Chereads / Starting as a Demon Warlock to Become a Lord / Chapter 2 - Monastery of the Holy Cross

Chapter 2 - Monastery of the Holy Cross

Limon thought of Meloka City when reflecting on his place of origin.

If the letter of entrustment was his, Meloka City ought to be the hometown of this body.

With this in mind, Limon replied, "If my memory serves me right, I should be from Meloka City."

Smiling faintly, Rhine regarded Limon beside him and said, "Lord Limon doesn't recall anything, so I'll refrain from these extraneous remarks. Lord Limon is a new adventurer. To survive in this city, you must visit the Adventurer's Guild. Only by registering as an adventurer can Lord Limon accept commissioned tasks in Arizela City and earn a living."

"Arizela City is a trading hub situated at the southern tip of the Avenir Continent. Here, money is everything. With Lord Limon's capabilities, survival in this city should be a relatively straightforward matter."

Straightforward matter?

Limon lacked confidence in this regard. Integrating into an alien world and an unfamiliar human society was no easy feat.

However, Limon remembered the panel that could be summoned at will.

According to the panel's information, he should possess certain unique abilities.

Demon Warlock...

should be a profession akin to the traditional wizard and the priest Rhine had aspired to.

Unbeknownst to them, the two left the meditation area and entered the prayer hall.

Upon entering the prayer hall, Rhine fell silent and proceeded along the corridor on one side.

This monastery was rather magnificent, especially the prayer hall, which was exquisitely adorned. Not only were there elaborate murals on the walls, but the dome above the hall was also remarkable, exuding a potent religious aura.

It was just that there were few people. Only a handful of individuals were in the prayer hall, all of them monks like Rhine.

With a hushed gait, the two traversed the prayer hall.

By this time, the monastery's gate was in sight. Before approaching, Limon detected a din.

It was clamorous, the chaotic clamor of a large throng.

When he reached the monastery gate with Rhine, Limon realized he had underestimated this world.

Although there were no skyscrapers or bustling traffic in view, the peculiarly shaped edifices seemed refined and imposing, especially the lofty and magnificent structure in the distance, which was even more conspicuous.

The sun was high in the sky, and the sunlight bathing his body made Limon sense a degree of heat.

Standing before the monastery, Limon regarded the pedestrians on the street with a curious gaze.

What intrigued Limon were not the humans but some non-human entities.

Among the pedestrians, Limon could spot ordinary humans and some strange beings.

These strange beings had animal ears, and upon looking back, one could see a tail. Among them were civilians, as well as professionals clad in leather, or wearing robes, brandishing weapons, and donning wizard hats.

Among the pedestrians, Limon also beheld some even stranger creatures.

They were diminutive, less than a meter tall, with pointed ears. Due to their short stature, they gave an impression of chubbiness, not overly so, but the kind of baby fat that made them seem a tad... cute.

Limon discovered that among the street pedestrians, the number of non-humans was nearly equal to that of humans, with four or five out of ten being non-humans.

"Did you see that palace? The rulers of the Taklama Kingdom are elves, the Lulufil clan. Those charming little beings, don't underestimate them. They have a powerful affinity for magic, whether it's a faith-based or arcane system, they can master it with ease."

Rhine's voice in his ear made Limon look up at the palace.

Elves?

This brought to mind those endearing little creatures on the street, which must be them.

In any world or novel, humans often seem a rather ordinary race, while some non-humans frequently possess extraordinary talents and far higher ability values than humans.

In this world, humans also appear to be rather mediocre.

Why did Limon think so? Because Rhine beside him was a good reference.

Rhine was no longer young, yet at this age he was still a priest apprentice, and his talent could be surmised...

At this moment, Rhine spoke again, "The Adventurer's Guild is at the end of this street. It has a large sign. Lord Limon should be able to locate it without difficulty. If Lord Limon encounters any troubles, you can come to the Holy Cross Monastery to seek me."

Is he a benevolent person?

Regarding Rhine thoughtfully, Limon nodded slightly.

Rhine was quite amiable, and ordinary people would likely be glad to interact with him.

But Limon was not an ordinary individual. He wouldn't let his guard down merely because of a few comforting words.

Limon was ignorant of the Holy Cross Monastery's doctrine and the nature of its existence, but he wouldn't deny Rhine's kindness.

Afterward, Limon parted ways with Rhine.

Rhine was a monk in the monastery with his own affairs, and Limon also had his own objectives.

He needed to better understand this world, and the Adventurer's Guild was undoubtedly an excellent avenue.

Walking through the bustling streets, Limon sensed the essence of this other world.

Strange beings, unfamiliar bird-riding beasts, and peculiar beast-drawn carts ambling along the streets, everything before Limon was so novel and strange. The distinct human society kindled Limon's interest in adventure, and he was filled with anticipation.

Rhine was correct. The Adventurer's Guild was not far from the Holy Cross Monastery. It was at the end of the street, approximately two miles in visual distance.

At a crossroads, on one side of the square, Limon espied the Adventurer's Guild.

It was truly sizable and stood out prominently among the surrounding structures. There were several large signs of the Adventurer's Guild.

Without hesitation, Limon entered the Adventurer's Guild.

Once through the entrance, the blazing sun vanished, and the "din" in his ears diminished considerably.

This was a lounge with numerous tables and chairs in the hall. On the tables and chairs, one could observe some figures congregated in small groups. They were attired peculiarly and engaged in conversation and laughter.

There weren't many people in the rest area. At a glance, there were just over ten.

Without pausing, Limon approached a counter.

The Adventurer's Guild bore a resemblance to the bar in Limon's memory, even the counter was quite similar.

Behind the counter, Limon spied a small figure from a distance.

Just like the small beings seen on the street, it should be the elf Rhine mentioned.

She noticed Limon...
