Chapter 24 - Intellect vs Instinct [3]

{Date: 10/13 - Thursday}

{Time: 12:00 PM}

The bell rang signalling the end of the morning classes and the start of the lunch period. Orika and I gathered our things and began to make our way out of the Training Area. The two of us made our way to the cafeteria side by side, maneuvering around the sea of students lingering in the halls.

Finally, we made it to the cafeteria and got our lunches then went outside to the courtyard to spend our lunch period together. We sat at our table, setting our things down and began to relax.

"I think I can understand how you feel after a battle..~ My body is still a little sore," Orika giggled, rubbing her arm, glancing at me with a sweet smile.

I gently rubbed her back, sliding closer to her and let out a soft chuckle. "Here, let me pamper you then..~"

{Orika's Mood: Flustered}

Orika blushed at the thought of being pampered, watching as I picked up her spoon and scooped up a bit of rice. "Y-You don't have to...I can still move my arms! S-See?" Orika exclaimed, holding up her arms and gave me an shy smile.

I giggled softly at her, bringing the spoon to her mouth. "Calm down...and just say 'ahhh'..~"

Orika's heart skipped multiple beats at my soothing tone, my voice as sweet as honey to her ears. She closed her eyes, slowly opening her mouth. Gently, I placed the spoon upon her tongue, feeding her some of her food.

"See? That wasn't that hard now was it?" I teased, setting her spoon down and watched her chew.

Orika blushed even more, narrowing her gaze and swallowed her food. She could help but to feel warm and tingly inside, her heart racing like a horse in the grand finals. "Thank you..."

"Mhm..~ Now, shall I keep pampering you or are you fine on your own?" I asked, noticing the light in her eyes sparkling.

"Uhm...you can keep pampering me. I do want to conserve energy," Orika said, her tone shy and gentle just like when we first met.

"Conserve? Yeah, right," I said, a soft light escaping from me as I began to get comfortable beside her.

{Bond with Orika skyrocketed!}

{Orika feels truly at ease...}

Once I noticed the second notification, I quickly glanced at Orika, sensing how calm her energy was and how peaceful she seemed around me like a gentle snowflake floating along a gentle breeze. I couldn't help but to smile at her, enjoying the fact that she loved being around me.

The two of us continued to enjoy our lunch period together, making small talk with one another and predicting who our C Rank Professor would be once we become C Ranks. Despite Leilani's threat this morning, everything seemed relatively peaceful.

Suddenly, someone bumped into Orika, causing her to fall face first into her tray, her fork falling on the floor. The familiar sights of the scene caused me to immediately know what was behind it. I turned around in my seat, noticing Usagi, Arei, and Leilani.

"Oops..~ Clumsy me, I guess I didn't see her," Arei sneered, shrugging her shoulders and flashing an arrogant grin at us. "As always, we can't sense weaklings..."

I glared at her, standing up from my seat and stepped toward them. Usagi gently held Arei back, stepping toward me with a smirk on her face. The tension in the courtyard was extremely high, the students around us murmuring at the commotion.

Leilani stepped forward, gently placing her hand on Usagi's shoulder, pulling her back. "Someone's feeling a bit more tough now. I didn't forget what happened this morning. We still have unfinished business," Leilani said, shoving me back.

A few onlookers reacted with soft "ooohs" as they watched me stumble back from Leilani's shove. Like this morning, the students of the courtyard began to clear the area for us, excited to see the fight.

Orika cleaned her face, noticing me and Leilani standing off then stood up from her seat. She began to retreat to safe area, watching as the digital walls shimmered to life. "Hisumi!"

{Test Your Spirit!}

{Battlefield: St. Fraskia Academy - Courtyard}

{Opponent: Leilani Moji - C Rank}

I heard Orika call out to me, glancing back and gave her a soft smile. I turned back toward Leilani, putting my hair in a ponytail then placed my hands in my pockets. "So how are we doing this? Who's it going to be?"

"Me, obviously...now get ready, Judgement Scum! In the name of my father, the High Tribal Leader, Shiro Moji, and for the honor of my tribe, the Mojisola Tribe..." Leilani began, kneeling down and praying to her deities. "I will defeat you... Maluhia!"

Leilani stood up, letting out her Tribal Howl and her battlesuit and tribal tattoos began glowing brightly. The silver tones of her hair began to glow, her Spirit Energy pulsing around her body in hues of silver and blue.

My eyes widened as I felt her power level surge, her energy creating intense pressure and radiating a bit of heat around the arena. 'What the hell is going on..?!'

Leilani's aura finally calmed down, flowing peacefully around her body. She opened her eyes, both eyes glowing a beautiful silver color. "What you're seeing now is my Burst Mode...One of three. Say hello to my Tengoku Form!"

I stared at her, not knowing how to properly counter this new level of power from Leilani. 'Tengoku Form? What could be different from her Tengoku Mode..?'

Leilani smirked at me, her focus locked upon me like a hawk. Suddenly, she appeared in front of me, landing on her feet gently and placed her hand upon my shoulder. My mind hadn't even registered that she was in front of me until she placed her hand upon my shoulder.

To me, it just seemed like she flickered in and out of existence, appearing in front of me like a phantom. I looked at her, my gaze meeting her primal silver eyes, a look that caused me to slightly shrink down. Her gaze was so intense, yet her presence was so calm.

"Honorary B Rank, that's your title amongst the B and A Ranks right? We're about to see what makes you more special than me," Leilani said, smirking wildly at me.

Before I could react, Leilani struck my stomach with her knee, sending a pulse of energy around my body. I coughed a bit of blood as I was sent flying across the courtyard, slamming into the shimmering digital wall behind me.

"Hisumi!" Genesis called out, flying toward me at high speeds and hovered in front of me, holding my cheeks. "Mistress, are you okay?"

Orika couldn't even say a word, her entire body trembling with fear from Leilani's powerful presence. All she could do was cover her mouth and stared at me in disbelief. 'No way...'

"Oooh! That's gonna leave a mark! Leilani's serious about this battle!" One student exclaimed, cheering for the battle.

"She's not the leader of New Karma for nothing... She's also the daughter of Shiro Moji and Ani Moji. She's a prodigy," Anotber student said, admiring Leilani as she watched the fight.

I grunted softly, clutching my stomach tightly and getting up upon one knee. I glanced up at Leilani, my vision slightly impaired and wobbly from the pain. I spit out any lingering blood in my mouth then wiped my lip, standing on my feet slowly.

'Damn...that attack hurt badly. That speed, that power...and it wasn't that her strike was extremely powerful. That was a deliberate strike upon my energy point. She's landing Critical Strikes plus Burst DMG,' I thought, grunting softly from the pain of the strike and staggered a bit.

Leilani smirked at my damaged form, adjusting her gauntlets then lowered her arms. "What's the matter..? Suddenly can't keep up anymore huh? Well I could've done a lot worse, y'know."

'Hmph...so her Tengoku Form boosts her speed and attack capabilities. Let's see how much more reactive she is,' I thought, focusing in on Leilani and got into my stance.

"Hisumi...are you sure you want to do this?" Genesis asked via telepathy, glancing at me with a worried expression.

'My instincts are telling me no...but there's no escape right now. So I'm not listening to my Heart. I'm going to listen to my Mind and Spirit, and charge in,' I replied to Genesis, telepathically, my gaze never leaving Leilani's.

I got into my stance, bracing myself for the charge ahead then launched forward, sprinting toward her her at high speeds. Leilani watched me approach her, a smirk playing on her face as she crossed her arms. I let out a bellow, launching a spinning heel kick, but my attack was blocked by an invisible force field.

'What..?' I thought to myself, jumping back then got back into my stance, noticing silver feathers fluttering to the ground.

"In D Rank, we learn that everyone's Soul Blast is different. Well, here's mine," Leilani said, snapping her fingers.

The silver feathers began to glow, flying toward me at high speeds. I grunted softly, my body instinctively avoiding the feathers out of fear. I glanced back, watching them stick onto a few seats and explode upon contact.

"Hisumi, incoming!" Genesis called out, pointing at another volley of energy feathers flying toward me.

I grunted heavily, evading each projectile with caution then used a bolt of lightning to summon my katana. I began deflecting the feathers, sending each one flying across the arena with swift slices. Multiple explosions set off within the arena, causing the onlookers to cheer and chant.

I looked forward, a cold sweat slowly rolling down my cheek. 'What exactly am I dealing with..? Automatic Defenses..? Something isn't adding up here, she has so many abilities to look out for...what am I to do..?'

Orika felt her heart pounding against her chest, feeling the exact confusion and pain I was feeling spiritually. She didn't know how to react at this moment, the cheers around her deafening her own thoughts.

"Don't even bother trying to hatch up any schemes in your head, loser. You've finally met your match and right now, I'm not seeing anything that makes you worthy of the name Honorary," Leilani taunted, pacing back and forth with a smirk on her face.

"You know, we know the big secret. Your mother is the Headmistress of the Academy, so yeah it's fair that Mommy hands you power. My mother handed me power as well, but I didn't take it because I wanted to grind for it on my own!" Leilani continued, glaring at me as she paced back and forth.

I stopped my inner thoughts to listen to what Leilani had to say, hearing my mother being brought into the topic. I watched as Leilani paced back and forth, my gaze becoming cerebral and intense.

"You...you're different. You jump at the first opportunity to take power, to take the titles, to take everything from the hand that feeds you...just to dispose of them when you don't need them anymore," Leilani said, stopping in her tracks and noticed my more serious and cold gaze.

"That's what you do at Judgement isn't it...or rather what you did? And based by the way you are looking at me, the same happened to you, didn't it?" Leilani asked, basking in the fact that she's getting under my skin.

I didn't answer her at all, only giving her a cold, stoic gaze. I closed my eyes, knowing everything she said was true. She didn't say anything wrong, yet I was still determined to prove myself to everyone but at this moment, it didn't care about the victory. I only cared about beating Leilani, destroying her.

"She's silent, you hit all the right marks!" Usagi called out to Leilani, hitting her hand against the table.

"Yeah! Tell her!" Arei laughed, watching the fight with glee.

I opened my eyes, my eyes emitting aura in gradiants of blue and yellow. I met Leilani's gaze, my Spirit Energy flowing around my body then my Marking Vow upon my shoulder began to pulse with energy.

"Everything you say is correct...sure, I used people while in Judgement, I've killed people, taken everything from others and tossed them aside after. Yes, they did the same to me in the end..." I began, lightning crackling around my body powerfully.

A few students began to whisper amongst themselves, feeling an increase in my energy. Orika's eyes began to light up, not having ever seen this form of power from me before.

Leilani's body instinctively tensed, warning her about something. She looked at her arm, noticing small spasms in her muscles and goosebumps crawling upon her entire arm. 'Why am I...scared...?'

"But there's one reason why I am so high in the hierarchy right now. It's because I was the Top Agent in Judgement. What makes me so special is something I hear some of you ask...and I have your answer," I began, awakening my Burst Mode, my spirit energy flowing around me in an untamed and volatile manner.

I flashed Leilani a cold, chilling smirk, my eyes glowing brightly with power. "I am the Top Agent, the Black Cerebral, the Enforcer of Judgement, Hisumi Nomura. That is what makes me Honorary..."

Leilani felt chills all around her body, gazing at me and noticed how emotionless my eyes were when I got serious. 'Her energy...her Burst Mode is overflowing of Fallen Energy. Just who is this chick..?'

Orika couldn't move away from her spot, her gaze stuck on my form. 'This is her true power..? It's so terrifying yet... sheltering to me..'

Leilani braced herself for my oncoming attack, staring at me with an intensity that could make anyone else shake to their core. However, with my emotions suppressed and the Black Cerebral within me awakened, my doubts and fears were suppressed.

I walked forward, vanishing at near invisible speeds. Leilani readied herself, her body instinctively evading my first strike then she began dodging each of my follow up strikes. Even though she had Autonomous Reflexes, her body was still warning her of my strikes.

'This girl strikes with a volatility of my mom, geez...! If I get hit with one of those, I'm cooked,' Leilani thought, jumping back to evade my next attack then awakened pink energy around her hand.

Leilani opened her hand, a sphere of dark pink energy forming in her hand. She fully charged it, a sigil forming within the sphere of energy. "Take this! Lascivious Bomb!"

I watched as she hurled the energy bomb at me, smirking as I just stood still, taking the blast head on. The crowd was shocked at the fact that I didn't even attempt to dodge it, murmuring to themselves about how foolish I was to take one of Leilani's Sigil Bombs.

Leilani watched as the smoke cleared, raising an eyebrow then her eyes slowly widened as she noticed my silhouette within the smoke, unharmed and unphased. 'What..?! She just took my Sigil Bomb?!'

I smirked at Leilani, my eyes darkening as my energy began to flow around me in a dangerous manner. "Was that really the best you had? For the daughter of Shiro Moji, you are a disappointment..." I chuckled, dark blue energy forming around me then began to surge.

{Type CHANGE: Speedster -> Tank}

{DMG UP! 10%}

{Burst DMG UP! 15%}

{Survivability UP! 25%}

{Agility DOWN! 25%}

Leilani's eyes widened at my ability to change my Valkyrie Type, her mind wondering with how I could use such advanced Valkyria Techniques. 'No way...not even I can just change my type..'

"I see you're surprised...well allow me to shed you some light, Moji. As the Black Cerebral, I am molded to handle all situations no matter the role. Usually, I like to get my missions done swiftly which is why I prefer the Speedster Type, but in reality, I can fit all roles if I have to," I explained, giving away my secrets.

"All it takes is a few moments of me just studying you to learn everything about you...you will never truly know what all I'm capable of," I said, my tone low with cold, cerebral confidence.

Leilani felt a sudden shift in the air, her body truly warning her of not my aura, but of me myself. Leilani stared at me, for the first time, her instincts wouldn't let her move. Her body seemed to be frozen, once the primal hunter now the hunted of a smarter, more dangerous prey.

"What's wrong, the cat finally got your tongue? Well at least that makes you shut up about your tribe and your pride. Now that I have your attention, how about we end this?" I asked, a surge of lightning beginning to crackle around my arm.

'Her energy isn't dangerous at all...it's her. She's the dangerous one. I'm stronger than her, yet...I am the one afraid..?' Leilani thought, her breathing subtly becoming heavier.

"Since you won't move, I will!" I bellowed, my Vow of Death shining brightly upon my arm as I lunged forward.

Leilani grunted heavily, watching me approach her at full speed despite being a Tank Type. She tried to move her body, but her fear got the best of her, not knowing how to handle her fear. 'C'mon body..! Move!'

"Hisumi! Stop it!" A voice yelled out, echoing across the courtyard.

I paused my strike just before it connected to Leilani's chest. I looked back, realizing it was Orika's voice calling out to me. Leilani looked over at Orika as well, seeing the fear in her eyes as she watched me act as the Black Cerebral and not as the person I wanted to be.

"I can't watch you like this..! Please...stop it! This isn't you!" Orika cried out, looking at me with her eyes glazed with unshed tears. "They might be bullies but they are still our peers!"

I stared at Orika for a moment then looked at my arm, noticing my Vow of Death glowing on my shoulder. I looked at Leilani, my gaze softening a bit then I grit my teeth, lowering my arm. I reverted to my normal form, turning away from Leilani then walked away.

Leilani finally relaxed, letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She sunk down to her knees, Usagi and Arei running to her aid. The three of them watched as I walked away, Usagi and Arei glaring daggers at me.

The onlookers murmured amongst each other, whispering about how I nearly almost struck down Leilani in cold blood. I kept my head low, walking away from the courtyard with Orika following behind.

{Reputation with St. Fraskia has decreased...}
