Chapter 1 - Brian

Suburbs of Austin, Texas, United States.

The morning sun shines through the shaded curtains, illuminating the slightly darkened room. On the large bed in the room, a boy about 13 years old sleeps soundly. The sunlight outside the window seems to make him a little uncomfortable. Shivering, he unconsciously turned his head toward the window in a different direction.

  "Doorbell--!"

Just as the boy turned his head, on the bedside table next to him, the cat-faced alarm clock emitted a harsh throbbing sound, which woke the boy from his slumber.

Frowning slightly, the young man stretched his arms from the bedspread, pressed the alarm clock to the headboard with ease, and then slowly opened his somewhat bitter eyes.

Rubbing his eyes, the young man rose from the quilt, stretched his limbs and stretched his waist vigorously, and at the same time emitted a strange constipation-like cry.

Looking at the time on the alarm clock, it was already 7:00, without the slightest nostalgia, he lifted the quilt, put on the slippers placed beside the bed and went into the bathroom to wash me.

Picking up the cup and toothbrush in the sink, looking at his delicate appearance in the mirror, the corners of the boy's mouth lifted slightly and said proudly:

"I didn't expect there would be such benefits after crossing over."

That's right, the young man is a person who accidentally crossed over because of death. It has been almost a month since he came into this world. He has also gradually adapted from the initial confusion to the present. He discovered this world is almost the same as the world of his origin.

In this world, his name is Brian. His parents, due to work reasons, are not at home all year, so there is only him and a nanny in the whole house, which saves him from the embarrassment of recognizing his parents as soon as he crosses over.

Overall, he is very satisfied with his current life, without the pressure of life in his previous life.

After washing up, Brian took off his pajamas, pulled a school uniform out of the closet and put it on. After a brief grooming, he turned around and left the room.

In the hallway on the second floor, a middle-aged woman was preparing breakfast in the kitchen, when she heard footsteps on the stairs, she stepped back and saw Brian standing on the stairs at a glance.

"Hey, I got up really early today."

Seeing the middle-aged woman suddenly poke half her head out, Brian nodded and greeted him, "Good morning, Josie."

"Go and sit down at the table first, breakfast will be ready soon.

After passing through the living room, Brian sat down in the dining room chair, picked up the newspaper on the table and read it. There was no way he could have his cell phone nearby. He could read the contents of the paper, but his eyebrows were raised, he can't help but furrow slightly.

"The number of hospital admissions in district hospitals has skyrocketed and the number of foreign infections has increased by 300%."

"The FDA's Food Hygiene Agency found more contaminated crops and a large number of recalls are expected."

"A woman went crazy and killed her husband and 3 others."

Brian found that since he crossed over, strange infections and murders in this world had increased daily, which made him very doubtful that his arrival had brought some strange changes to the world.

"You need to finish your breakfast."

Just as Brian was carefully reading the contents of the paper, Josie had brought the breakfast prepared in front of him, eggs, donuts, hash browns and milk, a typical American breakfast.

After a few quick bites, Brian took advantage of Josie's lack of attention.

He quickly picked up the backpack from the side and ran out the door, ignoring the other party's voice shouting behind him.

  Hi, Brian.

Just as he turned around and closed the door, Brian heard someone yelling his name next to him, he turned his head and saw that it was the girl who lived next door to him calling his name.

The girl's name is Sarah, she has short pale blonde hair and looks very pretty. She is the first friend Brian made when he came into this world. Well, she also learned a lot of original and general information about all the nearby homes.

  "Good morning."

Seeing Sarah walking quickly towards him, Brian also greeted him politely, and then saw a middle-aged man with a beard standing not far behind the girl.

The middle-aged man's name is Joel, who is Sarah's father, he seems to be a construction worker, Brian has not seen the other's wife, but he believes that it is nothing more than divorce or death.

Brian looked into the other party's eyes, and the corners of his mouth twisted slightly, but he still greeted the other party very calmly:

  "Good morning, Joel."

On the opposite side, Joel stared at him for a while, until Brian felt a little uncomfortable, and then he moved slightly closer, then picked up the phone and made a call, although the distance was a bit great, but he still heard what he was saying. , he seemed to be saying about contractors or something.

"Yes ~" Sarah, who was standing off to the side, clearly witnessed the whole process, covered her mouth and chuckled, patted Brian on the shoulder, and when she saw the other party turn to look at him, she said in a joking tone:

"My dad doesn't seem to like it very much."

  "Haha."

Brian and Sarah study at the same school, and the school has a special shuttle bus. Because the place where they live is located in the suburbs of the city and near the freeway intersection, students here will wait at the designated place for safety reasons, the vehicle will board directly when it arrives.

If you do not arrive at the designated time for your own reasons, you are sorry, you must drive your own car or take the bus to take the child to school in person.

  "Good morning, Jimmy."

  "Good morning, Cooper."

  "......"

The two walked down the road they must pass every day, and Sarah seemed particularly happy today, waving her arms constantly, greeting people she met who passed by.

  "Hi, Brian."

When no one else was around, Sarah turned her head to Brian's side and said:

"I'm sneaking out of school today to go to the mall, do you want to come?"

Brian raised his eyebrows, his expression a little surprised, after getting along well this month, he knew Sarah was a very well behaved girl, and he didn't expect to have such a rebellious side.

"Mrs. Judy will be mad if you dare to do that."

"Hmph, just don't let her know."

Sarah was obviously well prepared for today's truancy action, she pulled a piece of paper folded into a square from her pocket and handed it to Brian.

"This is what I saw last time on Teacher Judy's desk. You can see it."

After taking the paper he handed to Sarah, Brian held it out for a look and immediately understood the other party's confidence. The contents were as follows:

  XX School Notice:

The school will hold the XXX meeting in the public assembly hall on September 6, 2013 at 1:00 pm All teachers of the school are requested to arrive on time by this means notified.

  "You are now ready."

Waving the notice in his hand, Brian was very surprised and then asked curiously:

"What are you going to do when you skip class and go to the mall?"

"It's my dad's birthday today and I'm going to buy him a present."

"Okay, when will I go with you?"

  "I'll let you know."

  .....

Entering the school bus, Brian found a random seat and sat down, admiring the beautiful scenery outside the window. This was the invisible landscape he lived in before in the city. Compared to the cold concrete armature, he actually liked the landscape in front of him. A green and vibrant scene.

The school bus drove unsteadily for half an hour. Brian and Sarah arrived at the school. The teachers were already waiting at the school gate. After the bus door opened, they led their classmates back to the classroom.

The form of education here is completely different from what Brian has faced before, it is very happy and there is basically no supervision from a teacher.

After spending another happy morning like this, Brian arrived at the cafeteria and looked at the hamburgers and sandwiches in the window with a very helpless expression. He could feel his stomach protesting, but no lunch was bad for his body. No, I can He seemed to have no choice but to go back and open a small stove for the night.

After lunch, Brian had just left the cafeteria and saw someone posting the latest notice on the bulletin board at the entrance to the restaurant.

Having nothing to do, he stepped forward curiously. After the person who posted the notice left, he stepped forward to look.

It turns out that due to the recent sudden outbreak of infectious disease, all of Austin is about to go into a state of martial law. The school has issued a notice that beginning in October, the school will be closed indefinitely. Students are asked to go home and notify their students. If you are concerned, call XXXXXX.

  "Is it all that serious?"

Thinking of an epidemic in his previous life, Brian decided to buy some face masks to prepare, but just as he was about to turn around and leave, a large group of students swarmed behind him, all excitedly watching the announcement, some even clapping. their hands enthusiastically.

After finally getting out of the crowd, he was about to return to the classroom when he suddenly felt something pinching his waist behind him, his footsteps stopped slightly, he turned his head and discovered it was Sarah standing behind him.

Seeing the turn, Sarah blinked, made a booing gesture, pointed to a corner of the cafeteria, touched her lips lightly and said quietly:

  "action!"
