Chapter 22 - Fright Night

"Let's play a game, everyone. I have a Ouija board with me," Suzy bellowed with a huge grin, holding the board up in the air.

"Ooooooh!" Half the students at the party responded.

"I will summon a spirit of a loved one who has passed away for anyone who raises their hand," she concluded, sitting on the sofa with the table facing her.

The students fell silent at her words. Some looked at each other, perplexed—not because she was holding a Ouija board, but because she had mentioned involving people who had passed away. No one raised their hands in fear of the unknown. Ghosts might not be real, but summoning a loved one who had passed seemed sickening and somewhat disrespectful. Mira and Lisa went toward her and sat on the opposite sofa, facing her. Mira spoke, her thoughts drifting back to past events when she had faced terrifying demons.

"Um, Suzy, I thought you told Reina and me that you don't use Ouija boards. Why the sudden change?"

"No, I didn't plan on using the board, but a guy in a cloak and hat gave it to me. I could barely see his face, but he did a trick and I saw the board levitate. He gave me some spells to perform. See?" She held out a torn piece of paper and dangled it in the air.

"Give me that!" Mira snapped, grabbing it forcefully from her and tearing it to shreds. Lisa and Mira were about to take the Ouija board and smash it when two male students hurriedly grabbed their arms and forced them to their feet. They were both strong. Mira cursed under her breath, managing to glance at the student holding onto Lisa. His eyes had turned black—soulless.

"Lisa, hey, calm down. Look at his eyes!"

"What?!"

"His eyes, Lisa!"

Lisa slowly turned to look at the male student holding Mira. His eyes were pitch black.

"I need to know if my father is alright on the other side," a girl chimed in as she walked over and sat next to Suzy.

"Alright, let's begin! Mortuos ex campis inferorum evocare..." Suzy continued chanting the spell.

Lisa grew sick of her attempt to summon the dead and tried to levitate the Ouija board with her mind, but the board wouldn't move. She could feel her powers, but a strange, evil aura surrounded Suzy's presence.

"Shut up! Stop chanting!" Mira screamed at the top of her lungs. Some of the students stepped back, their instincts telling them to leave the house.

Suddenly, a white light shone from the Ouija board. The students exclaimed in shock and wonder, all of them moving closer to the table, eyeing the enchanting white light. For a moment, everything seemed blissful. But slowly, the girl sitting next to Suzy began to cry. Suzy looked at her with curiosity, expecting to see the supernatural.

"What do you see? Tell me," Suzy asked. The girl covered her face and continued weeping. Infuriated by her tears, Suzy grabbed her hands and jerked them open.

"Tell me!"

One of the students yelled in horror as the girl sitting next to Suzy suddenly appeared old, her skin wrinkled and her eye sockets turned black. The girl, now elderly, collapsed onto the table, unmoving.

Three of the students who looked into the bright light slowly turned wrinkled with old age and fell to their deaths. The students screamed in terror and started running toward the door, but an invisible force blocked the entrance. Lisa used her telekinetic powers, and with a ripple in the air, a bolt of energy forced the two men who had held her and Mira captive to the ground with a loud thud. With her eyes still glistening red, she chanted a spell to bind the astral portal that was opening on the Ouija board. A wave of black energy jolted from the board and disappeared, leaving a dark circle where the astral portal had been. Black, magma-like substance slowly oozed from the portal, steadily pouring onto the ground.

Exhausted and with few options left, Lisa made one last attempt to seal the portal, but failed. The students continued to run in different directions, panic in their voices as they screamed for help. Some tried to break through the invisible force blocking the door, but it held them back. The black magma spread across the ground, making contact with two female students. They stopped, their legs sealed by the black substance. They struggled to break free, but they couldn't. Slowly, their skin became wrinkled, their faces filled with panic as the magma drained their life force. Their faces aged, their hair turned gray, and with a horrifying screech, they fell into the magma, which swallowed them whole.

Mira dropped to the ground in terror, shifting closer to the edge of the wall where Lisa was and grabbing her legs. She had cast a few spells, but none of them were designed to battle demons. She didn't have the spiritual gift for such things. Lisa tried using her telekinetic abilities to dispel the magma, which worked for a moment, but more of it oozed out of the portal. She yelled, drawing the attention of the petrified students.

"Go closer to the walls, hurry! Don't let it touch you!" Her gaze shifted to the helpless group, terrified but obedient, as they lined up against the wall. She cast a protective spell, engulfing them in a red aura that spread across the wall, sealing them from the magma.

Her eyes widened as the magma shot out giant claws from the ground, piercing toward Lisa. Luckily, the red energy shielded her from the attack. The magma erupted with a blast, engulfing everything except the students hiding behind Lisa's protective barrier. What appeared to be eyes—two snake-like eyes—formed on the magma, glaring down at Lisa. Mira shut her eyes and clutched Lisa's leg as the claw slowly dug deeper into the shield, a faint crack appearing on the surface.
