by someone, revealing a huge gap. The cold wind entered the room, dragging everything inside.

He walked to the hole and discovered that the railing of the passage leading to the hole was broken. When she stepped on the iron pedal, she suddenly felt the passage swaying back and forth from a gust of wind, which frightened her. He reached out and grabbed onto the railing beside him.

Then, Tracy looked down and saw the infected densely clustered in the base, while on the other side of the ruins there were only scattered infected. It seemed that most of the infected had been trapped by the debris and were unable to advance beyond that point, preventing them from moving towards the team.

After confirming that there was no danger on the other side, she immediately withdrew her gaze, turned to the crowd behind her, and said in a trembling tone, "You guys... You wait here first, I'll go ahead to explore the path."

Then Tracy looked straight ahead, couldn't help swallowing, grabbed onto the railings on both sides, and trudged forward.

Several soldiers waiting in the room couldn't help but laugh at the sight of Tracy's appearance and quickly looked away, for fear of bursting into laughter later.

Tracy, who was in the hallway outside the building, saw that nothing was wrong if she took a few steps forward, so she couldn't help but start picking up her pace.

Although he has a slight fear of heights, it is not particularly serious. Also, there are railings on both sides to protect her and she didn't look down the whole time. It took him a while to get to the building at the other end.

Standing on her heels, Tracy breathed a sigh of relief, then lifted her head and looked through the glass into the building.

Well... This is a conference room. There is no one in it and there are no infected people. However, unlike the other side, the glass on the exterior wall is intact, so you need to remove this layer of glass first.

Hearing the whistling of the wind in her ears, Tracy looked at the group of infected people below, took a deep breath, raised the rifle in her hand, pointed the butt of the gun at the corner of the glass on the outer wall, and broke with difficulty.

The exterior glass of a building like this is basically made of double-layered tempered glass. It is simply impossible to destroy it by hitting the central part manually, so you have to discover its weak points.

"Crag!"

When the butt of the gun hit the glass in the corner, a loud noise was heard, and suddenly the entire glass shattered, turning into a cloud of shards. The pieces fell heavily from the tenth floor, hitting the heads of the infected in the street.
