Lightning lit up the room, blinding white searing through the cheap curtains. The sound of glass shattering filled the air as something—or someone—broke through the window.
Before I could respond—or before she could get any closer—a blinding flash of light burst through the apartment. I blinked rapidly, trying to focus as the air buzzed with an electric charge.
The figure standing in the doorway was… not Victoria. My jaw almost dropped.
"What the—" Amelia barely had time to turn before the figure landed in the center of the room, small but radiating danger.
A girl. No, a kid.
She was blonde, maybe five feet tall if you squinted, with twin pigtails and an outfit that screamed, I'm a lightning bolt personified. Yellow sneakers, a cropped jacket with a crackling electric design, and matching shorts. Her wide grin split her freckled face as she adjusted a pair of goggles perched on her head.
