Chapter 10 - Problem solving

The next day.

Brian and Sarah walked out of the lakeside cabin where they had been staying for a long time with their backpacks, Angela and Barton reluctantly waved their arms at the fence behind them and waved goodbye to them loudly.

Kenneth walked alongside them and looked at the assault rifle hanging over Brian's shoulder, a gleam of greed in his eyes.

There is indeed a gun shop in town, but there was an explosion on the day the plague broke out, and all the guns and ammunition were destroyed. If not, I wouldn't be envious of the rifle in Brian's hand.

"Hehe, this guy really is predictable."

Looking at the greedy look on Kenneth's face, Brian sneered inwardly, knowing that the other party must be trying to take this opportunity to take away his assault rifle.

But he didn't give it away, he just thought that he would have to teach this guy a deep lesson after a while, and let him know the end of greed.

After walking for a while, the three of them passed the bridge where the corpses were piled up. At this moment, the entire bridge had already become a breeding ground for fungi. The fungi used the corpses to cultivate germs, and lumps of bacteria were attached to the corpses on the bridge. The expanse of it looks extremely disgusting from a distance.

  On the outskirts of town.

Brian pulled out a hand-drawn map of the city from his arms, with small squares drawn on it, and each square was written with the category of the location in the city.

At the moment, most of the squares with the words supermarkets and restaurants on the map have a red cross marked with a red pen, meaning that the place has been looted or destroyed by an explosion in a disaster.

As his fingers moved continuously on the map, Brian said, "The population of the city itself is not large, so there aren't many supermarkets or convenience stores. Also, the survivors who are still alive must be collecting supplies, so the supplies inside are running out, I'm afraid."

Moving his fingers over the map, he slowly stopped at an unfamiliar area on the northern outskirts of the city. He pondered and said, "I know there's a warehouse nearby, which used to be used to store building materials. There's a small foraging area that we can go to and get what we want, and it just so happens that there's a road that goes straight to Dallas."

  "What?"

Kenneth looked at the place where Brian was pointing with his crazy eyes. You should know that they are located on the southern outskirts of the village. If you want to go north, you will have to go through the entire village, he said dissatisfiedly. :"Just kidding, do you know how dangerous this is and how food can be placed in the place where construction materials are stored? Brian, listen to me, there must be some leftovers in the convenience store we searched last time, it should be enough to eat now, it is safer to come back here and go to Dallas."

But Brian shook his head and ruthlessly rejected Kenneth's suggestion, saying, "No, we must go there."

  "you!"

Kenneth glared angrily at the angry boy in front of him, although he really wanted that assault rifle, he didn't want to lose his life because of it.

So he decided not to disguise himself anymore. Originally, he wanted to let the two little devils be porters once, and after collecting the food, he would take their firearms and food. Now it seems that there is no need for this.

He raised the gun directly to Brian's head and said, "Little boy, I don't care if you are really stupid or not, I know you are very smart and I'm afraid you have guessed my thoughts before you said you would leave.

  "You started so early?"

But who knew that Brian wasn't scared. Instead, a smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. He raised his hands and said, "I thought you would at least wait until we've collected the food."

"Stop talking nonsense!" Looking at Brian, who was not a coward in front of him,

Kenneth suddenly felt a little uneasy, but when he looked at the gun, he felt much more relieved. No matter what your bells and whistles are, I shot you down, so what are you putting here?

He showed a cruel and sinister smile and said, "Hand over your rifle, it's best not to play any tricks. For the fact that you help me, I don't need to kill you..."

As soon as the "men" said it, Kenneth suddenly realized that there should be someone else by his side. There was no way Sarah was a child and was very well behaved on weekdays. He ignored it.

He suddenly looked at where Sarah was originally, but found that the other party was no longer there. He secretly said that it was not good. He was about to pull the trigger and deal with Brian first, when he suddenly heard a gust of wind behind him. Feeling a pain in the back of my head, he instantly lost consciousness.

With the blow Kenneth fell to the ground, Sarah gave a thumbs up, holding a wooden stick in front of him.

When Sarah saw him, she just smiled lightly, threw the stick aside, kicked the unconscious man, and said, "I didn't expect you to guess, this guy really wants your gun. He didn't pay attention to me."

But then he asked with some doubt: "Aren't you afraid that he will fail, he just shot us and killed us all?"

  "It doesn't matter."

Walking in front of Kenneth, Brian bent down to pick up the pistol he was holding, took out the magazine and gestured towards Sarah, jokingly saying, "I've already unloaded the bullets into your pistol, so this trip is just to practice your courage, lest you make a fuss when you encounter an infected person in the future."

Sarah said again, "So what should I do with this guy?"

Brian pondered for a moment, then looked at Sarah seriously and said, "My idea is to let you kill him, we will definitely encounter this kind of thing often in the future, so now it is enough to let you live safely. Get used to the situation beforehand, but..."

She turned her head, looked in the direction of the cabin by the lake and continued, "But he is Angela's father. If that child loses his father, it will be very difficult for him to survive. I know you and her. The relationship is not bad, so I won't force you, it's up to you to decide what to do."

After speaking, Brian took out a bullet from his pocket, put it into the magazine, pulled the barrel back, stuffed the gun into Sarah's hand, and then walked towards the town without looking back.

I'll wait for you in the gap at the entrance to the bar.

Staring blankly at Brian's disappearing figure, Sarah looked down at the gun in her hand and was silent for a moment, but then took a deep breath and raised the gun toward Kenneth, who was lying on the ground.

  "bang!"

  .....

  Inside the village.

The scorching sun shone down on the ruined streets, and in less than a week, this once bustling city had become completely silent.

There were only scattered infected people wandering around on the street. Most of the infected people stood dumbfounded, with their knees bent, their hands lightly covering their heads, as if they were fiercely struggling for something, and they looked extremely painful.

At this moment, two figures entered the village from the south, moving along the outskirts of the village where there were few infected people, and did not stop until the road ahead was blocked by collapsed houses.

"Come on, let's rest in this house and see if you can get around it later."

Looking at the blocked path in front of him, Brian sighed and led Sarah to the yard next door.

The door was unlocked, and there was an infected person standing in the same place and struggling, without thinking, Brian pulled out a dagger and sneaked behind her, ending her pain.

After resolving the threat, the two looked for things that could be used in the house and then rested on the sofa in the living room.

Sarah, lying on the sofa, couldn't contain her curiosity and asked, "I still don't understand why we have to take such a big risk to find some food. There are so many houses here, so there should be enough."

  "Okay, let me show you."

Seeing Sarah's curious little face, Brian couldn't help but reach out and pinch her, then took out a message sheet from his backpack, put it in the other's hand, and said, "This is the last time I was in the city center. I saw it by accident. You'll see it when you see it."

Curiously taking the message paper, Sarah looked at the content on it:

  ...

Damn it, where have you been, Morris? It's a mess out there, if you see this message, hurry to where we hid last time, just north of the Fair Steel factory, I won't wait for you too long, you won't see me when you arrive, I'm sorry, you need to escape alone, I'll leave you some supplies and a car, don't worry, I'll lock the car, the password is 7736, the car keys and supplies are in the dark compartment under the desk, remember not to die!

  good luck Ford

  ...

"Okay, don't get so excited," looking at Sarah's little mouth gradually opening, Brian took the paper from her hand in a playful manner and put it back into his backpack.

When she came to, Sarah looked at Brian in disbelief and said, "That's why you dare to come out like that. It turned out to be a plan."

  "Are you talking nonsense?"

Hearing the other party's exclamation, Brian rolled his eyes, then walked up to Sarah with a curious expression and said, "I'd also like to know what you did to that Kenneth guy."
