This is bad. Bad. Very, very-very bad!
His mind was racing at the image that was in front of him, ideas coming to him out of sheer terror and perplexity. Before going through the doors of the Trials, he had not anticipated the reality he was currently in.
W-what do I do?!
With only adrenaline pumping through his body and Mana controlling his heart and breathing, he ran and rolled for cover beneath a small patch of ground where a combat had previously taken place. Cold sweat trickled down his face and back, and his breathing was laboured. He clutched his staff to him as if it were his only chance of survival, and his fingers shook.
Following a huge explosion, distant cries of agony were heard from a man and a woman. For him, was this the end? Had that one time ruined all the practice he had done with his mother? It was obvious that the circumstances were not ideal for him and that he was not given an opportunity to develop. The young man held his precious staff while he sat there, terrified to death.
No no no no no no no nooo!
The young man was soon enveloped in a deathly silence. It was... Inappropriate? Screams and cries erupted from right to left just before the explosion, and then everything abruptly stopped. His ears were functioning properly, and his mind checked to make sure they weren't broken. It could hear his heartbeat, which was loud and rapid. His back, however, ached from the quiet.
Suddenly——.
H-huh? His mind startled, his eyes working hard to find the thing that just fell in front of him. With a blurry vision, his eyes made it's way from looking at the brown grown to suddenly painted with a dark red color.
"?!"
Continuing, from the red ground and then to a small white bulge protruding from an arm——.
"Aghhhh!! Aaaaaaaaaaghhh!!"
The young man—Vertisis Silver—screamed out his lungs.
