CHAPTER 5: A Lifetime Opportunity
Laura POV
I stared at the two of them and the foolish me tried thinking maybe that was a smirk on their face.
"She looks like someone wretched, so it's easy to tell that she's homeless," Ariana said, making me wonder if she was the same person who was smiling at me a few minutes earlier.
Do people change in minutes?? I wondered but then decided to give an answer to what seems like their curiosity.
"I'm.....I'm truly homeless," I said in a stutter after dropping the spoon gently back into the plate.
"I knew it," The demi-god muttered.
"What do you say about a roof over your head?" The demi-god asked, and I gulped down nothing.
"He can make you more richer than you could ever imagine" Arianna added.
He will make me rich?? In what way, right! I marveled at the mansion when I entered, the mansion can buy the whole of my stepdad's entire buildings but he will make me rich?? I might be naive, but right now, I think they need something from me; they were nice to me earlier to make me feel comfortable with them for a moment, but right now, I know they want something from me, and with the look on their faces? They will surely get it from me.
It made me shudder in fear; the meal that was mouth-watering when I first saw it ended up looking like poison to me.
I braced myself up so as not to look like a fool in front of these people.
"Make me rich??" I said and scoffed trying to act tough.
"You want something from me right??" I added staring at them.
Ariana smiled, then grabbed a seat in front of me, and I turned my gaze to her only; it looked like she was ready to do the talking.
"Bingo! you are right; we need something from you, but I hate smart girls, so don't act like you know everything when you barely know anything," She said.
She started with a smile but ended it with a smirk. She's a pro at changing faces.
"Be my wife" The demi-god said. I would have chuckled if he said it as a joke but his face was dead serious.
"What??" I yelled.
"All you need to do is put your signature on a paper and earn a billion dollars," The demi-god added.
I couldn't help but yell again."What the hell????" I yelled but then realised I acted like a fool just now, I just yelled because of the money.
"A billion dollars should do; if you want more, you can name the price," The demi-god added.
Did he just say a billion dollars?? Come on say you will do it!! My subconscious yelled, and I shook my head, trying to focus.
I tried to get the damn subconscious thinking out of my head in the meantime.
"Are you joking right now??" I asked the demi-god and I was glad I didn't stutter.
"I don't make jokes, Miss Laura; I do business; if you want to sign the contract right now, I can get the papers ready, and get the half payment into your account right away" The demi-god said again, and Ariana just stared at me with a smile.
The smile seemed so deceitful that I couldn't help but shake my head again.
I know what he needs me to do, be his contract wife! I thought I only read that in books, but it's happening to me right now; I'm trapped in a contract-like situation.
A billion dollars?? And somewhere to live?? Those are the things I need right now but I would be getting married to someone I don't know?? Someone I only met today?? Someone who kidnapped me??
Right! He looks rich, that is if this house is his; billionaires like him always own big companies, but I don't know what he does; from our one-day experience, he doesn't look nice.
What about his past?? I know nothing about it, and I will be made to live with him??
"Uhm.....why should it be me??" I asked the two hoping one of them would answer me.
"Because you are the unfortunate one who let the real bride get away!" Ariana said with her voice sounding cold.
Real bride?? Does he have a real bride?? This thing is getting complicated really!!
"A bride??" I asked directing the question to the demi-god.
"She's spewing nonsense; there's no bride, just someone who got away because of you," He said.
It made my memory flicker back to yesterday's evening. They were right, I saw the girl, the girl who said a few words to me making me run like I was truly being chased, but it got me caught in a trap, one meant for her.
"The contract period is two years," Ariana said, making my eyes widen.
"Two years?? Live with the demi-god for two years??" I blurted out, only to realize I had called him a demi-god.
"Oh gosh!!" I muttered facepalming myself.
"Demi-god??" Ariana asked and chuckled while the demi-god's face was blank and expressionless.
"Can I use the restroom please..." I pleaded, my face red from embarrassment. Ariana called one of the maids to direct me.
"Don't get lost; the mansion is big," Ariana said, and I sighed. She's having fun teasing me; maybe I should be glad that I learned to keep it all in, all of my anger; I never had the chance to get angry; there was no one to get angry at; they were all-powerful.
I entered the restroom and tried to think for a moment.
Two years?? A billion dollars?? No! I can't do this. I can't be like those miserable women in books.
Contract marriage?? No! I don't want it, what would I call my story then?? The Cold Billionaire's Contract Wife??? That guy is damn cold!! I can feel it.
But he's offering me a lifetime opportunity; I should grab it, right?? Damn, I'm going crazy right now!!
After splashing water on my face, I walked out of the restroom more confident than when I entered.
I had a smile on, I walked to Ariana and the demi-god.
"Demi-god, I have the answer," I said with a smile, not minding the name I had called him again.
