Chapter 13 - The Fangtooth

Before leaving, he sealed the entrance of the cave with a third-tier magic spell [Stone Wall] to ensure Catherine's safety. Only then did Kevin, with Gurgle, step into the forest with peace of mind.

"Where are the magical beasts?" Kevin looked around, and it seemed that there was not a single magical beast around, perhaps due to Catherine's mana fluctuations.

Well, although he is now at the third tier, he cannot clearly perceive the mana fluctuations from Catherine. Bella said this was because the tier gap is too large, and Catherine's mana fluctuations are not aimed at him but at magical beasts. Plus, Kevin does not have the keen intuition of magical beasts, so he cannot feel Catherine's mana fluctuations.

There's no way, he can only go further away.

As Kevin walked, he left marks with his mana, so that he could find his way back by sensing the mana, and not get lost in the forest.

Kevin still needs to strengthen his control over mana, as mastering magic and controlling mana are not the same thing.

However, with perfect control over magic, he can also deduce the control of mana in reverse, becoming more familiar with the use of mana, and he believes that it won't take long for his mana control to reach a "perfect" level.

With the increase in his tier, his physique has also been greatly enhanced. After walking several miles in the forest, Kevin did not feel tired, but instead became more and more excited.

Finally, seven miles away from the rocky cave, he encountered his first magical beast.

Fangtooth Rabbit!

Yes, it was the first-tier magical beast that Bella had said Kevin couldn't defeat, the Fangtooth Rabbit.

The Fangtooth Rabbit looks similar to rabbits on Earth, but with two pairs of long ears, and a size comparable to a Husky, with two sharp tusks on the side of its mouth, which is where its name comes from.

[Fangtooth Rabbit: A first-tier water-element magical beast!]

The Fangtooth Rabbit is not a herbivorous magical beast, but an omnivorous one, eating grass when available and meat when it's not!

So when it saw Kevin, the Fangtooth Rabbit did not run away, but instead stared at him and licked its lips, as if considering whether to treat this two-legged creature as food.

Kevin immediately felt a bit angry. Hey, I haven't even eaten you yet, and you want to eat me first?

Alright, today it's going to be roasted rabbit!

With that, Kevin was about to cast a spell, but the Fangtooth Rabbit took the lead, opening its mouth and condensing a water arrow that shot straight at Kevin's face.

Kevin was startled and awkwardly rolled out of the way.

"Damn..." Kevin shook the dust off his head.

Indeed, novels are not to be trusted; most people have difficulty dealing with ordinary beasts, let alone magical beasts.

Magical beasts have much faster reaction speeds than humans and also possess innate magic, such as the Fangtooth Rabbit's innate magic, which is [Water Arrow].

Even if the power is not great, it's enough to make a combat novice like Kevin slightly flustered.

After all, this is the first time he's fighting with magic, and people need an adaptation process, and Kevin, with his thick nerves, is no exception.

Unless they are special forces or international assassins, it's nonsense to think that normal people can come here and start fighting and killing without blinking an eye; that's madness.

Reacting quickly, Kevin immediately cast a spell.

[Low-tier Rock Armor]!

Suddenly, a magical array appeared behind Kevin, and a rock armor appeared on his body.

The rock armor covered his whole body, making him look like a medieval heavy cavalryman, with greatly increased defense. A third-tier defensive spell could definitely defend against a first-tier [Water Arrow].

Sure enough, the next moment, the Fangtooth Rabbit spat out a water arrow that hit Kevin, only to be blocked by the rock armor, not even leaving a mark, just a few water stains.

Kevin was delighted, while the Fangtooth Rabbit was shocked.

With its low intelligence, it now knew that the two-legged creature in front of it was not something it could deal with, so it made a decisive decision and ran away.

Ordinary wild rabbits can run at speeds of sixty to seventy kilometers per hour, not to mention a magical beast. Kevin only saw a flash of the Fangtooth Rabbit's figure and then it was gone.

"Damn!" Kevin was taken aback, wanting to chase after it, but he forgot about the rock armor he was wearing.

The rock armor was incredibly heavy, and even with mana attached, it would still affect movement to some extent. Kevin wasn't paying attention and tripped, falling flat on his face.

"Ouch..." Kevin dispelled the rock armor and, rubbing his chest, got back up.

Indeed, he lacked combat experience; even a first-tier Fangtooth Rabbit could outsmart him.

However, he wasn't discouraged; instead, he found this to be more realistic.

Although he was weak and inexperienced at the moment, he believed he would become stronger very soon.

He wanted to enjoy the process of getting stronger!

"Let's go, I'll look for more Fangtooth Rabbits. If I don't eat rabbit today, I'll write my name backward!"

Bella asked curiously, "How do you write it backward?"

Kevin: "NIVEK."

Bella: "..."

After walking for a while longer, Kevin encountered another Fangtooth Rabbit, which was busily gnawing on a large beetle, its four ears pricking up in alarm as it spotted Kevin.

Kevin's expression was focused and determined.

This time, I must succeed!

The farthest-reaching spell he could cast was a third-tier light magic called [Ray].

[Ray]involves condensing a light orb the size of a marble, which then transforms into a light beam the thickness of a chopstick, striking the designated location at the speed of light. Of course, its power is limited; its individual power is half a level lower than that of Burst Fireball, and it doesn't have the area damage of Burst Fireball, but it excels in long range and comes with penetration.

The maximum range of Ray can reach over a hundred meters, with the damage at the farthest distance being similar to that of a second-tier fireball.

It should be enough!

At this moment, Kevin was thirty to forty meters away from the Fangtooth Rabbit.

To ensure success in this monster hunt, Kevin was very cautious, spreading his hands wide and immediately condensing twenty light orbs around him.

The Fangtooth Rabbit, seeing this display, was instantly terrified, its fur standing on end, and it immediately turned to run.

But Kevin wasn't about to let it get away so easily.
