Chapter 1 - Dive In

Sunlight spilled into the bedroom of a small, messy room of an apartment through the windows, illuminating the bed on which a bundle of covers lay outlining the shape of a human.

*Ring**Ring*

From underneath the covers stretched a hand, seemingly searching for the source of sudden noise.

"What the hell?" Not finding his phone, he moved out of the covers feeling irritated.

This was Kade Rivers. On any other day, Kade wouldn't have set an alarm but today was different. Today was the day his 3 years of part-time jobs pay off.

Kade moved his blue irises across the room and spotted his still ringing phone on a cloth pile in the corner.

'I really need to clean my room, don't I?' he thought to himself, stood up from the bed and walked towards the phone to shut off the alarm.

Kade entered his bathroom to prepare for the day. He stood at 6'2 (188 cm), his body– although not too muscular was not skinny either. He looked like someone who worked out once in a while. He also had short black hair on his head, coupled with his blue eyes you could say he's handsome.

Kade quickly finished his shower, dressed up and moved to his fridge for breakfast.

'Since there's still a couple of hours befor they deliver it, I'll try to clean up and make room for it' he decided and stood up to start cleaning, after drinking some milk and a leftover microwaved pizza.

Now you might be wondering what's Kade expecting that could make him get up so early. Well before that, let's know a bit more about Kade.

It was currently the year 2085 and every sports known to man has been moved to the virtual world. No, not normal VR headsets and games you're used to—but full dive VR experience.

You genuinely experienced the game and feel every touch and movement you make. The games were moved to virtual reality because it reduces/ straight up eliminates the possibility of injuries.

Therefore popular sports like Soccer, Basketball, Boxing and even MMA is played in a virtual world.

Kade Rivers grew up loving combat sports. He would pester his dad every week to take him to a VR arcade just so he could spectate matches of his favorite fighter.

Even after he lost both his parents in a car crash at the age of 16, combat games was the only thing keeping him going.

His parents always supported his dream of becoming a professional fighter. They enrolled him in various MMA training programs when he asked, join him in watching the VFA fights even though they do not enjoy it much and they would usually buy him figurines and signed gloves of his favorite fighters.

For his 16th birthday, they promised him a VR Full dive capsule and he was ecstatic. But instead of receiving his capsule, he received news of their death.

According to what he knows, his mom was an orphan and his dad's family disowned him for marrying her, so after their deaths no family member showed up to take care of him.

Kade had to learn to live as an adult at age 16, he had to drop out and work job after job since his parents' savings couldn't last forever. He also moved to this small apartment in order to spend less on rent.

He was determined to achieve his dreams and make his parents proud of him.

*Knock**knock*

He was finished cleaning when he heard a knock. Looking at the time on his phone, he couldn't help but feel excited. The path to achieving his dreams was finally here.

He rushed to the door and opened it in record time. The delivery man's hand was in the air to deliver the third knock before he opened.

"Are you Kade Rivers?" The delivery man asked, putting his hand down.

"Yes" Kade replied, trying to force his excitement down.

"Great" he said, handing him a tablet "just sign here, I'll have the men bring it up and help set it up".

Kade took the tablet from him, signed it in a hurry and handed it back to him.

----

A few moments later, three men came up. Two of them were holding a large crate, the third man was in a suit.

Kade made way for the men to enter. Although he was embarrassed because of the size of his room, hw was glad he decided to clean up.

The men put down the crate and started setting up, while the man in suit approached Kade.

"Mr. Rivers, it's nice to meet you. I'm Christian from Virtual Strike" He introduced himself and held out his hand for Kade to shake.

"It's nice to meet you too Mr Christian" Kade replied, shaking Christian's hand.

"Here" Christian took out an ID from his pocket and handed it to Kade "this is your fighters license. It would allow you to take part in professional matches if you wish to"

'I see, so that's why the website was asking for so much details and even an image ' Kade thought.

"Thank you very much Christian" Kade took the License from Christian.

"No need for thanks Mr. Rivers, It's our responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction" Christian said with a smile.

By then, the men were done setting up the capsule and there was hardly any room left to move around but Kade didn't mind.

Christian moved towards the capsule, pressed a few buttons and then returned.

"The setup's done Mr Rivers, your License is already uploaded and you can virtually access it anytime. Thank you for your purchase and happy gaming " Christian said and left with the two men.

Kade close the door after thanking them and quickly moved to his room to try out the capsule.

Kade was already used to logging into VR so he didn't need to go through the manual again. He just took off his clothes, save for his boxers, and lay down in the capsule.

He took a moment to get comfortable before pressing the power button. His body went unconscious but his mind was sent into the the virtual world.

Kade could only see white as far as his eyes could reach. He noticed that he could feel the coldness of the floor in this white room, and even the wind brushing against his skin making him wonder if there was a window around.

Before he could start wandering around, a text box popped up in front of him. This surprised him a little but he already knew this would happen so he didn't freak out.
