"I wish," She gasped trying to breathe, "You are free."
There was just desolation here. This was the Ancient Ruins. A place no one dared to set foot in. This was the place where gods fought and died. Their powers still remain dormant here.
A girl lay dying and the surrounding people didn't bat an eye.
Chase tried to break away from his lamp but he couldn't. She was dying. He couldn't do anything about it. He was bound to his lamp. He couldn't even control his lamp. How pathetic!
His enemies laughed and taunted.
"Ha. A silly genie who fell in love with a human. Look at him trying to break free."
This voice made him want to kill.
"He still thinks he can save her."
He didn't glance at him.
He looked at her pale face and decided.
With his entire wish power, he wished.
"Lamp, my lamp! Let me be. Let me save her once more, let me give her life for life."
Chase felt the overwhelming energy surge out of the lamp and flow out. His own life was draining and the lamp rose.
The lamp suspended in the air sent magic to her, and Chase closed his eyes.
He was dying. He knew it. He didn't know how it would feel but he welcomed death with open arms. All those wishes would never happen. He broke another promise.
If there was another life, he would never want to be a genie. He would never want to meet her just to hurt her.
He would definitely take revenge.
"No, my wish, Chase, you have to be free!"
He heard her voice and died with a smile on his face.
The lamp vibrated and the outer shards on it broke. The people standing near it couldn't bear the full power of the lamp and were blasted off.
Amelia sat up and saw Chase turning into a stream of magic power and integrating with the lamp.
The lamp was him and he was the lamp. A genie is everything with his lamp.
She didn't stop. She walked directly to the lamp with great difficulty and stood watching the power. The destructive power didn't touch her.
"It's you, right, Chase!"
She cried.
"I wish you were free, Chase. I wish you are always free."
She stabbed her heart and the pendant on her neck absorbed the power. She knew it was done.
"Maybe, we will meet again in the afterlife, huh, Chase!"
Amelia died.
There was nothing left here.
A lonely dirty lamp stayed there, fallen, broken, ownerless.
Time goes on. But backward.
"Amelia!"
Chase woke up and found light streaming from his window.
He looked here and there and found that he was at his home. The home before he joined Genie Academy.
Before he was bonded to a lamp before he met Amelia. Before he fell in love with her.
He was back. Rebirth. It sounded ridiculous but yet, it happened to him. He didn't know why he could come back, but he was thankful. To protect Amelia, he had to become strong.
This time, he wouldn't be stupid. This time, he would save everyone.
Chase was an orphan. He lived in the orphanage. Another reason he was bullied in the academy. He didn't care about that because he was strong. The only people he couldn't beat were the rich.
He looked at his eighteen year old self and sighed. There were no scars yet. He found it disorienting.
He walked down the stairs and saw no one.
They wouldn't wait for him to wake up. He remembered in his previous life, he appeared late and was ridiculed by students. He didn't fight and that paved his future as a punching bag before he learned to stand up for himself.
Today was the day the lamp chose the genie.
Choosing day.
He thought that becoming a genie was the reason for his death. Maybe he could become a technical person behind the scenes in the academy but the power becoming a genie gave him, he couldn't lose that. Without that, he never could save Amelia.
Chase ran to the academy. It wasn't far from his orphanage. It took him only thirty minutes.
The huge gates were open. He ran into the auditorium.
It was time.
"Chase Sanders!"
"Chase Sanders!"
"If you are not present here, you will try next year."
Chase ran with renewed vigor.
"Chase Sanders!"
"I'm here!"
The auditorium was full of people.
He found a red portal. The portal was the place of lamps. He always wondered how many lamps were there and whether they would be enough for all the genies. It was a mystery no one solved yet.
The person on the podium nodded without any other reaction.
"Place your hand into the portal. If you get a lamp, you can be a genie. Otherwise, you can try again later!"
Try again later! It meant you were destined to be a normal person.
Chase had gotten his lamp the next year because he missed it the first year. He didn't know what would happen now.
He put his hand inside the portal. The red color swirled and he felt a cool sensation.
Suddenly there was a cool touch on his fingers.
He grabbed it and stepped back.
There was a palm-sized lamp in his palm.
The announcer looked at him with pity.
"Chase Sanders- Chosen!"
There was an applause. He was chosen.
"It may be dirty and broken but you are chosen."
Chase walked away with his lamp. He was sent to another room where other genies sat.
Looking at all those new faces, Chase truly felt that he was reborn. Maybe this time, he would be a first-class Genie.
The girl beside him looked at his lamp and gasped.
"Sorry!"
"It's okay!"
"I'm Cordelia Watson."
Cordelia Watson, died during the first year of her genie life. She is Amelia's sister. It was because of her death that Amelia came to take revenge and they met.
"Nice to meet you, Cordelia!"
