Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 (Built Bonds)

War had always plagued humanity since the dawn of time. When the evolution of humans to powers made it all the bloodier, one man stopped the cycle. Surging in to separate the warring nations like quarrelsome toddlers. The peace got laid, but those nations grew bearing grudges. The man died, his peace with him.

My nation fell first, my soul is forever tainted from the things I happened to see on that day.

It will be only a matter of time before the curse of war consumes the world again. I will not let that happen. I have family to protect, and they will most definitely outlive me; thus, my solution to war needs to also. That is too big of an ask of a teen, but, hey, someone has to do it.

The story opens with Moto sparring. His opponent is quick. Moto tosses out a smoke bomb to blind him, then leaps into the cloud. The boos of his classmates greet him as he does so, but his one friend, Sheu, weakly cheers him on. Moto grins at her and bounces back into the fray to kick his dazed opponent in the face.

Opponent (to himself): "I'm not about to lose to a person with such gross powers. But at least his smoke can camouflage my own."

The closer Moto gets, though, the more he hears a buzzing-nothing-until he's out cold. The students hail the victory of the new kid as the teacher reinforces such a decision. Moto punches into the ground.

Moto: "At this rate?.No, positive."

He gets up and shakes hands with his opponent. Next up is Sheu: he has to fight Drake, who can make the ground he is standing on vibrate which puts Sheu off guard.

Drake: "I really should be in one of those higher-ranking schools."

Sheu is too wary of her powers being used against her cousin and thus loses her match. Afterwards, Moto walks Sheu home.

Sheu: "I didn't think you would lose."

Moto: "Me neither. Something about his punch was weird-it felt like lightning struck me."

Sheu: "Excuses."

Moto: "You're one to talk."

Sheu's father welcomes them at the door and invites Moto to stay overnight with them. Moto declines graciously.

Moto: "Luxuries are distractions."

Sheu's Father: "Ah let me guess, more quotes from your brother?"

He nods proudly

Sheu's Father: "Well since I knew that would be said, here is your supper then."

He thanks him and goes to an alley. The alley is very neat and tranquil. He then exhaled one huge cloud of smoke, causing rats and the hordes of insects which were hiding began to scurry all over. And then Moto starts doing his night-time training. Meanwhile, Sheu watches him out of her window. Subsequently, he jumps up on to the roof with his pillow and lies on his back watching the stars.

Moto: "Today I lost. but don't you worry, Amber. I'll get stronger-to protect you from what's coming."

The next day at school, Moto spots the new kid and talks to Sheu about how he never interacts with others. Despite Sheu's discouragement, Moto approaches Najo and puts his arm out for an arm wrestle. Najo, annoyed, walks away but notices Sheu behind Moto, making him nervous. He walks away quicker. Moto notices and grins, continuing to pester Najo for a few days.

Motto: "You got a lucky shot on me, but there's no way you're stronger."

Eventually, Najo accepts to arm wrestle. Just when Moto is about to win, Najo uses lightning to catch Moto off guard, winning the match in a flash. People notice, and rumors spread that there's a lightning user at their low-level school. The thing is, lightning users are generally powerful and should be in the elite school, where training focuses on students' powers, not physical ability. Najo runs away when he sees the attention, leaving Moto bewildered.

That night, the word reaches Nawick, a tall man seated alone at a large dinner table. The son of the head of the Lightning Village, he picks up his fork and coats it with lightning, grilling his medium-rare beef.

Nawick: "Bring him to me. I will assess him myself."

He tells his spies. Meanwhile, Moto sees an opportunity to learn from a stronger opponent and befriends Najo, unaware of what he's getting himself into.
