Chapter 17 - The enemy

"What's wrong?"

Just as she was puzzled, an eerie voice emerged from nowhere.

"Jehhha...Very alert, very careful, but today, adventurer, your career ends here. This is Mother Earth's arrangement. Accept your pitiful fate, you foolish adventurer..."

The sinister laughter echoed all around, its sound so revolting it sent chills down one's spine, raising goosebumps.

The voice came from all directions, making it impossible to locate its source.

Behind Limon, the little one had quieted down, her gaze coldly scanning the surroundings.

Though she didn't know who the voice belonged to or its true target, appearing here meant the target wasn't the adventurer before her, but herself.

"Adventurer, are you confident? If this exceeds your capabilities, you may leave."

The little one's haughty voice from behind made Limon pause briefly, then he coldly smiled and said expressionlessly, "Stay put quietly. What is there to fear from someone who hides in the shadows?"

"Hehehe... Foolish adventurer, you'll learn the consequences of provoking me. Well then, let me see where this confidence of yours comes from. Come forth, Envoy of Earth, King of Wrathful Roars, Apostle of Darkness..."

The ground trembled. Right at the seaside, before their eyes, the earth split open.

With a thunderous rumble, a massive stone giant crawled out from underground. It stood four meters tall, its body dark gray, pupils blood red, emanating an aura of violence.

"It's a Stone Golem, a corrupted earth elemental spirit. Be careful, adventurer."

The little one's warning voice rose from behind.

Limon's expression grew serious as he vigilantly watched the imposing Stone Golem.

Level 42...

This was the first monster Limon had seen with attributes exceeding 100.

"ROAR!"

The massive Stone Golem opened its hollow mouth and released a howling roar. It began to move.

With each giant step toward them, the ground seemed to shake. Its presence was terrifying.

Limon sensed dark magic surging within it.

This was a sign of spellcasting...

With no time to think, Limon stepped forward, frantically channeling mana into his staff.

At the staff's tip, dark and evil power surged and concentrated frantically.

A powerful gale suddenly appeared around Limon, forming a vortex with his staff at its center.

"Dark Energy Impact..."

He violently swung his staff.

"Crack!"

The staff shattered, and a massive surge of black mana erupted like a giant black flame, howling toward the Stone Golem.

"BOOM!"

Almost instantly, the black flames struck the Stone Golem's head.

A tremendous explosion rang out as towering green flames erupted, powerful shockwaves sweeping through the surroundings.

"Ah..."

Even behind Limon, the little one's headscarf was blown away by the strong wind, revealing her pink hair.

She adorably covered her head, quickly stepping forward to hide behind Limon.

"THUD!"

Within the towering green flames, a massive figure appeared. The Stone Golem's headless body toppled over, crashing heavily onto the beach.

The strike's power was terrifying, with winds reaching a hundred meters away, stirring countless leaves at the forest's edge.

"Impossible, this is impossible, such evil power... Hehehe, adventurer, you've won this time, but we shall meet again, certainly, I have this premonition..."

The voice faded away. Had he left?

He must have...

After vigilantly surveying the surroundings and confirming the enemy's departure, Limon finally breathed a deep sigh of relief.

That was a level 42 monster. Though successfully eliminated, the cost wasn't small.

Feeling his completely depleted mana, Limon showed a bitter smile.

"Oh..."

The feeling of mana exhaustion lasted only a moment. The next instant, his lost mana returned.

Leveled up?

With such a dramatic change, this was the only possibility.

Four levels at once...

What a windfall. Limon hadn't expected a level 42 Stone Golem to provide so much experience.

He never imagined his desperate strike would succeed so well.

Limon felt truly blessed by the goddess of fortune.

Was a level 42 monster strong?

Of course it was strong, at least far beyond Limon's current reach.

Limon knew well that neither summoning demons nor any other methods could effectively destroy the Stone Golem.

He had only one choice: use all his mana for a full power Dark Energy Impact.

Limon hadn't expected Dark Energy Impact to kill the Stone Golem in one hit. He had only hoped to inflict some damage and then flee with the little one. Yet surprisingly, his full power Dark Energy Impact had effortlessly destroyed the Stone Golem.

How was this possible?

A level 42 monster shouldn't be this weak.

"I didn't expect you to be this strong, actually destroying the Stone Golem in one hit."

Behind Limon, the little one poked out her head, looking in surprise at the Stone Golem lying on the beach.

She had witnessed that incredible strike with her own eyes, never expecting this person to be so powerful.

With the little one in tow, Limon approached the Stone Golem.

Looking at the headless Stone Golem, Limon was thoroughly puzzled.

That strike's power had been excessive. The towering flames, the powerful winds even using all his mana, Dark Energy Impact shouldn't have been that powerful.
