"Stephan? You mean that good for nothing loser I call a husband? God, I cant wait to get rid of him."
Stephan was dead silent as he heard Meghan laughing through the door.
He'd been working overtime for the past few days, never sleeping for less than an hour. Today after days of hard work, he'd finally been able to return home early, taking a day off.
Only to come back to this?
His wife, the love of his life, had been cheating on him this entire time, and not just with anyone but with his boss, Harry Reeves.
The sane man who dumped work on him everyday. He forced him to work overtime for measly pay. But Stephan didn't care. He was ready to take all the unjust treatment if it meant that he could take care of her and give her the life she'd deserved.
He didn't know how long he'd spent standing there, but it was enough to hear everything. Harry casually regaled him tales of how he tortured him , piling him up with work and all she did was laugh.
All this time…was this what she thought of him?
"So when are you going to tell him? I cant stand the idea of our child being raised by him." Harry said,And Stephan's breath hitched.
Their child?
She chuckled.
"God, this baby, claimed by him? I can't even stand the sight of him most times. The thought of him claiming this baby as his makes me want to throw up. Its disgusting enough that he actually expected me to take his name at first, thank god my parents put a stop to that. Why the hell would I even want a baby with that poor loser?" she laughed.
His jaw clenched. So even the baby wasn't his.
He remembered how happy he was when she announced the pregnancy. They'd just had the baby shower a few months ago and had worked harder than ever, to scrounge enough money to pay for the lavish party she wanted. Even though she still complained and her parents sneered at it, he didn't mind.
It was what drove him to work so hard, even though he'd passed out several times.
And all this time, the baby wasn't even his.
"As soon as the baby is born, I'll humiliate him. For now though i'll let him be and humor him. you should see how he looks at me, talking about raising the baby in this slum. He's like a dog, waiting for his master."
Her words were like knives in his chest. Her laughter echoed through the door.
"Let's forget about him tonight. You've piled enough work for him so we can spend more time together…"
The sound of her giggles was the last straw.
He slammed the door open without hesitation and he nearly broke at the sight.
Meghan, despite her obvious belly bump was completely naked on the bed, her red hair in disarray. And beside her, Harry reeves
"How could you do this to me Meghan?" he screamed out loud, holding back his rage and anguish.
He hoped she would show some level of remorse for his shattered heart, but as the shock seeped away, a smirk came onto her face.
"I guess its happening sooner." she said and he didn't understand at first.
She stood up and in a flash he felt a sharp sting on his cheek as she slapped him. Stephan looked up in disbelief to see her smiling.
"What did you expect? That i'll stay with a poor bastard like you and stay in this slum? I only took pity on you in college because you were so desperate. I even had the grace to marry you. You should count yourself lucky that someone like me even spared a glance at you." she said, gesturing over him
"Look at you. Working for scraps and expecting me to be satisfied. I'm Meghan freaking Woods. Only someone rich and powerful is worthy of me. And Harry is exactly that."
He couldn't move, frozen in space ass she leaned in, a cruel smile on her face
"Harry is a real man, and you? You're nothing more than a glorified help."
She pushed him with a finger, and Stephan felt to weak to stumble into the wall, staring at them blankly.
"Since you came here, you might as well stay in these slums. We're leaving." She sneered. Wrapping the blanket around herself she huffed away.
Harry quickly dressed up, seeing her in a blanket, he carried her and led her away but not before sparing a glance at the pathetic man standing there
Without hesitation he spat at Stephan, smirking victoriously.
"Trash." He said before leading her away
Stephan didn't respond. He couldn't give any reaction even at the sound of a car driving away. The only thing he felt was shattered.
He thought she loved him.
Stephan knew that he was unworthy and unlucky. He was an orphan since birth after his mother died, and had lived and struggled for everything he had, eventually gaining a full-ride scholarship to a prestigious school where he met her.
She was beautiful and as the only daughter of the Wood's family, one of the richest families in the country, she was only a pipe dream for him to reach. He fell in love with her with a single encounter and despite being chased by others, he'd pursued her and she chose him. Since then he had always tried to make her happy. When they got married, her family did not approve and always looked down in him. For the oast two years he had tried everything yet no matter how hard he tried he could never get their approval. Even after they got married, they never acknowledged him, always sending him on menial tasks. Even the servants looked down on him, but he didn't mind because it was for her.
Was everything for nothing?
He closed his eyes and before he knew it his exhaustion took over as he passed out.
He woke up to knocking on the door. Blinking awake he looked around. It was already daytime.
Wiping away his tears and sleep, he stood up from the floor towards the room, opening the door before freezing.
Cars filled the small compound of his home and alongside it were men in suits as well as the group facing his door.
He was met face to face with the Woods family.
