Kai Takashi was sitting in his classroom, zoning out as his math teacher droned on about something that sounded suspiciously like torture in the form of equations. He had one goal in mind: survive until the final bell. Then, it'd be video games, instant noodles, and sweet freedom. Just a few more minutes, he thought.
That's when things got… weird.
The classroom suddenly went silent. Not the peaceful kind, like everyone finally decided to shut up, but the eerie kind, where it felt like something really bad was about to happen. A strange, glowing symbol started forming under their desks, spreading until it covered the entire room.
Kai's hand shot up. "Uh, teacher? I think we've got a… I don't know… magic circle problem or something?"
But before anyone could even react, the circle flared bright, and in a flash, he was ripped out of his seat and into… well, somewhere that definitely wasn't his classroom.
Kai blinked, squinting as his eyes adjusted. He wasn't in his school anymore. Heck, he wasn't even in Tokyo anymore. Around him stretched a shimmering bridge made of stars, with constellations swirling above like they were part of some celestial light show.
"Oh, great. I've officially lost it," Kai muttered, looking around. His classmates were there too, huddled together, all looking just as confused as he felt.
Before anyone could start panicking, a bright light descended from above, and out of it stepped an angel. Like, a real one. Glowing wings, golden halo, the whole works.
"Greetings, chosen heroes!" the angel announced. "You have been summoned here to fulfill your destiny in the kingdom of Aldoria!"
Kai raised an eyebrow. "Uh, excuse me—"
But before he could finish, his classmates had already started moving forward, eyes wide with excitement. Kai, of course, managed to get shoved back and lost in the crowd, and before he knew it, they'd all followed the angel and… left him. Standing there. Alone.
"Oh, sure. Just leave me behind. Typical," he mumbled.
He looked around at the empty expanse. "Hello? Anybody out there?" he yelled, but his voice just echoed back to him. Frustrated, Kai threw his hands up in the air. "Great, stuck in some celestial wasteland. Can it get any worse?"
It could.
Suddenly, a soft glow appeared a few feet away. A figure began to form, cloaked in light, looking like she'd just woken up from a thousand-year nap. She had long, flowing robes, a very annoyed expression, and—oh. She was floating. Like, majestically.
"Who dares to disturb my slumber?" she asked, rubbing her eyes as though she was trying to shake off a particularly deep sleep. Her voice was powerful, almost like a rumble, but sleepy. Really sleepy.
"Finally! Someone in charge!" Kai snapped, pointing an accusing finger at her. "Are you the one who dragged us here? If so, I want out!"
The goddess blinked, clearly taken aback. "Excuse me?" she said, sounding half offended, half amused.
Kai crossed his arms. "Yeah, you heard me. You think it's fun dragging random people into star-land or whatever? I've got math homework due tomorrow!"
The goddess' eyebrow twitched. "Math… homework?"
Kai, being Kai, wasn't about to back down. He stepped forward, still ranting. "I don't know what kind of cosmic prank this is, but I want you to send me back right now. And while we're at it, I'd like to file a complaint. This has got to be some kind of kidnapping, right?"
The goddess was not used to being yelled at by mortals. She raised her hand and started to conjure a magical barrier to shut him up, muttering, "Just a little spell to keep the annoying one quiet…"
But Kai, not noticing (or caring), ran forward and swung a punch.
Somehow, his fist went right through her magical shield and landed square on her cheek.
The goddess staggered back, clutching her face. "Ow! Did you just…?"
Kai froze, suddenly realizing he'd just punched a celestial being in the face. He opened his mouth, maybe to apologize, but all that came out was a very unconvincing, "Uh… whoops?"
The goddess glared at him, rubbing her cheek. "Enough! You clearly have no respect for the divine, so I'll make you a deal. One wish—anything you desire—and then you'll leave me alone!"
Kai, still riding the adrenaline high from actually landing a punch on a goddess, blurted out, "Fine! I wish you were my servant or something!"
There was a pause, a flicker of magic, and then a feeling like the universe had just signed a really unfortunate contract. Kai blinked, noticing that the goddess's annoyed expression had turned to horror.
She stared at him, her voice a barely-contained growl. "You… you don't know what you've done, do you?"
Kai gave her an awkward smile, half-expecting the wish not to actually work. "Uh… did I?"
The goddess sighed, sounding exhausted and defeated. "Congratulations. You now have a goddess for a servant. Lucky you."
And with a crackle of magic, they vanished from the starry realm and reappeared in… Kai's messy bedroom.
Kai blinked, looking around. Clothes were scattered everywhere, snack wrappers littered the floor, and his bed was just as unmade as he'd left it. Right in the middle of this teenage disaster zone stood the goddess, her expression a mix of horror and disbelief.
"Where… are we?" she asked, looking around with barely disguised disgust.
Kai shrugged, a smirk creeping onto his face. "Welcome to my crib. It's not much, but, you know, make yourself at home."
The goddess raised an eyebrow. "You… expect me to live here?"
"Guess so, servant." He tried not to laugh, but seeing her standing there, utterly bewildered by the mess, was just too good.
She crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "Fine. But let's get one thing straight: I may be bound to you, but that doesn't mean I'll be taking orders from some… some mortal child."
Kai grinned. "We'll see about that."
And thus began the most unlikely partnership in both mortal and celestial history—a grumpy goddess bound to serve a high school kid, both of them stuck with each other whether they liked it or not.
