"I'm sorry." Amelia battered her eyelashes severally to push back the tears. But that didn't stop them from falling.

"Mom, please don't talk like this." Senator Gregory walked up to her bedside and sat down beside her. "You know Amelia cares so much about you. How can you talk about joining Dad? Don't you love your children anymore? Do you know how that will affect us?"

"It's all your fault, Greg." Nana Shawls turned her anger to her first son. "You are the reason why your daughter is ill-mannered and uncultured."

"Grandma..."

"Get out." Nana Shawls' voice hardened.

"Nana, please. Just hear me out this once."

"What are you going to say? That you're sorry."

"Yes. I'm truly sorry for not taking your calls or checking up on you for the past few days. I'm sorry I divorced Jerry without carrying you along. Even though I was hurt and trying to get rid of my pain, it was selfish of me."
