Chapter 30 - Moonlight Conversation

Henry and Ariel strolled through Emberhaven's gardens, the moon casting a silver glow on the lush greenery. Their footsteps echoed softly, accompanied by the gentle rustling of leaves.

"Ariel, you've been quiet lately," Henry said, breaking the silence. "Is all well?"

Ariel's gaze drifted to the moon.

"I'm concerned about Solomon and Nahar," she replied. "Their wedding ceremony will bring the entire kingdom together. What if the Persians see it as an opportunity to strike?"

Henry's expression turned thoughtful.

"Solomon's aware of the risks," he said. "He's increased security measures. But I share your concern."

Their walk led them to a secluded bench, where they sat together.

As they conversed, Ariel's thoughts wandered to Henry's strong jawline and piercing eyes. She longed to reach out, to feel his warmth, but hesitated.

Henry, lost in discussion, didn't notice Ariel's gaze.

"...and I've been working with the knights to reinforce our defenses," Henry continued.

Ariel nodded, her voice barely above a whisper.

"You're always so focused on protecting others, Henry."

Henry turned to her.

"That's my duty," he said.

Ariel's eyes locked onto his.

"You deserve protection too," she whispered.

Their gazes held, the air thickening with unspoken emotions.

Henry's face leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper.

"Ariel, you—"

Ariel's heart skipped a beat.

—but Henry's words were lost as a passing guard called out.

"Lord Henry! A message from the castle!"

Henry rose, his expression apologetic.

"Duty calls," he said.

Ariel nodded, her longing hidden behind a smile.

As Henry departed, Ariel remained on the bench, the moonlight illuminating her contemplative face.

In the darkness, her thoughts whispered: "Soon, Henry. Soon."

Meanwhile, Henry walked back to the castle, unaware of Ariel's desires, but sensing an unshakeable connection between them.

Their unspoken emotions hung like a promise, waiting to be fulfilled.

Henry entered his chambers, exhausted from the day's strategic meetings. The soft glow of candles and the sweet scent of rose petals enveloped him, calming his weary mind.

As he approached the bed, his gaze fell upon Ariel, seated amidst the delicate petals. Her hair cascaded down her back, and her flowing white gown shimmered in the soft light.

"Ariel?" Henry asked, his voice laced with surprise.

Ariel's eyes met his, sparkling with warmth.

"I hoped you'd find this welcoming," she said, her voice gentle.

Henry's gaze roamed the intimate setting, his heart beating faster.

"Ariel, what's this?" he asked, his tone cautious.

Ariel's smile deepened.

"I wanted to create a peaceful space for you," she said. "A refuge from the weight of responsibility."

Henry's eyes locked onto hers.

"Ariel, you didn't have to..."

She interrupted him, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Let me take care of you tonight, Henry. No words, no duties. Just rest."

Henry's resolve softened.

He sat beside her, the rose petals crunching softly beneath him.

Ariel's hand reached out, her fingers brushing against his.

The world outside receded, leaving only the gentle warmth between them.
