All the members of the Woods family stood there, his father and mother in law were there and beside them in the distance was none other than Magan and Harry.
They were openly there in the distance m didn't anybody see it? Unless…they were aware all this time.
"What's going on?" he asked his voice hoarse and he received huffs in return.
"What do you think?" His mother in law, Patricia Woods sneered.
Suddenly she reached out and papers slammed against his hand. He barely cought them on time before his blood ran cold.
DIVORCE.
"Sign them and quit wasting our time." she said, folding her hands.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He looked up to find the members if the family all staring at him expectantly.
He had treated them well and always sacrificed for them. He always hoped that they would treat him as a son and he could truly be like their family. Yet as they all looked at him it was with apathy and expectation.
"My daughter has always deserved better than you. Its time that she took it. You've been holding her back for the past two years."
"Mother in-"
"Don't you dare call me by that name. I never want a filthy peasant like you calling me that."
She lowered her hand, looking all over him.
"The divorce would be easy considering that you were never worthy of the Woods name in the first place. Grandfather has already ensured that the proceedings go smoothly. My daughter will be getting married soon and she needs a worthy man in her life. So just sign them."
He still couldn't say anything after the men was shoved in his hands.
"If you treasure your life, you better sign those papers." His father-in-law, William Woods, threatened, gripping his hand harshly to the point of pain. "You are nothing to us and we could make life worse for you."
Despite the pain, Stephan wasn't focused in them. Instead he turned to Meghan.
"Is this really what you want?" sephan asked, his heart shaking.
Meghan smirked. Even now, he was still acting like this? Pathetic.
"Quit wasting my parents time and sign the papers." she snapped leaning against Harry.
That was the last straw. The final piece of his heart shattered with those words. Without a word, he picked up the pan and signed on the blank slate left with his name. After it was pulled back, William smirked
"Now, its time for you to go."
Stephan blinked, "What?"
Before he knew it two security men grabbed him by the arm. He struggled against them. Whet were they doing? This place he had scrounged up enough money to buy two years ago. His belongings were inside and they were sending him out of his house.
"This is no longer your house." John smirked.
"You didn't know, but we bought this house a long time ago. Did you think it was your measly money that could afford this?" Joseph sneered, "the last thing we want is for our daughter to be living in the slums. Now that you're out of our lives, there's no need for this place. Forget about those rags you call belongings. We'll burn everything."
"Stop!" Stephan screamed as he struggled against them but it was futile. He only met pain on the cold hard floor as he was thrown out of the gates of the house.
"Lock him out of this house and call the police if you see him lurking around." William announced and the men around him nodded.
Stephan was stricken frozen n place as he watched all the members of the Woods family drive off, Meghan and Harry throwing victorious glances before laughing into their car.
He was completely defeated. Despite the heaviness in his body he forced himself to stand up, walking away from the place he called home now barred to him.
Where could he go?
Before he could think, an object moved in the corner of his eyes. He'd turned too late to see a car.
Suddenly everything went blank and a sharp pain filled his insides. He felt something hot streaming around his body and face followed with the metallic scent of blood. As he was losing consciousness he heard voices lous and clear.
"Is he dead?" It was Megan.
"He's near it." That was Harry's voice.
Stephan managed to blink his eyes open and true to his vision it was the car he'd seen earlier.
"See? I told you I'd take care of it. You said that you wanted to get rid of him. now he'll never interfere in our lives again."
"My hero," Megan's voice simpered, "Dying in the streets in the middle of nowhere suits him. A fate fit for a loser. Good riddance.."
Her giggles faded into nothing.
He faintly heard the car drive off as darkness crept into his sight.
Meghan and Harry….they murdered him.
What had he been living for? The wife he loved left him, that family threw him out of his own home.
He was dying as a loser, a nobody.
It was all unfair. So unfair.
If he could have another chance…
He closed his eyes, finally giving in to death.
…
'System loading…'
'System installed. Prepare for Awakening'
'Awakening start.'
…
Stephan gasped for air, reaching out blindly through the darkness only to meet a blurry sight. His vision cleared, to see a blank dead monitor in front of him. How could this be?
He looked around to find only familiar blue walls and paper. This was the small cubicle he was given as an office. But how could this be? He was supposed to be…
His breath caught and instantly. He scrambled for his phone to check the time. It was already early on a Saturday morning in July.
July? That was six months ago.
Was it just a dream? He pinched himself and it felt real.
What was going on?
'System voice activated. Subject has awakened.'
'Hello.'
He jumped ut of his seat in shock. What the hell?!
Looking around he didn't see anyone. Not that he even recognized the voice…
'I apologize for startling you. you must be confused at this moment, but I am speaking in your mind. Nobody else can hear us'
Was he going crazy? he put his hands on his head to try but he was actually hearing it.
"Who are you?" he asked
'Let me introduce myself. I am 'RUPIS' Righteous Underdog Person Inheritance system. And I am here to aid you in your journey."
It all seemed lie a fever dream. First he lost everything and died only to wake up six months after with a voice in his head. Was this all connected?
"Why am I here? Explain everything." he asked
'The system deemed you worthy or returning. Throughout your lifetime despite your conditions you have been a hard worker, always taking the righteous path and sacrificing for the people you cared for, only to receive nothing in return. In the end, you met a grim fate, being hit by the car of you wife and her lover and dying alone on the road.'
That meant it wasn't a dream.
'Seeing that, the system looked at your fate and decided you were a worthy subject to receive the inheritance system. Thus you were reborn and sent back in time and I was installed into you.'
"What the hell?"
Suddenly a group of Holographic monitors appeared in his vision. It was unbelievable and futuristic and he could hardly believe his eyes.
'RUPIS, Commonly known as the Inheritance System, enables the subject to gain wealth through engaging in several tasks, the most important task being the punishment of Oppressors. Every person whose wrongdoings you expose and punish will enable you to 'inherit' their wealth.'
"Merit system…Potential…what.." he breathed out.
The monitor switched revealing the merit points.
'The merit points are points gained through the people you help along the way. Those who were oppressed and you have saved or helped will help you gain merit points, the amount of merit points determined by the number of people rescued and helped to gain justice.'
"C-can you put down the monitor?" Stefan stuttered. He blinked the next moment and the screens were gone, leaving only his office wall.
He still couldn't believe a y of this, yet the only question he had at the moment was,
"Why this? Why me?" he asked out loud.
'I believe I have elaborated on this Stephan.' the System's voice responded.
He swallowed thickly but before he could reply, a loud scream rang.
