Chapter 3 - Voidan

Now that the interrogation finally finished without much difficulty, the boy was once again taken back to the hospital for treatment; he was no longer unfamiliar with certain words, and now that the man gave him the ability to understand the language they spoke just by seeing the letters and words organized on the signs he saw across the streets.

He was very interested in how the old man managed to do that by just staring at the boy. So unable to hold his curiosity back, he asked a random bystander who appeared to be an elderly man.

"Hello there, how can an individual give information just by staring at a person?"

The man looked at the boy and showed a gentle smile while answering the boy's question.

"Oho, I see that you have encountered such a man. Well, we call those abilities magic."

"magic?"

"Yes, magic can come in various forms and variations, and it all depends on the way a soul is structured, the purity of the mana paths, and the clarity of a person's intelligence."

The old man crossed his leg before continuing his explanation.

"Not to brag, but I'm something of a mage myself."

Saying that, he raised his right hand and brought it closer to the boy's face. The boy, meanwhile, focused on the hand when it started to glow with a white light; the light was not strong enough to temporarily blind the boy, so the boy kept staring at it with his eyes wide open.

Noticing the boy's reaction, the old man closed his hand and placed it on the side of the chair and spoke.

"I'm only ranked 1 of the second tier, so it's not like I can brag much, haha."

He looked at the ceiling and continued.

"You're better off learning from books about mages; they aren't the only supernatural beings in this world after all, so you should learn more, especially when you're so young."

With that, the old man slowly stood up and carefully walked away so he wouldn't stumble and fall to the ground, while the boy simply stared at his back.

It's been approximately 6 months since I was interrogated by those men. After being interrogated by them, I was released back to the hospital and met an elderly man who called himself a mage. A day after that, I took the old man's advice and went to the library to seek knowledge in regards to how a human is able to use magic, but then I found out something even more interesting. I'm very curious as to how this world can function, but with these things that they call books present, I can carefully understand and comprehend it now.

I spent a week in the hospital, doing nothing but lay down in bed and visit the library there multiple times. I wouldn't say that I did not enjoy the pleasure of reading those books, but it can be tiresome most of the time, given I was suddenly sent here by a thing that appeared to be a star according to the books I read.

After spending a week in the hospital, I was suddenly called by a name, Voidan. It appeared to be a beautiful name that perfectly encapsulates my whole existence. Nothing; I was nothing. I did not consent to being called by this name; however, to my surprise, it was already my official name; perhaps my interrogators pulled some strings in order to create a new identity for me.

Funny how I'm already having the thoughts of an adult inside the body of an 8-year-old, right? And despite only being in this world for 6 months, I'm already intelligent enough to form these variety of words. So let's go back to see my flashback after I was released from the hospital and redirected to an orphanage.
